Reina Luna
Aitana, a young woman who just turned eighteen, lives in the north of the Greyson kingdom, in the Blue Moon pack. Her father is the Beta of the pack, well-loved by all, just like their Alpha and her father’s best friend. During her childhood, Aitana was betrothed to the future Alpha of the pack, Damian, with whom she forged a very tender bond. Damian always took care of her, being three years older than her. The bond between them was so strong that their mothers were sure that they would be destined mates.
When Damian turned thirteen, he had to go to the Warren Academy, where future Alphas and Betas are trained. That’s when Aitana had to say goodbye to Damian and also to her older brother, Alain, who would become the future Beta of the pack once Damian was named Alpha. Once that happened, Aitana would officially become his fiancee and the future Luna of the Blue Moon pack. Of course, she also longed to be Damian's destined mate.
Eight years passed, during which Aitana grew up and became a beautiful woman. Everyone in the pack admired her beauty, and many werewolves wished she was their destined mate. But for Aitana, there was only one man, and that was Damian, who would soon return from his arduous training with her older brother, Alain.
“Aitana!” shouted Sam, Aitana’s best friend. She was blond with green eyes. “Where are you going?” she said, reaching her. Classes were over, and Aitana hurried out.
“I'm going to Alpha’s house. I'll help Luna Dafne with the preparations for Damian and Alain’s welcome party,” she said excitedly, walking toward the school exit. She was wearing jeans that accentuated her figure and a baggy white blouse. Her brown hair was pulled back in a ponytail.
“Oh, right, it will also be your engagement party, right?” she said excitedly. Aitana smiled at those words. She was very excited that she would soon become Damian's fiancee. “You might even be his destined mate, I mean, you turned eighteen last month, and so far, none of the pack members has turned out to be,” she finished. Aitana continued on her way without saying anything. Sam accompanied her until they took different paths.
The pack was not too big, but it was one of the most powerful, thanks to the good leadership of Alpha Elias, who had not only dedicated himself to keeping the pack together, but had also forged alliances with different packs to protect themselves from the rogues, those werewolves who had abandoned their packs for committing crimes that were not forgiven, one of them being the most unforgivable, murdering their destined mate. Thanks to the alliances that Alpha Elias forged, the pack was one of the most famous, both for the great skills of its werewolves and for its business ventures. Alpha Elias and her father were in business with humans, although they did not know their true origins. The Blue Moon pack was abundant, even in money.
“Hello, Luna Dafne,” said Aitana upon reaching the living room of the Alpha's mansion. Luna Dafne was a beautiful woman, despite her age, with copper hair and brown eyes. She had a great figure and was very kind to everyone, although she also possessed a character that made everyone respect her for what she was, the Luna of the pack.
“Oh, my dear Aitana, it's good that you're here. I've been looking at some designs for your dress for the welcome party,” said Luna Dafne, showing her tablet, displaying different models of dream dresses.
“Luna, it's too much. I can wear one of the ones I already have,” said Aitana, amazed by those dresses, but she didn't like to abuse her Luna's kindness.
“Nonsense, you must look more beautiful than ever that day. My son will arrive, and I know you will be his destined mate… oh, you two will be the perfect couple,” Dafne said excitedly. Since she was a child, Aitana had grown up with the mentality of being the future Luna and Damian's destined mate, although being Luna didn't matter much to her, as she had truly grown up in love with Damian and wished with all her heart to be his mate and live her life by his side.
“Luna, please don't spoil Aitana too much.” Andrea, Aitana's mother, arrived. The woman with black hair and light eyes placed a tray with three cups of tea on the coffee table. She gave one to Luna Dafne and then to her beloved daughter.
“Not at all, Andrea. You know I adore Aitana very much. She is the perfect woman for my son, the future Alpha,” she said, caressing Aitana’s face with such tenderness.
“But we can’t be so sure. It’s likely that Damian has found his mate at the academy…” Andrea said. She watched as her daughter’s gaze saddened. She had thought about that possibility, and it would be something that would hurt her too much.
“Of course not. We know that the academy is very strict and doesn't allow frequent communication or visits with the students. But the few times Elias went to visit him, Damian didn't say anything about a mate, and in the letters he sent he didn't mention anything either and always mentioned Aitana in them, so you don't have to worry, dear,” said Dafne, confident in her words. Aitana nodded at those words, but Andrea was still worried about her daughter. She even felt that it was a mistake to betroth her to Damian as children and let her grow up with the idea that she would be the future Alpha’s destined mate.
