The moon hung high in the sky, its soft light casting a silver glow over the Cloud Recesses. The air was quiet, the kind of stillness that wrapped around two people like a secret. Wei WuXian sat on the stone steps near the Cold Spring, his legs stretched out as he stared at the water. His lips were curved in a small smile, but his eyes held a flicker of melancholy.
Lan WangJi approached silently, his white robes almost glowing in the moonlight. He stopped a few steps away, watching Wei WuXian for a moment before speaking. “Wei Ying.”
Wei WuXian turned his head, startled out of his thoughts. His smile widened when he saw Lan WangJi. “Lan Zhan, you’re sneaky, you know that? How long were you standing there?”
“Not long,” Lan WangJi replied, his voice calm. “Why are you here alone?”
Wei WuXian shrugged, tilting his head back to look at the stars. “Just thinking. The moon’s nice tonight, isn’t it?”
Lan WangJi moved closer, sitting down beside him. “It is.”
For a while, they sat in silence, the sound of the water gently lapping against the rocks filling the air. Wei WuXian turned to Lan WangJi, his expression softer now. “You know, Lan Zhan, sometimes I still can’t believe I’m here. Alive. With you.”
Lan WangJi’s gaze didn’t waver. “You are here. And I am glad.”
Wei WuXian laughed, a quiet, almost shy sound. “You always know just what to say to make me feel better, don’t you?”
Lan WangJi hesitated for a moment before reaching out, his fingers brushing against Wei WuXian’s hand. The touch was light, but it sent a jolt through both of them. Wei WuXian looked down at their hands, then back up at Lan WangJi, his smile turning teasing. “Lan Zhan, are you holding my hand? How bold of you.”
Lan WangJi didn’t pull away. Instead, he leaned in slightly, his voice low. “Wei Ying.”
Wei WuXian’s breath hitched. There was something in the way Lan WangJi said his name that made his heart race. “Yes?”
Lan WangJi’s golden eyes searched his face, as if seeking permission. Wei WuXian’s teasing smile softened, and he leaned in, closing the distance between them. “Lan Zhan,” he whispered, “if you’re going to kiss me, just do it already.”
Lan WangJi didn’t need any more encouragement. He closed the remaining space between them, his lips brushing against Wei WuXian’s in a kiss that was both tender and filled with unspoken emotions.
Wei WuXian froze for a moment, surprised by the depth of feeling in the kiss. Then he melted into it, his hand reaching up to rest against Lan WangJi’s shoulder. The world seemed to fade away, leaving only the two of them, bathed in moonlight.
When they finally pulled apart, Wei WuXian’s cheeks were flushed, and his eyes were shining. “Well,” he said, his voice a little breathless, “you’re full of surprises, Lan Zhan.”
Lan WangJi looked at him, his expression soft but serious. “Wei Ying, you are my everything.”
Wei WuXian’s teasing grin returned, though his eyes were misty. “Lan Zhan, if you keep saying things like that, I might just fall for you all over again.”
Lan WangJi didn’t reply, but the way he leaned in for another kiss said more than words ever could.
