Raiya and the Lost Gods

Raiya and the Lost Gods

Chapter 1: The Forgotten Whisper

Raiya gazed at the endless expanse of stars above her. The night was unusually clear, the constellations seeming to hum with a peculiar energy. The village elder had often spoken of nights like this—nights when the veil between the mortal realm and the divine thinned. Raiya, however, had never put much stock in such tales. Yet tonight, something felt different.

She clutched the small silver pendant her mother had left her. The intricate etching on its surface seemed to shimmer faintly in the moonlight. Raiya had always assumed it was just a family heirloom, but lately, the pendant had begun to pulse with warmth whenever she stared at the sky. She couldn’t shake the feeling that it was trying to tell her something.

“Raiya,” a familiar voice called out, snapping her from her thoughts. It was Taris, her closest friend and the only other person in their tiny village who shared her fascination with the myths of the old gods.

“You’re out here again?” Taris asked, climbing up the hill to join her. His hands were smudged with dirt, no doubt from the day’s harvest.

“I couldn’t sleep,” Raiya admitted, her voice quiet. “There’s something about tonight… it feels… alive.”

Taris tilted his head, following her gaze to the stars. “You and your stars. What is it this time?”

Before she could answer, the pendant grew hot against her skin. Raiya gasped, clutching it instinctively. A soft, melodic voice echoed in her mind, each word vibrating with power.

Raiya, child of the forgotten line, the time has come. Seek Thenos, the god of celestial magic. Only he can restore balance.

Raiya staggered backward, her breath catching in her throat. “Did you hear that?” she whispered.

Taris’s brow furrowed. “Hear what? Raiya, are you okay?”

“The voice,” she insisted, her heart pounding. “It said I have to find Thenos.”

Taris’s expression shifted from concern to intrigue. “Thenos? The god from the old myths? You’re saying he spoke to you?”

“I… I don’t know if it was him,” Raiya stammered. “But something did. It’s connected to this pendant. Look.”

She held out the pendant, its silver surface now glowing faintly with an ethereal light. Taris’s eyes widened.

“That’s not normal,” he murmured, reaching out but stopping short of touching it. “What do we do?”

“We follow it,” Raiya said, her voice steady despite the chaos in her mind. “If this is real, and Thenos is out there, we need to find him.”

Taris hesitated. “Raiya, the stories about the gods… they’re just that. Stories. Even if there was a Thenos, he’s been gone for centuries. No one’s seen a god in generations.”

“And maybe that’s the problem,” Raiya countered. “The voice said balance needs to be restored. What if the gods’ disappearance is why the world is… broken?”

Taris sighed, running a hand through his hair. “You’re serious about this, aren’t you?”

Raiya nodded, determination blazing in her eyes. “I can’t explain it, but I know this is what I’m meant to do.”

Taris shook his head but smiled faintly. “Alright. If you’re going, I’m coming with you. Someone has to keep you out of trouble.”

Relief flooded Raiya, and she clasped his arm gratefully. “Thank you, Taris.”

The pendant’s glow intensified, casting long shadows across the hill. The stars above seemed to shift, aligning into a constellation Raiya had never seen before. The outline was unmistakable: a key.

“I think that’s our first clue,” Raiya said, pointing.

Taris squinted at the sky. “A key. Great. Any idea what it opens?”

Raiya’s lips curved into a small smile. “We’ll find out. But first, we need to find where it’s pointing.”

Together, they descended the hill, the constellation of the key guiding their path. Unbeknownst to them, forces far greater than they could imagine had already taken notice. Their journey to find Thenos, the god of celestial magic, had begun—and the fate of the world rested on their shoulders.
