The morning after the event, the air was thick with residual awkwardness and unspoken thoughts. Lucifer hadn’t slept much, his mind replaying the chaotic scenes of the previous night. His family, friends, and Luna had all converged in a way he hadn’t anticipated, and now he had no choice but to confront the consequences.
He found Luna in the garden, seated on a bench surrounded by the soft glow of the morning sun. Her eyes were fixed on the flowers, but her expression was far away, as though lost in a whirlwind of thoughts.
“Hey,” he said softly, approaching her.
She looked up, her gaze steady. “So, you’re not just a bodyguard,” she said, her voice devoid of accusation but filled with curiosity.
Lucifer ran a hand through his hair, sighing. “No, I’m not. I... didn’t plan for it to go this way.”
“Clearly,” she replied, a small smile tugging at her lips. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
He hesitated. “I didn’t want to overwhelm you. You’ve been through so much, and I thought… I thought it was better if I stayed by your side as someone simple. Someone you could trust.”
Luna studied him for a long moment. “So, the cheerful, clumsy bodyguard was an act?”
“Not entirely,” he admitted. “That’s still me, just… a different version. I didn’t want my name, my family, or my background to complicate things.”
Her gaze softened, but then her brow furrowed slightly. “Who are you really, Lucifer? And why me? Why would someone like you—a second-generation heir—go through so much trouble to protect me?”
Lucifer froze for a moment. He hadn’t expected her to ask so directly. He exhaled slowly, sitting down beside her on the bench. “You deserve the truth.”
Luna watched him closely as he began, his voice quieter than usual. “It started back in college. I saw you on campus one day—this girl who was full of life, running late for a class. You were laughing at yourself while trying to juggle books and coffee. You were… unforgettable.”
Her eyes widened slightly at his words.
“I never worked up the courage to approach you,” he admitted, a faint smile tugging at his lips. “But then one day, you were gone. No one seemed to know where you’d gone or why. It was like you vanished overnight. It haunted me for years.”
Luna’s gaze dropped to her lap, her fingers intertwining nervously.
“When I found out who you were—after the accident—I couldn’t just let it go. I knew I had to see you, to help you. Maybe it was selfish, but I thought… I thought I could make a difference in your life.”
She looked up at him, her voice barely above a whisper. “You knew about my accident? About my… condition?”
Lucifer nodded. “I did. But I didn’t care about any of that. All I cared about was finding you and making sure you were okay.”
Tears welled up in Luna’s eyes as she listened. “Why didn’t you tell me this before?”
“I was scared,” he confessed. “Scared of how you’d react, of losing the chance to be in your life. I thought it was better to stay by your side quietly than risk you pushing me away.”
Luna reached out, placing her hand on his. “Lucifer… thank you. For everything.”
He looked at her, his heart pounding. “You don’t need to thank me, Luna. Just… let me keep being here for you. That’s all I want.”
In that moment, the distance between them felt smaller than ever, their bond stronger than it had ever been.
