Unveiling the Bonds

Lucifer groaned dramatically, throwing his head back as if the weight of the world had been placed on his shoulders. "Apparently, that’s part of the job description now. I thought I was hired to protect you, but it looks like my stand-up routine is what’s really needed."

William chuckled. "At least you’re good at something, Lucifer. We were starting to worry."

"Good at something?" Lucifer raised an eyebrow, giving William a playful shove. "I’m great at everything, including making sure you two stay in line."

Kyle snickered. "Oh, sure. You just keep telling yourself that. You’re also really good at avoiding responsibility, I’ve noticed."

Luna, still amused by their antics, couldn’t help but ask, “Do you guys always gang up on him like this?”

"Absolutely," William replied, grinning. "It’s like our full-time job."

Kyle nodded, leaning against the doorframe. "We’d be bored without it. Plus, it keeps him humble. Trust me, he needs it."

Lucifer rolled his eyes again, but the grin that tugged at his lips was genuine. He was surrounded by the friends he had known for years, and while they never let him forget his clumsy, carefree nature, they also reminded him of the person he used to be—before everything got so complicated.

"You guys are impossible," Lucifer muttered, but there was affection in his tone.

Luna, who had been quiet for a moment, spoke up again, her voice light but with an underlying curiosity. "So, you’ve known each other for how long?"

"Long enough to know that Lucifer is always late," Kyle said with a grin.

"And that he's a walking disaster," William added.

Lucifer's eyes widened in mock offense. "Hey! I’m not that bad."

Luna chuckled softly, shaking her head. “I’m starting to think maybe you are.”

Lucifer leaned back in his chair, a proud smirk spreading across his face. "It’s the charm, Luna. You’ll get used to it."

The laughter continued, and as the evening wore on, Luna found herself feeling lighter. There was something about their easy camaraderie, the way they teased Lucifer and yet had each other's backs, that was infectious. It wasn’t just about the jokes or the antics—it was about the connection they shared, the unspoken bond that made even the most awkward moments feel comfortable.

As the night went on and the teasing finally subsided, the group settled into a quieter rhythm. William and Kyle were still making sly comments, but the mood had shifted. There was a warmth in the room that Luna hadn’t felt in a long time.

After a particularly long round of jokes at Lucifer’s expense, Luna turned to him with a teasing smile. "You know, I think I’m starting to like your friends. I wasn’t sure if I would, but they seem... interesting."

Lucifer shot her a sly grin. "Yeah, they’re a lot more tolerable once you get to know them. Just don’t let them fool you—they can be a bit much at times."

Luna raised an eyebrow. "I’m starting to see that. But... it’s kind of nice to see you with people who don’t take you too seriously."

Lucifer’s smile faltered for a moment. “Yeah... it’s easy to be yourself around them. They don’t judge. Even if I am... well, me.”

Luna didn’t say anything, but her eyes softened as she regarded him. There was something in her gaze that Lucifer couldn’t quite decipher, but it made him feel like maybe, just maybe, she was starting to see him as more than just a bodyguard.

As the night drew to a close, and his friends finally left, Lucifer couldn’t help but feel a sense of contentment that he hadn’t felt in a long time. Luna, despite her quiet nature, was beginning to accept his company, and that felt like a victory to him.

His friends had left with their usual teasing jabs, but there was something different about how they’d interacted with Luna. It wasn’t just the jokes—they seemed to genuinely like her. And in a way, that made him feel like maybe he was doing something right.

"You know," Kyle had said just before leaving, "we’re gonna have to start charging for all the entertainment we bring to this place. It’s like a comedy show every time we show up."

Lucifer had rolled his eyes. "I’m the one paying the price for that. But hey, at least Luna’s laughing."

And that was all that mattered to him.

As the door closed behind them, Lucifer turned to Luna, who was already lost in thought. “So, what do you think? Think you’ll get used to their nonsense?”

Luna looked up, meeting his gaze. "I think I might just. It’s... different. But I like it."

Lucifer grinned, his heart swelling. "Well, get ready for more of it. They’re not going anywhere."

And for the first time since he’d arrived, he felt a warmth in his chest, not just from the humor, but from something deeper. Maybe it was the bond he was starting to form with Luna, or maybe it was the understanding that no matter what, he had friends who would always be there to back him up—and for once, he wasn’t running away from it.

He was staying, and he was going to make sure Luna knew she wasn’t alone anymore.
