She knew that Mingi had changed the course of the night because he cared, but the pain of their last fights was still fresh. She couldn’t bear the thought of another argument. Outside, Mingi paced back and forth, trying to decide what to do.
He knew that yelling would never solve anything, that Yunna didn’t need harsh words, but understanding and affection. He took a deep breath and, with determination, knocked softly on the bedroom door.
“Yunna?” he called, his voice low and hesitant. “Please open the door. I don’t want to fight. I just want to talk to you.”
Yunna remained silent, her hands still gripping the doorknob. She wanted to believe that this time would be different, but the fear of getting hurt again kept her from opening it.
“I know I hurt you,” Mingi continued from the other side of the door.
“And I know I yelled at you. That was wrong, and I hate myself for it. But you need to know that I love you, Yunna. I love you more than I can put into words, and I’m willing to do whatever it takes to make it right.”
His words pierced the walls she had built around her heart. Yunna took a deep breath, still unsure, but something inside her whispered that maybe it was time to listen.
With trembling hands, she unlocked the door and opened it slowly, finding Mingi standing there, his eyes full of regret and love.
Mingi sat on the couch in the living room, his head resting on his hands, trying to contain the anger that was pulsing inside him. He knew it was his fault.
The fights, the words he had said without thinking, the frustration he had let out in the wrong way—all of it had created a distance between them. But even knowing this, he couldn’t shake the thought of Yunna with another man. The idea of losing her to Marcos was making him feel out of control, and he felt like he was about to fall apart.
Still, Mingi knew that yelling wouldn’t solve anything. Yunna was emotionally broken, and he had already hurt her too much with his explosiveness. He needed to find a way to fix things, to show her that he was still the man she had fallen in love with.
Later, when the lights in the house went out and Yunna retreated to her room, Mingi stayed in the living room for a while, lost in his thoughts. But he knew that staying still wouldn’t change anything. Taking a deep breath, he walked up the stairs, stopped in front of the bedroom door and knocked softly.
“Yunna, it’s me. May I come in?”
On the other side of the door, Yunna was lying on the bed, her eyes fixed on the ceiling. She hesitated for a moment, but answered in a low voice:
“It’s open.”
Jeon Mingi walked in slowly, closing the door behind him. He looked at Yunna, lying in the darkness, and felt a tightness in his chest. He sat on the edge of the bed, keeping a small distance away, and ran his hands nervously through his hair.
“Yunna…” he began, but his voice failed. He took a deep breath and tried again. “I need to say something, and I hope you’ll listen to me.”
Yunna turned her head to look at him, surprised by the soft tone of his voice. Jeon Mingi held her gaze, determined to open his heart.
“I know I was an idiot. That I hurt you with my words and actions.” I know that, many times, I didn't give you the attention you deserve. And, deep down, I think I always knew it was wrong, but I never had the courage to admit it.
He paused, fighting the emotion that threatened to overflow.
"But today, seeing you with Marcos... seeing how I pushed you away, it was like something inside me broke. I realized that I can't lose you, Yunna. You're the best thing that's ever happened in my life, and I've been acting like I didn't realize it."
Yunna felt her eyes fill with tears, but she remained silent, allowing him to continue.
"I know that apologies aren't enough. I know I need to change, and I'm willing to do it, because I love you. And I'll do whatever it takes to show you that you're important to me, that you're everything to me."
Jeon Mingi lowered his head, feeling the weight of the moment. He waited, afraid that Yunna wouldn't respond. But then he felt her hand touch his, lightly.
“I just want to feel that you care, Mingi,” she said, her voice breaking. “I want to believe in us again, but that has to come from you too.”
He held her hand tightly, looking at her with all the sincerity he had.
“I promise, Yunna. I promise I’ll do it differently.”
They were silent for a moment, but this time it wasn’t a silence of distance. It was a silence of reconnection, of a shy but real beginning of something new.
Jeon Mingi held Yunna’s hand tighter and looked deeply into her eyes, sincerity brimming with every word.
“Yunna, I care about our relationship more than anything in this world. I was a fool, a complete idiot, when I said those things without thinking. I never meant to hurt you.”
Yunna felt the intensity in his gaze, and before she could respond, Jeon Mingi leaned in and kissed her. It was a kiss filled with regret, but also with hope. When he pulled away, just enough to look at her again, he murmured,
“I will make up for everything I’ve done. Everything you’ve been through because of me. I promise I’ll be the man you deserve.”
Yunna shook her head slightly, her eyes shining with tears that threatened to fall.
“I don’t want any rewards, Jeon Mingi. I just want you… I want you to be the man I knew and loved.”
