Jungkook sat on a bench near the school courtyard during lunch, enjoying the rare moment of peace. The soft breeze carried the faint scent of flowers, and most of the students were busy in the cafeteria or hanging out with their friends.
Lost in thought, he began humming a tune that had been stuck in his head all morning. His voice was soft at first, but as he became more comfortable, it grew louder, filling the quiet courtyard with a rich, melodic sound.
Unbeknownst to Jungkook, Taehyung had been walking nearby. He froze mid-step, his head tilting slightly as he listened. The sound of Jungkook’s voice was mesmerizing, pure and emotional. A sly smile crept onto Taehyung’s face as he peeked around the corner, watching Jungkook sing with his eyes closed.
“Interesting,” Taehyung murmured to himself.
When Jungkook finished the song, he opened his eyes to find Taehyung standing in front of him, clapping enthusiastically.
“That was amazing!” Taehyung said, his voice warm and genuine.
Jungkook flushed, startled. “H-how long were you standing there?”
“Long enough to know that you’ve got some serious talent,” Taehyung said with a grin. He sat down beside Jungkook, his gaze filled with admiration—or so it seemed. “Why didn’t you tell me you could sing like that?”
“It’s nothing special,” Jungkook muttered, looking away.
“Nothing special?” Taehyung scoffed, leaning closer. “Are you kidding? You’re incredible. You should join our music club. We’re forming a band, and we need a lead vocalist. You’d be perfect.”
Jungkook blinked in surprise. “Me? A lead vocalist?”
“Absolutely,” Taehyung said, his enthusiasm infectious. “You’ve got the voice for it. Trust me, Jungkookie—you’d be the star of the show.”
Jungkook hesitated, unsure how to respond. “I... I don’t know. I’ve never been in a band before.”
Taehyung waved off his concern with a laugh. “Don’t worry about that. I’ll help you. We’ll all help you. It’ll be fun, I promise.”
Though Jungkook was still unsure, something about Taehyung’s excitement made him want to say yes.
After lunch, Jungkook decided to head to the cafeteria to grab a snack. He spotted Jimin and Hoseok sitting at a corner table, waving him over enthusiastically.
“Jungkook, over here!” Jimin called, grinning brightly.
Jungkook smiled and walked over to join them. “Hey.”
“Man, you’re so lucky Taehyung’s taken an interest in you,” Hoseok said as Jungkook sat down. “It’s rare for him to be this friendly with someone so quickly.”
Jungkook tilted his head, confused. “Really? He seems... nice.”
Jimin and Hoseok exchanged a look. Jimin leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. “He’s nice, sure, but... he’s also complicated. You just have to be careful around him.”
Hoseok nodded, his expression more serious than usual. “Yeah. Taehyung’s got a way of pulling people in, but sometimes it’s hard to tell what he’s really thinking.”
Jungkook frowned, their words adding to his growing confusion. “Why are you telling me this?”
Jimin sighed. “Because we like you, Jungkook. You seem like a good guy, and we don’t want you getting hurt.”
Before Jungkook could respond, a familiar voice interrupted them.
“There you are, Jungkookie!” Taehyung said cheerfully, appearing beside their table with his usual bright smile. “I’ve been looking for you.”
Jungkook looked up at him, startled. “You have?”
“Of course,” Taehyung said, sliding into the seat next to him. “I wanted to see if you’d thought more about joining the music club.”
Jungkook hesitated, glancing at Jimin and Hoseok. “I... I’m still not sure.”
Taehyung’s smile softened, his tone gentle. “Hey, no pressure. Just think about it, okay? We’d be lucky to have you.”
As Taehyung stood up to leave, he shot a quick glance at Jimin and Hoseok, his smile still in place but his eyes sharp. Then, he turned back to Jungkook, his cheerful demeanor returning.
“See you later, Jungkookie!” he said, waving as he walked away.
As soon as Taehyung was out of earshot, Jimin leaned closer to Jungkook. “That’s exactly what we mean. He’s sweet now, but there’s something... off about him.”
Hoseok nodded. “Just be careful, okay? He’s not as simple as he seems.”
Jungkook frowned, their words lingering in his mind. Taehyung’s kindness felt genuine, but was there something more beneath the surface?
Later, Taehyung met up with Yoongi and Namjoon in their usual spot in the music room. Yoongi was lazily tapping on a keyboard, while Namjoon tuned his guitar.
“Guess what,” Taehyung announced, his voice dripping with confidence.
“What now?” Yoongi asked, not looking up.
“I found us a lead vocalist,” Taehyung said, leaning against the wall with a smug grin.
Namjoon raised an eyebrow. “You mean the new guy? Jungkook?”
“Exactly,” Taehyung said, crossing his arms. “I heard him singing today, and trust me—he’s got the voice of an angel.”
Yoongi finally looked up, his expression skeptical. “And you’re sure about this? You’re not just dragging him in because you’re bored?”
Taehyung smirked, his eyes glinting mischievously. “Oh, I’m definitely not bored. He’s talented, and he matches our vibe. Plus…” He trailed off, his smirk widening as he turned his back to his friends.
“Plus what?” Namjoon asked, narrowing his eyes.
Taehyung glanced over his shoulder, his grin almost predatory. “It’s fun seeing him squirm. He’s so polite, so reserved... I can’t wait to see how he reacts when things get a little more... complicated.”
Yoongi sighed, rubbing his temples. “You’re unbelievable.”
Namjoon frowned. “Just don’t take it too far, Tae. The kid’s new. He doesn’t deserve to be messed with.”
Taehyung waved off his concern. “Don’t worry. I’ve got it under control.”
