CHAPTER 12: BACKGROUND

She walked out meeting Sage who leaned on her bike holding 2 black coloured helmets under the mild snow

"It's about time your highness" Sage said sarcastically, throwing an helmet at Diane with a smirk

" Sorry, sorry" Diane replied smiling as she boarded her bike as they zoomed off to college

The girls arrived roughly parking their rides. Everyone stared at them wondering who it was.

"Hey! You guys want your eyes anymore?" Sage scolded removing her helmet as her red short hair came to view, everyone looked away, Diane smirked.

"You know it would be nice to talk to people without them fearing you" Diane said as Sage scoffed then she took off her helmet the wind blew her hair behind her back revealing the unusual length, she removes her mask as her lashes fluttered in the sun making everyone freeze again

"Tch.. so troublesome, you'll all freeze to death if you don't go for class!" Sage said as everyone ran in, Diane smiled brightly shrugging

"Let's go in shall we?"

"That's right" Sage replied as Diane shook her head walking in hand in hand with Sage, a wave of pain washed over her body as she smiles hiding it.

"Thanks for the make up" Diane said sarcastically as she itched beneath her eye, using that as an excuse to let go of Sage

"Either that or you look like a panda?"

"What's wrong with a girl having dark circles"

"Everything" Sage replied

" Well I think it means she works hard enough, it's like a medal"

" Yeah, a medal" Sage repeated as Diane pouted cutely ignoring her

" What now? You mad?"

" Of course I'm mad! I help you out all night yet you criticize me"

" Alright, alright I was just trying to raise your awareness as a girl "

" As if you have one"

" Don't I?" Sage asked as Diane blinked twice

" Hey what's that supposed to mean?" Sage asked as Diane shook her head

" Nothing"

Bobby and Jackie arrived in college as they also head for class. Jackie walked nervously towards business admin, keeping an eye out for Diane

"You look responsible" Bobby commented as Jackie froze

"Do I? Good, cause I don't want to scare her off" Jackie replied tapping her cheeks.

She also adjusts her long coat and pants trying to look neat and presentable.

Bobby adjusts her hair pulling the left side to the back of her ear

"If only you'd look this responsible when attending business meetings"

Jackie froze at his statement glaring at him as Bobby looked away handsomely in his black coat, turtle neck and trousers

" Such a sharp tongue" Jackie muttered angrily as Bobby hit her head, she frowned

" Why did you hit me?!" Jackie complained hitting Bobby's head back as Bobby froze

" Did you just hit me?"

"Well you hit me first!" Jackie defended as she tried stuck out her tongue angrily at Bobby who looked away.

Diane showed up walking backwards into business admin, with Sage behind her as they seemed to be chatting

Jackie froze at her appearance, staring blankly at her

" Bro, did your finally take my life with your hits?"

"No why?"

" I think I'm seeing an angel in the snow" Jackie said Bobby sighed holding her ear

"Why do you behave like a ruffian around guys?"

" Not the ear again... I'VE TOLD YOU NOT TO HOLD MY EAR UP AGAIN!"

" Mrs Lu and Old Lu said if you stare at boys indecently, I can"

" When did I stare at boys indecently?"

" Just now. Didn't you say you saw an angel in the snow just now? I also have the permission to cancel your credit card for further denial "

" No! My dear brother, you misunderstood me, look at who I was referring to first would you?" Jackie smiled as Bobby sighed turning towards Diane.

He froze for a while losing his compusure as Jackie noticed

" Aiya, is that drool i see?" Jackie teased as Bobby quickly checks his face feeling nothing, he sighed then glared at Jackie who hid a giggle

"Just kidding, just kidding"

" Your credit cards are canceled"

"Oh..."- Jackie replied sadly then she turned to Diane

-" Oh well, it's worth seeing her again" Jackie said as she ran into the snow towards Diane. Bobby rubbed his temples like an old man as he watched her leave with a bright smile.