Aitana woke up very early that morning. She was so happy because the day Damian was coming back had finally arrived. She put on a light blue dress; it was Damian's favorite color. She left her brown hair down and defined its waves well. Her makeup was not very heavy. Her lips had a nude tone. Her cheeks were red, but it was more natural than because of makeup. She went down the stairs and headed to the kitchen. Her mother was there preparing breakfast, but to her surprise, there was a young man with short, tousled brown hair and honey-colored eyes. He was tall and had a very well-defined body from exercise.
“Aitana?” the young man said in his masculine voice when he saw her. She nodded and looked at her mother, who wouldn’t stop smiling.
“Alain?” she said nervously. The boy nodded, stood up, and approached her. He hugged her tightly, and Aitana responded.
“By the Moon! When did you get here?” she asked excitedly as she finished hugging her brother.
“A few minutes ago. Look at you, you’re beautiful, sister,” he said excitedly, looking her up and down. “You’re not a little crybaby anymore.” He laughed playfully.
“Shut up, silly,” Aitana said, giving him a light punch. “And… Did Damian come too?” she asked excitedly. Alain nodded at her words, although he seemed a little nervous.
“He went straight to the Alpha's mansion,” he said with a smile. He noticed how his sister’s eyes lit up and knew why. His mother had briefly explained to him what was going on.
“Well, then, I should go say hello…” she said excitedly.
“I don't think now is a good time. I mean, it was a long trip, and Damian is tired… you should wait until the afternoon. What do you think?” her brother suggested.
“That's right, honey. Besides, breakfast is ready, and your father will be here soon. It's been a long time since we had breakfast as a family,” Andrea said, supporting her son. Aitana nodded, and before she could say anything else, that handsome man, her father, the Beta of the Blue Moon pack, arrived.
“Alain, as soon as I got your mother’s message, I dropped what I was doing. Welcome home, son,” said that handsome man with blond hair and honey eyes excitedly.
“Thanks, Dad,” Alain said, giving his father a big hug. Despite his position and rugged appearance, Marcus was a man who loved and protected his family.
The family sat down to breakfast. Alain talked about his life at the academy and how difficult the training was, but even so, he was happy to have attended as he had become very strong and worthy of being the next Beta. Aitana listened attentively to her brother, but she was dying to go to the Alpha's mansion and reunite with Damian. She wanted to see how handsome he had become, she wanted to hug him and tell him how much she missed him, and above all, she wanted to find out if they were destined mates.
“By the way, an invitation arrived from the Alpha King,” Marcus said, making everyone focus their eyes on him. “We are invited to a ball in honor of his birthday,” said Marcus.
“I’ve heard unpleasant things about him,” Aitana spoke up. “Are you going?” she asked. Marcus nodded.
“We’re going. The families of the Alphas and Betas are invited, so get everything ready. We’re leaving this weekend,” Marcus said, leaving everyone surprised.
“Do you have anything in mind? The king rarely allows himself to be seen by others. He’s quite mysterious,” Alain spoke like a true adult.
“It is said that he is looking for a mate. It’s been many years since he took the throne, and he is reaching the age where he must find a mate, or his wolf will take over him. Also, we know his origins. He comes from the Lycans. His species is different from ours and also scarce,” Marcus said. Alain nodded and looked at his sister.
“You could be the king's destined mate, little sister,” he said jokingly. Aitana glared at him, for she wanted no one but Damian.
After breakfast, Aitana waited for her brother so they could go to the Alpha's mansion together. She was dying to see Damian after eight years. Although Luna Dafne had shown her pictures of him, she wanted to see him in person, to see how he had changed over the years, and she wanted him to see her. She had dreamed of that moment for eight years, to meet again and for their wolves to feel that sensation of destined mates.
“Aitana, you should know something.” Alain stopped her in front of the doors of the mansion. Aitana looked at him and waited for him to speak. “My mother told me what you feel for Damian, but you must understand that the Moon Goddess is the one who chooses destined mates,” he began to speak. He didn’t know how to tell his sister that. He knew it would break her heart.
“What do you mean by that? Did you find your mate?” she asked excitedly. Alain shook his head.
