unspoken truth

The Earth Guardians were gathered in their base, winding down after another busy day of stopping crime across the city. It was a rare moment of peace, and everyone seemed to be in good spirits. Speedstar (Bruce) was joking around with Supernova (Logan), and Bee Girl (Chloe) was working on a new gadget, her drone hovering nearby.

But there was something in the air—something that had been building for a while. Chloe couldn’t deny it any longer. The feelings she had for Bruce had grown into something deeper, something she couldn’t hide. She had tried to focus on her work, tried to ignore the way her heart raced when he smiled at her, but it was impossible. And as she glanced at Bruce now, she knew what she had to do.

“Bruce,” Chloe began softly, her voice hesitant. She placed her tools down, her hands suddenly trembling with the weight of the moment. Bruce looked up, meeting her eyes. His usual grin faded, sensing something serious in her tone.

“Yeah?” Bruce said, his voice gentle. He could feel the tension building between them.

Chloe took a deep breath, stepping closer to him. “Bruce, I... I love you. I’ve loved you for a while now. I can’t pretend it’s just a friendship anymore. It’s more. I love you.”

Bruce’s eyes widened, his heart skipping a beat. His mouth opened as if to say something, but no words came out. The shock was too much to process.

Then, finally, a smile tugged at the corners of his lips. “I love you too, Chloe. I’ve always loved you. I just didn’t know how to say it.”

With those words, the weight lifted from Chloe’s chest, and without thinking, she moved in and kissed him. It was soft, sweet, and full of everything they had both been holding back. When they pulled away, both of them were smiling like they had just won the greatest victory of all.

Bruce looked around at the team, his heart full. “We’re dating now, guys,” he announced, his grin wide.

Chloe laughed, feeling a warmth spread through her chest. “It’s official.”

Supernova, standing nearby, was the first to clap. “About time! You two are perfect for each other.”

Sharpshooter, who had been leaning against the wall, gave a nod of approval, his usual cool demeanor intact. “Good for you, kid.”

But Kane, who had been standing in the back of the room, watching the entire exchange, was stone still. His heart sank with every word. The pain of rejection, the sting of seeing Chloe and Bruce so happy, was almost unbearable. He could feel his chest tighten, a familiar burning sensation rising up in him.

It wasn’t just the fact that Chloe had confessed her love for Bruce; it was the realization that he was the one left behind. He couldn’t be with her. He never would be. The emotions swelled inside him until he felt like he was suffocating.

Unable to look at them any longer, Kane turned and walked out of the room. His wolf form stirred within him, eager to emerge. He needed to escape, to release the anger and hurt.

“Kane?” Chloe called out, concern evident in her voice. But Kane didn’t stop. He didn’t turn around.

“Let him go,” Supernova said quietly, understanding what Kane was feeling. He knew how deeply Kane cared for Chloe, even if he had never voiced it.

Chloe’s heart twisted as she watched Kane leave, but she couldn’t ignore her own feelings. She had made her choice, and she loved Bruce. But seeing Kane hurt like that, it felt like a betrayal she wasn’t sure she could ever fix.

Bruce noticed her conflicted expression and placed a hand on her shoulder. “Hey, we’ll figure this out. Kane will be okay. We just have to be patient.”

But deep down, Chloe wasn’t so sure.

As they prepared for the next battle, Chloe couldn’t shake the image of Kane walking away, his back turned in the midst of her happiness. She knew their team had just fractured in a way that couldn’t be undone.

But for now, they had a villain to stop.

They quickly received intel about their next target—Dr. Havoc, who had returned with a new plan to take over the city. His army of drones was already wreaking havoc, and the Earth Guardians were needed now more than ever.

Kane joined them on the battlefield, his emotions still raw, but he couldn’t back down. As he faced Dr. Havoc and his drones, all he could think about was the pain he had to push aside. But it was harder than ever now. The team was stronger than ever, but Kane couldn’t shake the feeling that something had changed irreparably.

And for him, that change felt like a wound that might never heal.