Diane suddenly felt sharp unbearable pain in her bones as she stopped walking she took another step backwards as the unbearable pain increased as she gritted her teeth in endurance

"D! Sage!" Jackie called out as Sage and Diane turned to her direction. A spark of pain engulfed her with each step Jackie took towards her

" Cultivation..." Diane muttered as she widened her eyes

"No .....Jackie!" Diane called out as Jackie crashed on her with a hug into the deep pile of snow

"Ouch.. that has to hurt" Sage muttered as Diane opened her eyes

*Diane: "Why did it have to be here?* Diane muttered in thought as Jackie held her tight

" Oh! That's hot, I heard you had a fever but u didn't think it was this high" Jackie said standing up from Diane as Sage frowned

"What do you mean this high? I checked it this morning it was high but bearable "

" Really, maybe it's just the cold" Jackie replied as she stretched out her hand with Sage towards Diane to help her up.

Diane took their hands and it felt like being electrified, she quickly took back her hand as she pretends to dust off her clothes running her hand at the back of her neck as she felt the metal connected to her spine, it had absorbed little of Jackie's cultivation which went again the poison shocking Diane as a result as she jolts taking back her hand.

" Sorry about that" Jackie muttered in a low voice as Diane forcefully got back up on her feet

"No p, JK" Diane replied with a smile

"She said your temperature was high" Sage said as Jackie nodded at Diane

"Must be hers and mine combined, also it's cold everywhere the human body would feel warm, I feel fine"

" Really?" Sage asked reaching for Diane whose body tightened in defense

" Must be! I seemed tired after running too" Jackie said as Sage froze then took back her hand turning to Jackie as Diane sighed

"Did you also catch a fever?"

"Yeah...the weather is really cold"

" What's a spoilt princess like you doing under the weather?" Sage asked as Jackie smiled

" Messing around" Jackie said quickly as her nose turned red

" Lets get away from the snow, your face is already red" Diane said as Jackie nodded.

" Did you come alone?" Sage asked

" No, my bro came with me, he's...." Jackie said looking at where Bobby stood but found him gone

" Gone.... I guess" Jackie said as Diane sighed

*Diane: Great, I really can't take another hit like that, especially with my essence being the strongest of them all"*

" Hey D?"

" Hmn?"

" Could you tell us if something goes wrong with you? I really can't bear to hear another bad news again" Jackie murmured as Diane smiled

" I know, they already told me, they'll break my legs of I don't tell them, I will "

" Thanks" Jackie replied as the girls walked into the class.

The boys whistled upon Diane's entry as usual as Sage and Jackie sighed

" Back seat it is...again" Sage said as Diane stared at the front seat

"I want to seat in front today..." Diane announced as Jackie and Sage stared blankly at her

"....uh...so i won't forget our assignment"

" Sure" Sage replied a little curious but she hid it, as she walked to the back dragging Jackie's collar

" Hey! I can sit in front"

" Stick with your bro girl" Sage said as Diane sighed smiling.

" Phmn!" Jackie scoffed as she sat beside Bobby who stared at Diane.

Ruby, Vanna, Vanessa, and Tamar walked in as they saw Diane seated in front and joined her

"Hi, you're early" Harley said as Diane and Astrid shook their head.

The professor walked in as everyone greeted

"Morning sir"

The lecturer turned on the smart board tv which function as a white board,a computer and a projector.

"Morning, I would call out your names for submission of last week's assignment, I'm your new lecturer and I would be picking off where your EENG 201 lecturer stopped"

Everyone murmured as they brought out their papers.

