I'm Not Aiming For Your Chest

I'm Not Aiming For Your Chest

01

Amanda sat on the edge of the bed, the satin of her wedding dress still brushing against her fingertips. Her hands trembled as she fidgeted with the hem of the fabric, trying to calm the storm brewing inside her chest. The room felt too big and too quiet, amplifying the whispers of insecurity she couldn’t shake.

The door creaked open slowly. Ryan entered, a soft smile lighting up his face as he carried a glass of water. He walked over to Amanda and sat beside her, gently handing her the glass. “You look tired,” he said, his tone warm and concerned.

Amanda nodded faintly, taking the glass without a word. Her throat felt dry, but not from thirst—it was the weight of fear tightening her voice. She knew Ryan loved her, knew he’d always been patient and kind. But tonight... their wedding night, all the confidence she’d built over the years was crumbling to pieces.

“Ryan,” Amanda finally murmured, her voice barely a whisper.

Ryan tilted his head, waiting. “Yes, love?”

Amanda lowered her gaze, staring at her trembling hands. “I’m scared,” she said at last, her voice breaking.

Ryan frowned slightly, confused. He placed the glass on the nightstand and took Amanda’s hands gently in his. “Scared of what? It’s me, Amanda. We’re married now. This is our night. You don’t have to be scared.”

Amanda inhaled deeply, struggling to find the right words. But when they came, they spilled out with all the pain she’d been holding back. “I’m scared you’ll be disappointed... in me.”

Ryan’s brows furrowed deeper. “Disappointed? Why would I ever be disappointed? Amanda, I love you.”

“But... my body,” Amanda whispered, tears beginning to well up in her eyes. “Ryan, I know my chest is small. I know I’m not like other women. I feel like... I have nothing to offer you.”

Ryan froze for a moment, taken aback by the depth of her insecurity. He had always known Amanda was sensitive about this, but he hadn’t realized how deeply it affected her.

He took a deep breath, steadying himself before cupping her face in his hands. “Amanda, listen to me,” he said, his voice calm yet filled with emotion. “I didn’t marry you for your body. I don’t care about the size of your chest, or anything like that. I love who you are—your heart, your soul. That’s what matters to me.”

“But what if someday you feel like it’s not enough? What if you find someone more beautiful, more perfect?” Amanda cut in, her voice laced with panic.

Ryan shook his head slowly, leaning down until their foreheads touched. “You’re already more than enough for me. I’ve never thought about anyone else. I only want you. Forever.”

Amanda began to cry, a mix of pain and love overwhelming her. She wanted to believe Ryan’s words, but the whispers of insecurity still lingered. Yet Ryan’s embrace felt so real, so warm, as if he was holding all her broken pieces together.

That night, with Ryan’s patience and love, they consummated their marriage. He was gentle, attentive, and full of tenderness, ensuring Amanda felt safe and cherished. Though her fears hadn’t entirely vanished, Amanda felt a glimmer of hope that maybe, just maybe, Ryan truly loved her for who she was.

The Next Morning

Sunlight streamed through the curtains, casting a golden glow across the room. Amanda woke earlier than Ryan, her eyes immediately drawn to the mirror by the dresser. She slipped out of bed quietly, her satin pajamas clinging softly to her frame, and stood in front of the mirror.

Her reflection stared back at her. Her gaze dropped to her chest, small and barely noticeable beneath the thin fabric. Slowly, she raised a hand, tracing the outline of her chest with her fingers.

“I never used to care,” she whispered to herself. “So why does it bother me so much now? Why do I feel... less?”

The bed creaked softly as Ryan stirred. He sat up, yawning before catching sight of Amanda standing by the mirror. “Morning, love,” he greeted with a sleepy smile. “You’re up early. Did you sleep well?”

Amanda quickly turned away from the mirror, forcing a casual tone. “I did,” she lied, her smile strained.

Ryan got up and walked toward her, wrapping his arms around her from behind. “You know,” he murmured into her ear, “I love seeing you like this. No makeup, just you, natural and beautiful. That’s what makes you perfect to me.”

Amanda smiled faintly, but her eyes remained fixed on her reflection. She wanted to believe Ryan’s words, but the small voice in her head wouldn’t stop whispering, reminding her of all the ways she fell short.

“Ryan,” Amanda finally said, her voice hesitant.

“Hm?” Ryan loosened his embrace and turned her gently to face him.

“Are you sure... you don’t mind?” She paused, searching his eyes. “I mean... there are so many women out there who are more... attractive.”

Ryan stared at her for a long moment before letting out a deep sigh. He placed his hands firmly on her shoulders, his gaze steady. “Amanda, I’ve already told you—I love you. There’s no one else. Please, stop doubting that.”

“But what if one day you change your mind? What if you meet someone more perfect?”

Ryan’s expression darkened slightly, a flicker of frustration crossing his face. “Amanda, I don’t know how else to say this. Do I have to prove my love to you every single day just to fight off your fears?”

Amanda fell silent, guilt washing over her. She knew Ryan wasn’t wrong, but the fear inside her was so deeply rooted that she didn’t know how to shake it.

That Evening

Ryan worked late in their small home office, while Amanda sat alone in the living room, scrolling aimlessly through her phone. She came across a photo of a woman—flawless skin, a dazzling smile, and a full, curvaceous figure.

Her heart sank. She imagined a woman like that standing next to Ryan, and the image made her stomach twist.

Amanda bit her lip, her thoughts spiraling. When Ryan finally emerged from the office, he smiled and walked over to her, planting a kiss on her forehead. “Sorry, I had to finish up a report,” he said.

Amanda nodded, but the words spilled out before she could stop herself. “Ryan, at work... are there any beautiful women you see often?”

Ryan froze, clearly caught off guard. “What do you mean?”

“I mean... women who are beautiful. More...” She trailed off, afraid to finish.

Ryan let out a slow breath, setting down the mug he was holding. “Amanda, why do you keep asking me things like this? What do I have to do to make you believe I only want you?”

Amanda couldn’t answer, her eyes dropping to the floor. Ryan reached for her hand, but this time, there was an edge of exhaustion in his tone.

“Amanda, you have to trust me. If you can’t, how are we supposed to make this marriage work?”

Tears welled up in Amanda’s eyes, but she didn’t know how to apologize, didn’t know how to explain the fear that had rooted itself so deeply in her heart.

Ryan sighed, letting go of her hand and standing. “I love you, Amanda. But if you keep doubting me, I don’t know how long I can keep doing this.”

Amanda sat frozen, watching as Ryan walked into the bedroom, leaving her alone in the dimly lit living room. For the first time, she felt the weight of her own insecurities threatening to destroy everything they had built.
