Growing Closer, Building Trust

Over the next few weeks, Lucifer found himself spending more and more time with Luna. At first, it was just brief exchanges in the house, but soon, he began to take her out for short walks, helping her get some fresh air.

One afternoon, as they strolled down a quiet path near her house, Lucifer was making his usual clumsy attempt at humor when Luna suddenly stopped walking. "You don’t act like a typical bodyguard," she said, her tone measured but curious.

Lucifer froze, his heart skipping a beat. “What do you mean by that?” he asked, trying to keep his voice neutral.

She turned to face him, her eyes narrowing slightly. “You’re... different. Most bodyguards are all serious, and you’re, well, not that."

Lucifer forced a smile, his mind racing. Was she onto him? Had she started to notice that he wasn’t really a bodyguard?

"I just try to make it easier for you, you know?" he said casually, giving her his trademark grin. "I figure a little fun can help lighten the mood. Besides, I’m a terrible bodyguard if I don’t make sure you’re at least a little happy."

Luna seemed to consider this for a moment before nodding slowly. "I guess that’s fair."

It wasn’t much, but it was progress. She wasn’t completely dismissing him anymore. In fact, she was actually starting to rely on him a bit more.

Lucifer kept up his efforts, making small gestures to show her that he wasn’t just a guard. He’d fetch her favorite snacks, help her with anything she needed around the house, and even bring her the books she liked. Sometimes, he’d find himself staying longer than he planned, simply talking with her.

His friends, William and Kyle, began to visit more frequently as well. They were always teasing Lucifer about his new role, but it wasn’t just about that. They liked Luna too, and she had begun to appreciate their company. They would all laugh together, and for the first time in a long while, Luna seemed to open up more and more.

One evening, as they sat around the living room, Kyle made a joke at Lucifer’s expense, causing Luna to chuckle. It wasn’t a loud laugh, but it was enough to make Lucifer’s heart swell with pride.

But as the days passed, Luna’s suspicions began to grow. She noticed that Lucifer’s behavior didn’t match the typical bodyguard persona. He wasn’t serious all the time, and he definitely wasn’t as stiff and formal as the other guards her family had hired.

One day, as they were sitting together, she asked him point-blank, “Why do you act so different? You’re not like the others. Where did they find you?”

Lucifer felt a pang of guilt, but he quickly masked it with a grin. “I guess I’m just not your average guard,” he said lightly. “I don’t like being too serious all the time. But don’t worry—I’ll always have your back, even if I don’t look the part.”

Luna studied him for a long moment, and for a second, Lucifer thought she was going to press him further. But instead, she simply shrugged. “I don’t care. You’re doing fine.”

And with that, the tension between them seemed to ease. Despite her growing suspicions, Luna chose to trust him, and that was all Lucifer needed.
