Lucifer sat in his apartment, his mind racing. The image of Luna in her wheelchair haunted him, a stark reminder of how much her life had changed—and how much he’d failed to be there for her. He couldn’t change the past, but he could protect her now. His resolve strengthened. He needed to be by her side, and the only way to do that was to become her bodyguard.
Before he could take the next step, Lucifer knew he needed help. This wasn’t something he could pull off on his own. Grabbing his phone, he messaged William and Kyle, his two closest friends, to meet him at William’s bar.
“Alright, spill,” Kyle said the moment Lucifer walked in, his usual smirk in place. “What’s got you looking like someone stole your car?”
William nodded, handing him a drink. “You’ve been off since we got back. What happened?”
Lucifer took a deep breath, swirling the amber liquid in his glass. “It’s Luna,” he said, his voice low. “She didn’t recognize me. She’s in a wheelchair.”
Both friends fell silent, the weight of his words sinking in.
“I can’t leave her like this,” Lucifer continued, his tone firm. “I need to stay close to her, and the only way to do that is to become her bodyguard.”
Kyle nearly choked on his drink. “You? A bodyguard? Are we talking about the same Lucifer who tripped over his own feet at my wedding?”
William snorted, shaking his head. “I mean, you’re good in a fight, but do you even know what a bodyguard does?”
Lucifer glared at them, though the corners of his mouth twitched. “Laugh all you want. I’m serious.”
The teasing faded as William leaned forward. “Alright. If this is what you want, we’ll help. But we’re gonna need backup.”
Lucifer nodded. “That’s where my brothers come in.”
Later that night, Lucifer dialed Alex, his eldest brother, who answered on the second ring. “Lucifer. This better be important.”
“Alex, I need a favor,” Lucifer began, pacing his living room.
Alex’s sigh was audible through the phone. “What now? Did you crash another car?”
“No!” Lucifer snapped. “It’s about a girl. Her name’s Luna, and I need to become her bodyguard.”
There was a long pause before Alex responded, his tone incredulous. “You? A bodyguard? Are you serious?”
“Yes,” Lucifer said firmly. “I can’t explain everything right now, but I need your help.”
Before Alex could respond, Alen’s voice cut in. “Did someone say girl? This should be good.”
Lucifer groaned. “Alen, don’t start.”
“Start? I’m just curious about the girl who’s got our reckless little brother playing the knight in shining armor,” Alen teased.
“I’m not reckless,” Lucifer muttered. “And I’m serious about this.”
The twins continued to poke fun, their laughter echoing through the phone. “Let me guess,” Alex said finally. “You’ll owe us for this, right?”
“Whatever you want,” Lucifer promised. “Just help me.”
After a few more jabs and some reluctant agreement, Alex said, “Fine. I’ll pull some strings. But you’d better explain everything later.”
