Bonds and break

The Earth Guardians' base was unusually quiet. Chloe sat in the lab, meticulously working on new drone-disabling tech to counter their enemies. Her mind, however, was far from the task. The events of the past days—the battles, Kane saving her, and their growing connection—swirled in her thoughts.

Kane entered the lab, his towering figure casting a shadow. He hesitated before stepping closer, his voice soft. “Chloe, are you okay? You’ve been quieter than usual.”

Chloe looked up, her cheeks flushing. “I’m fine,” she replied quickly. But the tension was palpable.

Kane sighed and moved closer, his voice carrying an unusual vulnerability. “I’ve been thinking about… us. About how I feel.”

Chloe’s heart raced as he leaned in, their faces mere inches apart. Just as their lips met in a gentle kiss, the door swung open.

Bruce stood in the doorway, his smirk widening into a grin. “Aww, isn’t this adorable? Our wolf and bee having a moment.”

Chloe instantly pulled back, her face red with embarrassment. “Bruce! Don’t you knock?”

Bruce shrugged. “Didn’t think I’d walk in on this.”

As Bruce left, still laughing, Chloe turned to Kane, her expression conflicted. “Kane, we can’t. I’m 19, and you’re 32. Look at the age gap—it’s not right.”

Kane opened his mouth to protest, but she shook her head, stepping away. “I need time to think. I can’t do this right now.”

Before Kane could respond, alarms blared throughout the base. Dr. Havoc was back, his drones swarming the Earth Guardians’ headquarters. Explosions rocked the building as the team scrambled to respond.

Supernova acted quickly, activating a powerful celestial shield that protected the core of their base. “We need to hold the line!” he shouted, charging toward the battle.

The Earth Guardians engaged in combat, their attacks coordinated but desperate. Speedstar darted through the chaos, taking out drones, but a blaster shot grazed his leg, sending him tumbling to the ground.

“I’m fine!” Speedstar called out, though he winced in pain. Catching sight of Kane’s somber face amid the chaos, Speedstar smirked. “Hey, Kane! Got rejected, huh? Tough luck, big guy!”

Kane’s eyes flashed with anger. His body trembled as the beast within surfaced. With a guttural roar, he transformed into Lycantros. His primal fury erupted as he lunged at Speedstar, pinning him to the ground and slamming him repeatedly. Speedstar’s yells turned to desperate cries for help.

“Kane, stop!” Chloe screamed, rushing to intervene. She activated her stinger and struck Kane in the chest. The venom acted swiftly, forcing his transformation to reverse. Kane collapsed, gasping as he returned to his human form.

Supernova and Bruce carried the unconscious Speedstar to the lab, where Chloe worked frantically to stabilize him. The room was tense as Kane sat in the corner, his head in his hands.

When Chloe finished, she turned to Kane, her voice trembling with emotion. “I hate you for what you did to Speedstar,” she said, her eyes filled with tears.

Kane clenched his fists but forced himself to remain calm. “I… I didn’t mean to. It just happened.”

“No,” Chloe said firmly. “You let your emotions control you, and now someone we care about is fighting for their life.”

Supernova returned moments later. “Dr. Havoc is locked in the dungeon,” he announced, his voice steady despite the turmoil. “But we need to focus on healing this team—physically and emotionally.”

As the Earth Guardians regrouped, the fractures in their bond became painfully clear.
