"I got out of the vehicle and asked the driver to wait for me. I was aware that I didn't have much time, but I considered this visit essential. As I approached the residence, the door opened, and Mrs. Carmen greeted me with a broad smile."
"Mr. Ignacio! What brings you here?" she inquired, with a kind and welcoming tone.
"I noticed how her gaze shifted around me, as if she were looking for something."
"And Alejandro hasn't come with you?" she asked, smiling affably. "Have you come for my daughter?"
"Hello, Carmen," I replied, trying to maintain a neutral tone. "Is Leopoldo in?"
"Yes, yes, he's in the study," she replied, pointing inside. "Please, come in."
"Thank you."
"Carmen guided me to the study, where Leopoldo was. I paused at the entrance, taking a deep breath before entering."
"Leopoldo, I appreciate you seeing me," I said, in a serious tone.
"Leopoldo rose from his chair, visibly surprised."
"Ignacio, what a pleasant surprise to see you here!" he exclaimed, extending his hand for a handshake. "Is everything alright?"
"Not entirely," I replied, aware that I had to be direct. "I need to talk to you about an important matter," I said, looking towards Carmen.
"Of course, let's talk," he invited me to take a seat. Carmen remained silent, watching attentively.
"I sat down opposite Leopoldo, aware of the importance of the dialogue we were about to engage in."
"Leopoldo, you and I have cultivated a friendship over many years, as have our families," I began, keeping my gaze fixed on his eyes. "Therefore, I want you to know how much I value you. However, there are circumstances that I cannot accept and that should not go unnoticed."
"Leopoldo nodded, acknowledging the seriousness of my words."
"That's right, and I appreciate it," he replied. "But what is all this about? What's going on?"
"The situation between our children has reached a critical point," I continued. "Therefore, the engagement is canceled."
"His expression became more serious, and I could tell that he was assimilating what I was telling him."
"Why?" he asked, feeling his voice tremble slightly. "What happened?"
"That is a matter that you will have to clarify with your daughter," I replied, maintaining a decisive and firm tone.
"Suddenly, Leopoldo raised his voice, shouting Giselle's name with all his might."
"Giselle!" his cry echoed in the study, filling the atmosphere with a dense and palpable tension.
"In a matter of seconds, she made her entrance."
"What happened, Dad?" she asked, her gaze denoting a palpable unease.
"I approached her, realizing how she stammered nervously when she saw me."
"Mr. Ignacio, what brings you here?" she said, as if struggling to find the right words to express her confusion.
"I observed her carefully and replied firmly:"
"You should know very well the reason for my presence here."
"Leopoldo, still stunned by the situation, tried to assimilate what was happening."
"Clearly, Giselle, explain to me why Alejandro is considering canceling his engagement with you," he said, his voice now sounding more intense and charged with emotion.
"She, showing a clear expression of concern on her face, replied almost instantly:"
"It's nothing, Dad, I promise you. He's just upset, but I'll take care of it."
"I watched her, feeling a deep indignation that invaded me, unable to repress my emotions."
"You're going to fix it?" I repeated with a firm voice, accentuating each word to make my discontent clear. "You are engaged to my son and, behind his back, you mess around with his brother. Do you think this is something simple to solve? Or tell me, do you really think you have the right to do this kind of thing?"
"F-Father-in-law... I didn't think about what I was doing, I just made a mistake... please, help me with your son, okay?" she begged, in a trembling voice.
"Wow, this woman really has a lack of shame. An 'error'? Sure, as if that could justify what had happened"...
"A mistake, you say?" I repeat her words with irony. "Giselle, you are an adult and you know what you are doing. An infidelity is not a mistake, but a decision. You acted dishonestly and you are aware of it."
"Giselle remained in a deep silence for a moment, her eyes were filled with tears that threatened to fall at any moment. Finally, she took a deep breath, trying to gather the necessary courage, and began to express what she felt."
"I..." her voice trembled slightly. "I recognize what I did, and I deeply regret what happened. I didn't want this to happen; I shouldn't have let myself be carried away by my impulsive desires."
"Leopoldo, with a deep concern reflected on his face, fixed his gaze on Giselle, almost as if he wanted to read her thoughts."
"Giselle, what you did is a betrayal," he said in a deep and serious voice. "Not only towards Alejandro, but also to our whole family."
"Giselle, with a broken voice and almost in a whisper, replied:"
"I know, Dad. It wasn't something I had planned. When I met Frederick, everything became confusing for me."
"Leopoldo sighed, his gaze shifting between his daughter and me, as if trying to understand the situation in its entirety."
"Ignacio, friend, please, I beg you to think it over," he said, striving to keep the calm in his voice. "My daughter acted badly, I recognize it, but this engagement is of utmost importance for both families. We cannot allow my daughter's imprudence to ruin everything we have built." He looked at Giselle again, feeling the disappointment that invaded him.
"Giselle, by his side, nodded fervently, her eyes reflecting a desperate plea."
"Please, I understand that my behavior was unacceptable, but I am here to make amends. I want to fix things. I am willing to do everything in my power to prove that I can become the woman Alejandro needs and deserves."
"The woman he deserves?" I asked with curiosity. "Unfortunately, no," I replied with a tone of seriousness.
"Even if I were to consider the possibility of giving you a chance, I must clarify that the final decision does not belong to me, but to my son."
