It had been a short time since her last visit to the orphanage. Yunna had to grow up early, because the orphanage was going to go bankrupt.
In order to avoid hardship, Yunna had to leave. The orphanage where she lived had been taken over by others, and the real owner could no longer afford it, so he passed the orphanage on.
It seemed like a curse; no one could support that orphanage, because the investments were high and the government had cut funding.
But, like a perfect dream, Mr. Jeon, a very famous businessman, decided to take on the expenses.
Some said it was a way of promoting himself to society, and others said he was a good man.
He was like a present father, his relationship with the children in the house was pleasant and he always brought gifts.
Seeing this, Yunna realized that she had missed the best part. For her, Jeon Mingi was an untouchable man. She would have to go back to where she came from and surrender, because she couldn't afford to support herself.
When Yunna left the orphanage, she thought she wouldn't be able to deal with being abandoned again.
She thought: If they go bankrupt, where will I go? I need to rent a house. But things got so difficult that she couldn't live independently. So Yunna went looking for a job and a better home. The young woman just wanted a job, but when she realized it, she was already getting involved with Mingyu, the owner of the orphanage.
It was early and Yunna was already awake. Today, he would return to the house where she grew up sadly. Now that Jeon Mingi had paid off all the debts that the old family had generated, the orphanage was in a very tight spot. You expected him to just ask for your resume, but when you sat in front of the big man, you felt cornered like a poor worker.
"Why did you run away?" he asked. He was holding both of your shoulders firmly. With great joy, you were accepted. But, without realizing it, you became very close to the man.
- Are you running away from me? - Jeon Mingi asked.
- I would never do that, Mr. Jeon.
- You are a good man! - she said.
- It's raining heavily! You better come in!
- We are serving hot chocolate. - she said, pulling you closer.
- Why do you care so much about me? - she asked.
- You are one of the children from my orphanage. - she said, running her hand through your hair.
- I'm not anymore! I left 6 months ago. - she said proudly.
- I only work here!
- After you took over the orphanage, more employees were needed. I soon accepted the position, don't you remember?
- No. - she said, looking at the gate.
After they enjoyed their snack, without Y/n realizing it, she was already sitting in the chair in her boss's office.
- It's funny to know that you like coming here. Our children think it's cool, because you're famous and busy.
Y/n was so innocent. Jeon Mingi was a very busy man, but he was interested.
Mingi died laughing, just thinking that he was there simply because he wanted to.
- I like your brothers. - he said simply.
- They're not my brothers. - It was a simple conversation, but Jeon Mingi was already aware of where it would lead. He was completely in love with Yunna and he needed her.
Yunna never imagined that she would return to the orphanage she once called home, but fate seemed to have other plans. When she met Jeon Mingi, the new person in charge of the place, she didn't know what to expect.
He was cold and serious, with a presence that made even the most confident people hesitate. But there was something in his eyes, something that she couldn't decipher.
What Yunna didn’t know was that from the first moment he saw her, Mingi was fascinated. She was unlike anyone he had ever met before: so naïve, so needy, yet so determined. He knew she had been through so much, that she carried invisible wounds. And that drew him to her more than he cared to admit.
On quiet nights, as the orphanage fell asleep, Mingi would find himself thinking about her. About her soft voice, how her eyes avoided his when she was shy, and how she seemed so vulnerable yet so strong. He wanted to be the one she would trust, the one she would turn to in her darkest moments.
“She needs someone to protect her, someone to guide her,” he thought, as his thoughts grew more and more intense. To Mingi, Yunna was like a delicate flower in the midst of a storm, and he was determined to keep her safe—in his arms.
Whenever he met her in the hallways or in the courtyard, he made a point of approaching her. Even when there was no need, he would find an excuse to talk to her, to watch her cheeks flush under his watchful gaze.
“You look worried,” he commented one late afternoon, as she sat alone in the garden.
Yunna looked up quickly, surprised to see him there. “Oh, it’s nothing… I was just thinking.”
He sat down next to her, keeping a respectable distance, but still close enough for her to smell his woody scent. “Thinking about what?”
She hesitated, her hands fidgeting with the hem of her dress. “About life… about the choices I’ve made.”
Mingi tilted his head, his eyes never leaving her face. “We all carry burdens, Yunna. But sometimes, sharing the weight can make everything easier.”
She fell silent, unsure of how to respond. There was something in his tone, something that made her feel small and protected at the same time.
“If you need someone to listen, I’m here,” he added, his voice low, almost mesmerizing.
“Thank you, Mingi.” That was all she could say before she looked away, her cheeks burning.
He smiled slightly, pleased. Every little reaction from her felt like a triumph, a step closer to winning her over. Because deep down, he knew that Yunna was all he wanted. And he was willing to do whatever it took to make her realize that, too.
