Episode 4: Who you really Are?

The morning sun streamed through the windows of Jungkook’s small apartment, a modest yet cozy space filled with only the essentials. Unlike the grand mansions his family owned, this apartment represented the simplicity Jungkook craved—a life free from the weight of expectations that came with being a Jeon.

After finishing breakfast, Jungkook slung his bag over his shoulder and headed to school. On his way, he received a text message. It was from Mr. Kang, the school head, who often checked in on him.

Mr. Kang: Jungkook, are you free to stop by my office today? Just want to see how you’re doing.

Jungkook smiled faintly at the message. Mr. Kang had always been kind to him, treating him with warmth rather than deference, even though he knew Jungkook’s true identity.

Jungkook: Sure, I’ll stop by after lunch.

During lunch, Jungkook sat with Jimin, Hoseok, Bang Chan, and Eunbi, laughing at Hoseok’s exaggerated jokes. Their lively chatter was interrupted when Taehyung passed by their table, his usual confident smirk on display. He stopped briefly to glance at Jungkook.

“Enjoying your lunch, Jungkookie?” Taehyung teased, his tone playful.

Jungkook raised an eyebrow. “Trying to, if you’d stop interrupting.”

Taehyung chuckled and walked away, but not before giving Jungkook one last lingering look. As he turned the corner, his smile faded into a thoughtful expression.

Taehyung had overheard a conversation between two teachers earlier that day, one where they mentioned the Jeon family and how someone from that lineage was currently attending their school. Though they didn’t mention a name, Taehyung couldn’t shake the feeling that they were talking about Jungkook.

Could it be him? Taehyung thought. His curiosity only grew.

After lunch, Jungkook visited Mr. Kang’s office as planned. The school head greeted him warmly and gestured for him to sit.

“How have you been, Jungkook?” Mr. Kang asked, his tone genuinely concerned.

“I’m fine,” Jungkook replied. “School’s been good, and I’ve made some friends.”

“That’s great to hear,” Mr. Kang said, smiling. “Your father will be pleased when he hears that. He always worries about you, you know.”

Jungkook nodded, his expression softening. “I know. But I just want to live a normal life for now. I don’t want people to treat me differently because of my family.”

Mr. Kang leaned back in his chair, his expression thoughtful. “I understand. You’ve always been grounded, Jungkook. Your father respects that about you, even if he doesn’t always say it.”

As their conversation continued, Taehyung, who had been passing by the office, paused when he noticed the door slightly ajar. Hearing Jungkook’s voice, he leaned closer, catching snippets of their conversation.

“...your father… always traveling abroad for the family business...”

Taehyung’s eyes narrowed in curiosity. He moved closer but accidentally bumped into a chair outside the office. The noise startled both Mr. Kang and Jungkook.

“Is someone there?” Mr. Kang called out, stepping toward the door.

Taehyung quickly walked away, cursing under his breath for being so careless.

Later that day, during band practice, Taehyung decided to push forward with his plans. While Yoongi and Namjoon were busy discussing arrangements, Taehyung took the opportunity to approach Jungkook.

“Your voice is incredible, Jungkookie,” Taehyung said softly, his tone sincere. “You’ve got the kind of talent people dream of.”

Jungkook looked up, surprised by the compliment. “Thanks, Taehyung. That means a lot.”

Taehyung smiled warmly, but the moment Jungkook turned away, his smirk returned. Step one complete, he thought.

Throughout practice, Taehyung found subtle ways to get closer to Jungkook—offering to adjust his mic stand, brushing against him “accidentally,” and showering him with praise every chance he got.

At one point, Jungkook caught Taehyung staring at him intently. “Is something wrong?” Jungkook asked.

Taehyung quickly shook his head, his expression turning playful. “Nothing at all. Just thinking how lucky we are to have you in the band.”

As the band packed up for the day, Taehyung turned to Jungkook with a seemingly genuine smile. “Hey, Jungkookie. You’re really fitting in. I’m glad you’re here.”

“Thanks,” Jungkook said, hesitating slightly. “I’m glad I joined.”

But as Taehyung walked away, his mind was racing. The conversation he overheard earlier lingered in his thoughts. Who are you really, Jeon Jungkook?