“No, I didn’t,” he said wistfully. He noticed his sister’s big smile fade from her face. “I’m sorry, little sis,” he whispered. Their conversation was interrupted. The door was opened from the inside by one of the employees.
“Welcome,” the older woman said. Aitana lowered her gaze, trying to understand her brother’s words.
“Damian?” she whispered. Before Alain could answer, they heard someone talking to them.
“Alain! I’m glad you made it,” said a young man Alain’s age with short blond hair slicked back. He had a body as well-defined as Alain’s, and his green eyes sparkled. “Oh, you must be Aitana, right?” the young man asked, reaching them. Aitana looked into his eyes. She had seen him in photographs, but in person, he was even more handsome.
“Hello, future Alpha Damian,” Aitana whispered nervously. She tried to smile, but it was impossible. Her heart was beginning to ache, and she felt sadness wash over her.
“What? Don’t say that, little one. I’m still the same old Damian,” he said excitedly, looking the young woman up and down. “You’ve become very beautiful. Give me a hug,” he said, unaware of what was happening to Aitana at that moment. He hugged her excitedly. Aitana glanced sideways at her brother, who was looking at her worriedly. “I missed you so much, little one.” He ended the hug and stroked her head as he did when they were children.
“Yeah, me too,” Aitana whispered. She adjusted her hair and sighed. Her wolf hadn’t reacted when she saw him. It was obvious. Damian was not her destined mate.
“But come in, Aitana. I want you to meet someone. I’m really looking forward to you two being very good friends. I’ve told her a lot about you,” he said as he led the girl by the hand. Alain followed closely behind, worried about his sister.
Damian led them to the living room where Luna Dafne was sitting with a beautiful redhead with jade green eyes.
“Oh, my dear Aitana,” Luna Dafne said, standing up. She looked at Aitana with concern, for she knew more than anyone how much this news would hurt the young woman.
“Luna,” she said with a slight smile, although it was forced.
“Come, darling,” Damian said, approaching the redhead. He took her hand and brought her closer to Aitana. That woman was a little taller than Aitana. Even her body was much more developed than hers. “I want to introduce you to my destined mate and the future Luna of the Blue Moon pack, Melissa, daughter of the Alpha of the Black Moon pack,” he introduced her proudly. “Melissa, this is Aitana Hunter, daughter of Beta Marcus and younger sister of Alain,” he said with a big smile.
“Nice to meet you, Aitana. Damian and Alain have told me a lot about you. I’ve been looking forward to this day. I really wanted to meet you, and I hope we can be very good friends,” she said excitedly, giving Aitana a hug, who didn’t know what to do or how to react. Her emotions were a mess at that moment.
“It’s a pleasure, future Luna,” Aitana whispered, trying to control everything she was feeling.
“Please, call me Melissa. They’ve told me so much about you that I feel like we’re already like sisters,” Melissa said tenderly. She was kind and warm. She didn’t know about Aitana's feelings for Damian, something even Aitana understood.
“She would be your sister-in-law. Aitana is the little sister I never had,” Damian said. That hurt Aitana. While she looked at Damian with a woman’s love for a man, he saw her as a little sister.
“Well, I think you should go get some rest, Melissa. You must be tired from the trip,” said Luna Dafne kindly.
“Right. Our bedroom is ready,” Damian said. Aitana looked at him sadly. They were even sharing a room now. Alain put his hand on his sister’s shoulder, noticing the sadness on her face.
“Well, Aitana, I hope to see you at the party tonight…” Melissa said. Aitana just nodded. She couldn’t say a single word.
“I’ll be back in a moment,” Damian said. He accompanied Melissa to the bedroom. Aitana watched the couple leave, very affectionate. Damian hugged Melissa by the waist, and she caressed his cheek so tenderly.
“Oh, I'm so sorry, my dear Aitana,” said Dafne once her son and Melissa left.
“Don’t worry, Luna. It is as the Moon Goddess wished. We cannot deny her decisions.” She smiled. Her eyes were filled with tears, and she tried not to let a single one escape.
“I really wanted to tell you, but Damian wanted to keep it as a surprise. I agreed until Mom told me how you felt about him,” Alain said. Aitana looked at him and tried to smile.
“It’s not your fault,” she said. “You know, I need to clear my head a bit. Luna, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go,” she said, trying to act normal. Alain looked at her worriedly. “I’ll be fine. Don’t worry.” She went over and kissed him on the cheek and then left.
