chapter 6

Bound by Fate

Chapter 6: Love in the Crossfire

The weeks that followed were a strange blend of chaos and calm. While Veer and Kavi grew closer in their partnership, their enemies seemed to grow more desperate. Small skirmishes at the outskirts of Veer’s territory kept him busy, while Kavi worked tirelessly to strengthen the business and their defenses.

Despite the challenges, moments of unexpected tenderness began to creep into their days.

One evening, after a particularly tense meeting with his men, Veer found Kavi on the terrace, sipping tea and staring at the city lights.

“Tough day?” she asked without looking at him.

“You could say that,” he replied, leaning against the railing beside her.

Kavi smirked. “Let me guess—someone questioned your authority, and you threatened to ‘deal with them’ in that dramatic voice of yours?”

Veer chuckled. “Close enough. You seem to know me too well.”

Kavi glanced at him, her expression softening. “I’ve had plenty of practice.”

For a moment, neither of them spoke, the silence comfortable and warm.

“I never thanked you,” Veer said suddenly, his voice quiet.

“For what?” Kavi asked, surprised.

“For standing by me. For putting up with all of this,” he said, gesturing to the sprawling mansion and the complicated world they lived in. “You didn’t have to, but you did.”

Kavi hesitated, her defenses wavering. “Maybe I had no choice at first. But now... it feels like I do.”

Veer turned to her, his eyes filled with something she couldn’t quite name. “And what’s your choice?”

Kavi’s heart raced as she searched for the right words. “I’m still figuring it out,” she admitted.

Veer smiled, his hand brushing hers. “Take your time. I’m not going anywhere.”

The Celebration

A few days later, Rani announced a family dinner to celebrate the Rathores’ recent victory in securing a major deal. Kavi, despite her reluctance, found herself looking forward to the gathering.

The dinner was a lively affair, with laughter and stories filling the grand dining hall. Even Arjun, usually stoic, cracked a rare smile as Rani recounted Veer’s antics as a child.

“And then he tried to fight the neighbor’s dog because it wouldn’t stop barking,” Rani said, laughing.

“I was six!” Veer protested, though his grin betrayed his amusement.

Kavi couldn’t stop laughing, her sides hurting from the sheer absurdity of the story. “I can’t believe I married someone who tried to take on a dog.”

Veer smirked. “Well, I won that fight, didn’t I?”

Rani shook her head. “The dog chased you up a tree for hours, beta.”

The room erupted in laughter, and for a moment, the tension of their lives seemed to melt away.

The Attack

The peace was short-lived. That night, as the family retired to their rooms, an explosion rocked the estate, shattering windows and plunging the mansion into chaos.

Kavi bolted upright in bed, her heart pounding. Veer was already at the door, gun in hand.

“Stay here,” he ordered, his voice firm.

“Not a chance,” Kavi replied, grabbing a flashlight and following him.

The hallway was filled with smoke and shouts as the family and staff scrambled for safety. Veer and Kavi made their way to the main hall, where armed intruders were engaged in a firefight with Veer’s guards.

Kavi’s breath caught as she recognized the leader of the group—it was someone from her father’s past, a rival who had sworn revenge years ago.

“This isn’t just about you,” Kavi said to Veer, her voice steady despite the fear creeping into her chest. “They’re after both of us.”

Veer’s jaw tightened. “Then we fight together.”

Love in the Line of Fire

The battle was intense, but Veer and Kavi moved as a unit, their partnership seamless. When one of the intruders cornered Kavi, Veer was there in an instant, shielding her with his body as bullets whizzed past.

“You okay?” he asked, his voice rough with concern.

Kavi nodded, her grip on the flashlight tightening. “I’m fine. Just don’t get yourself killed, okay?”

“Not a chance,” Veer said with a smirk, pulling her to safety.

By the time the smoke cleared and the intruders were subdued, the mansion was in ruins, but the family was safe.

Veer and Kavi stood in the wreckage of the main hall, their breathing heavy.

“You’re insane,” Kavi said, shaking her head. “But you’re my kind of insane.”

Veer grinned, his hand reaching for hers. “And you’re mine.”

For the first time, neither of them hesitated. As the chaos of the night faded into the background, they leaned into each other, their lips meeting in a kiss that spoke of trust, passion, and an unbreakable bond.
