The main hall of the Cloud Recesses was unusually lively that afternoon. A heated debate was taking place, with two unlikely teams facing off: Wei WuXian and Lan XiChen on one side, and Lan WangJi and Jiang Cheng on the other.
It had all started innocently enough. Wei WuXian had been chatting with Lan XiChen when Jiang Cheng strolled in, dragging Lan WangJi along. One thing led to another, and before anyone knew it, the topic of "who knows Lan WangJi best" spiraled into a full-blown debate involving the four of them.
“Wei WuXian,” Jiang Cheng snapped, pointing a finger at him, “just because you’re always around Lan WangJi doesn’t mean you actually understand him. You’re more of a nuisance than anything else.”
Wei WuXian gasped dramatically, clutching his chest. “How dare you, Jiang Cheng! Lan Zhan and I have a special bond! Right, XiChen-xiong?”
Lan XiChen, ever the diplomat, smiled serenely. “It is true that WangJi and Wei Gongzi have a unique connection.”
“See?” Wei WuXian crowed, turning to Jiang Cheng and Lan WangJi. “Your brother’s on my side!”
Lan WangJi’s calm gaze shifted to Wei WuXian. “Lan XiChen is impartial. You, Wei Ying, are exaggerating.”
Wei WuXian pouted. “Lan Zhan, don’t gang up on me with Jiang Cheng! That’s betrayal!”
Jiang Cheng rolled his eyes. “Betrayal? Please. If anyone’s the victim here, it’s Lan WangJi. He’s stuck with you.”
Lan XiChen interjected, his tone thoughtful. “Perhaps we should settle this properly. A debate. Wei Gongzi and I will argue one side, and Jiang Cheng and WangJi will argue the other.”
Wei WuXian’s eyes lit up. “A debate! Oh, this will be fun!”
Lan WangJi gave his brother a measured look. “This is unnecessary.”
“Don’t back out now, Hanguang-Jun,” Wei WuXian teased, his grin mischievous. “Unless you’re scared of losing.”
Lan WangJi’s jaw tightened ever so slightly. “I do not lose.”
“Good!” Wei WuXian clapped his hands. “Let’s begin!”
Round One: Who Knows Lan WangJi Best?
Wei WuXian started, dramatically gesturing toward Lan WangJi. “Who else knows Lan Zhan better than I do? I know his favorite foods, his favorite music, even the exact shade of red his ears turn when he’s embarrassed!”
Jiang Cheng scoffed. “That’s just surface-level nonsense. I know how he handles responsibility, discipline, and the importance of rules—things you clearly don’t understand.”
Lan XiChen nodded thoughtfully. “But Wei Gongzi knows WangJi’s emotional side, which few people see. That is significant.”
Lan WangJi inclined his head. “Jiang Cheng is also correct. Wei Ying often overlooks the rules.”
Wei WuXian threw his hands up. “Rules again! Lan Zhan, I break rules to help people!”
“And give me a headache in the process,” Jiang Cheng muttered.
Round Two: Best Problem-Solving Skills
Jiang Cheng smirked. “Lan WangJi and I are clearly the better problem-solvers. We handle issues with logic and precision. Wei WuXian solves problems by causing them.”
Wei WuXian grinned, unbothered. “Hey, if the problem gets solved, does it matter how? Creativity, Jiang Cheng. Look it up.”
Lan XiChen added, “Sometimes unconventional methods are the most effective. Wei Gongzi’s ability to think outside the box is commendable.”
Lan WangJi’s lips twitched slightly. “Unconventional is a generous term.”
“See?” Jiang Cheng said, gesturing to Lan WangJi. “Even your husband agrees!”
Wei WuXian turned to Lan XiChen, mock-gasping. “Did you hear that, XiChen-xiong? He called Lan Zhan my husband!”
Lan XiChen’s smile grew faintly amused. “It seems the debate has taken an unexpected turn.”
The Final Round: Most Supportive Team
Wei WuXian leaned closer to Lan XiChen. “Okay, XiChen-xiong, let’s end this with a bang. We’ve got heart, soul, and charisma. They’ve got… rules and scowls.”
Lan XiChen chuckled softly. “WangJi and Jiang Wanyin are certainly formidable, but I believe we have the advantage in spirit.”
Lan WangJi and Jiang Cheng exchanged a glance, both seemingly unimpressed.
“You know what?” Jiang Cheng said, crossing his arms. “This is pointless. Let’s just call it a tie.”
“A tie?” Wei WuXian protested. “But we were clearly winning!”
Lan WangJi finally spoke, his voice calm but firm. “Wei Ying, debates are not meant to be won by noise alone.”
Wei WuXian pouted. “Lan Zhan, you’re no fun.”
Lan XiChen’s serene voice cut in. “Perhaps we can all agree on one thing: despite your differences, you all bring out the best in each other.”
Jiang Cheng snorted. “Speak for yourself.”
But even he couldn’t hide the faint twitch of a smile.
Lan WangJi looked at Wei WuXian, his gaze softening. “Agreed.”
Wei WuXian grinned, throwing an arm around Lan WangJi’s shoulder. “Fine, fine. Peace it is. But next time, Lan Zhan, we’re teaming up, and they’re going down!”
