Kael’s Doubts
The scene opens in Zerath’s war camp, where preparations for the next assault are underway. Soldiers sharpen their blades, mend their armor, and ready siege ladders. The air buzzes with tension, but amidst the chaos, Kael Drakfyr sits alone in his tent, staring at the black-bladed dagger his brother gave him.
The weight of Zerath’s words echoes in his mind: "Prove your loyalty.”
Kael clenches his fist around the hilt, his knuckles turning white. The shard embedded in his chest pulses faintly, filling him with warmth and dread in equal measure.
“How did it come to this?” he murmurs, his voice barely audible.
His thoughts are interrupted by the sound of footsteps. Commander Varyn, still nursing his injuries from the failed trebuchet raid, steps inside.
“You don’t look ready,” Varyn says, his voice laced with suspicion.
“I’m ready,” Kael replies, standing and sheathing the dagger.
Varyn’s eyes narrow. “Good. Because the next attack depends on you. Don’t make me regret trusting you.”
As Varyn leaves, Kael’s resolve falters. He knows that the next step he takes could determine the fate of not only Frosthold but the entire realm.

The Crow and Dain’s Discovery:
Meanwhile, deep in the forests of Veltharion, The Crow, Dain, and their reluctant ally, Kael’s former companion, Kael himself, edge closer to the ancient ruins marked on the map Seraphine had recovered.
The air grows colder, and the trees seem to loom larger as they venture deeper into the wilderness.
“This place feels… wrong,” Dain says, his hand resting on the hilt of his sword.
The Crow smirks. “Scared of a few trees?”
“It’s not the trees,” Dain mutters.
As they reach the edge of a mist-shrouded ravine, The Crow halts abruptly. “There,” she says, pointing to a faint glow emanating from the other side.
The trio crosses a narrow, crumbling stone bridge, their footsteps echoing in the stillness. On the other side, they find a massive stone archway carved with ancient runes. The glow emanates from the ground beneath it—a shard embedded in the earth, pulsing with ominous light.
“This must be it,” Dain says, stepping closer.
But as he does, the air around them shifts, and a deep, guttural growl echoes through the ravine. A massive shadow moves in the mist, and The Crow draws her dagger.
“We’re not alone,” she whispers.

Frosthold Prepares:
Back at Frosthold, Selyne and Seraphine oversee the final defenses. The inner walls have been reinforced, and traps have been set in the narrow corridors leading deeper into the fortress.
“We’ve done all we can,” Selyne says, her voice heavy with exhaustion. “Now we wait.”
Seraphine places a reassuring hand on her shoulder. “You’ve done more than anyone could have asked. Frosthold still stands because of you.”
Selyne nods but says nothing. Her gaze shifts to the horizon, where the flicker of torches signals the approaching enemy.
As the first rays of dawn break through the clouds, the sound of drums fills the air, announcing Zerath’s next assault.

Kael’s Choice:
The assault begins with a ferocity that surpasses anything Frosthold has faced before. Zerath’s soldiers swarm the walls like ants, their siege ladders and battering rams forcing the defenders into a desperate fight.
Amidst the chaos, Kael leads a small unit of elite soldiers through a hidden tunnel beneath the fortress. His mission is clear: breach Frosthold’s inner sanctum and deliver the shard to Zerath.
As they emerge inside the fortress, Kael hesitates. He sees the faces of Frosthold’s defenders—men and women fighting for their lives, their eyes filled with determination and fear.
“Kael,” one of his soldiers hisses. “What are you waiting for?”
Kael’s hand moves to the shard in his chest, its power surging through him. But instead of feeling stronger, he feels hollow.
“No,” he says, his voice trembling but resolute. “I can’t do this.”
The soldier glares at him. “You’re betraying Zerath?”
Kael nods. “He’s already lost. He just doesn’t know it yet.”
Before the soldier can react, Kael draws the black-bladed dagger and strikes, silencing him.
Kael turns to the rest of the unit. “If any of you want to live, leave now. Tell Zerath I’m dead.”
Some flee, while others attack Kael. He fights them off, his blade flashing in the dim light. By the time the last soldier falls, Kael is bloodied but alive.

A Glimpse of Hope:
The episode ends with Kael emerging onto Frosthold’s battlements, where Selyne and Seraphine are holding the line.
Selyne turns, her eyes widening as she sees Kael. “What are you doing here?”
“Helping,” Kael replies, raising his blade.
The camera pans out to show the chaos of the battlefield, with Frosthold’s defenders rallying as Kael fights alongside them. In the distance, Zerath watches the battle unfold, a flicker of doubt crossing his face as he senses the shard’s betrayal.
The screen fades to black as Kael and Selyne stand shoulder to shoulder, their blades raised against the tide of Zerath’s forces.