"Thank God I did this yesterday" Harley said as the girls sighed

" You don't get to sigh young lady" Astrid scolded Diane who nodded

" Ms Baker Rose and Ms Perry Jane" The lecturer called out as 2 ladies walked out dropping their papers

" Mr Scot Davis and Mr Cooper Harry"

2 guys walked out submitting their papers

"Mr Wayne and Mr Pierce"

Chris and Jake walked out as the girls held their squealing as they turned red from excitement. Diane rolled her eyes as Jessica caught her, biting her lips in anger

"Mr Shawn and Mr Allen"

Robbie and Nathan walked out as Sage smirked at Robbie who handed his papers like a noble prince

"Mr Evans Mr Turner, Mr Charles and Mr Watson" The lecturer called as Dick, Jim, Miles and Zamiel followed

"Ms Raven and Ms Peyton"

Sage, Astrid, Vanessa and Vanna walked out as they handed over their assignments

"Ms Quinn, Ms Archer, Ms Fox"

Harley, Ruby and Tamar walked out as they submitted their assignments.

"Ms Xu and Mr Lu" The lecturer called out as Bobby and Jessica stood up, their aura filled the class and the girls murmured

" They even get called together, so cute!"

Jessica smirked turning to Diane who didn't have any facial or body response to the murmurs as her composure was perfect.

The duo walked towards the front of the class as Bobby passed by Diane she placed her head on the table closing her eyes as she curled up her feet in pain. Jessica thought she was affected by their pairing as she smiled inwardly

*Jessica: "Serves you right, I am the only Mrs Lu there can be no other except me"*

Jessica said walking back with Bobby to their seats

" Lastly we have Diane" The lecturer called out

" Yes sir" Diane replied as she stood up with her paper

"Your surname? There must have been a mistake with the data, there's no surname on the list, We're so sorry, I'll help in filling it in"

" No need sir, your data is accurate"

" Then...."

" I don't have a surname" Diane said as everywhere became silent

*Astrid: Really? I thought she was joking!"*

*"Harley: Me too"*

The girls frowned as Jackie bowed her head sighing, Bobby frowned the turned to Diane who had no facial expression on.

"Oh...ok"

"Here" Diane said handing her papers over as she walked back to her seat. The lecturer continued with the class awkwardly.

Hours later......

"That's all for today, have a nice day"

"You too sir" Everyone greeted as he walked out. Diane packed her book into her bag

"I'm off"

"Where to?" Astrid asked

"I have other assignments to submit, I'll see you guys later?"

" Sure" The girls said as Diane gestured a salute at Sage and Jackie who returned the gesture before leaving the class.

Diane walked around the college's building with her hand pressed against her stomach

*Diane: "Aiya, why did it have to be you my essence trusted?"* Diane said in thought as she saw a lady running towards an old man

"Surprise!" The old man said as she ran to hug him

"Dad! When did you show up"

"Just now, How's that for a surprise?"

"Good, very good"

Diane watched them with a smile as she reminisced about the past

*10 years ago*

*Diane: " Dad I want to share my power, teach me how to share my power"*

*Skyler: "....."*

*Diane:" I know what you want to say, I'm impulsive but I really did think of it this time, and it's not a decision I made on a whim"*

*Skyler: ....*

*Diane: Dad...say something"*

*Skyler suddenly grabs her arm as he inspects her body*

*Diane:" What are you looking for?"*

*Skyler: "Where you hit your head, I want to see if I can help or not"*

*Diane:" Aiya, Long gongzi ni hai shi ren ma? ( Aiya, Young master Long, are you still human?)*

*Skyler: Whether I am human or not, we'll know in the future, we have plenty of time to find out"*

*Diane:" Tch, then you better keep your promise"*

*Skyler:" Ya xiaoguniang, ni yayou lijie (Hey young lady, you should be polite)*

*Diane:" Me, I.."*

*Skyler: "Hmn."

*Diane: "Hao, MU QIN!!! (Fine, Mom!)"*

*Skyler: (Hurries to close her mouth) Fine fine you win, I'll teach you how to share your power, little devil"*

*Diane: (smiles) That's right"*

"Dad, are you ok? Do you need help? Where are you?" Diane muttered walking away sadly.
