Episode 5

Mafalda couldn't stop watching Briana, and she felt a lump in her throat because it had been so long since they last saw each other, and her friend looked so young that she wondered if this was a dream.

"Mafalda, stop looking at me like that, you're scaring me," Briana said jokingly.

Mafalda touched her chest near her heart and it didn't hurt, and she felt it beating, as if she were alive, and despite that she was still incredulous because the last thing she remembered was dying on the way to a medical center, but this sensation was so real that she took a pencil and pricked her finger and was startled when she felt pain.

"Are you crazy?" Briana asked with concern.

Mafalda shook her head because she wasn't crazy, but she needed to verify what was happening at that moment because she was wearing her high school uniform and her best friend, who had been dead for several years, was in front of her, apparently alive.

"Briana, what day is today?" Mafalda asked with interest.

Briana rolled her eyes as she always did when something bothered her because, being a person with high-functioning autism, she had no filters when speaking and her patience was very limited.

"Mafalda, it seems that studying for the university entrance exams is driving you crazy," Briana replied.

Mafalda felt impatient because her best friend didn't answer her question, although she then remembered that it was in March of her senior year of high school when they took the university entrance exams.

"Briana, I'm serious," Mafalda said impatiently.

"Okay, today is March 15, 2000, and by the way, it's Wednesday," Briana replied indifferently.

Mafalda looked astonished because that date was 07 years before her death occurred and she began to believe that she had gone back in time, although she was worried because on that day a very tragic event occurred in her previous life, when Briana, who was very allergic to peanuts, suspiciously ate something that contained it, causing her death, and due to the investigations into this event, she was taken to the police station for questioning, losing her opportunity to take her exam and enter an elite university.

"I need to go to the bathroom," Mafalda said with concern.

Mafalda remembered that the reason Briana didn't survive was because her epinephrine was missing and when the medical personnel arrived, it was too late.

"Mafalda, don't make the teacher angry," Briana replied.

Mafalda winked at her friend, because this time she would save her best friend.

"I won't be long," Mafalda said.

Mafalda walked through the hallway of her old high school towards the nurse's office and everything was as she remembered it, however, she wondered why she had returned at that precise moment until in a secluded hallway she heard Lilly's honeyed voice.

"Is everything ready?" Lilly asked.

Mafalda remembered that Lilly in high school had a retinue of followers who did her dirty work, among them was Deyanira Gomez, who was like Lilly's right hand when it came to executing her plans.

"During recess we hid her epinephrine," Deyanira replied.

Lilly smiled maliciously because she wanted to make Mafalda lose her opportunity to enter a good university, regardless of the fact that she was putting Briana's life at risk.

"I'm glad to know I can always count on you," she said.

"I do it willingly because that usurper doesn't deserve anything," Deyanira replied disdainfully.

Mafalda finally understood why her best friend died, and she hurried because she didn't have much time and she was surprised that from such a young age Lilly was already so malicious, so she entered the nurse's office because there was a life at risk.

"Do you need something?" the nurse asked impatiently.

"My friend lost her epinephrine," Mafalda replied.

Under normal conditions, the nurse would ignore Mafalda's request, the problem is that it was an elite high school and if a student had an accident, all the school staff would be in trouble.

"Tell your friend to come and get it," the nurse insisted.

While Mafalda was trying to convince the nurse that Briana could have an emergency at any moment, Deyanira, showing her best smile, arrived handing out cookies to all the students in that classroom.

"Do these cookies contain peanuts?" Briana asked.

Deyanira looked at Briana feigning innocence, although malice was evident on her face, the problem is that Briana was unable to understand that type of social cues.

"You can eat it with confidence," Deyanira assured her.

Briana trusted Deyanira's words and took a bite of the cookie and when Mafalda arrived at her classroom accompanied by the nurse, they found the scene of Briana trying to breathe, luckily they arrived in time and the specialist administered the medicine and while they waited for the ambulance everyone watched with discomfort.

"Who gave Briana this cookie?" Mafalda asked.

No one answered her question because they didn't want problems with Lilly, or with her followers.

"It doesn't matter if you don't want to talk because everything is recorded," the nurse said pointing towards the cameras.

Mafalda remembered that in her past life her friend died because of this cookie and everyone accused her, luckily in this life they couldn't do it because she wasn't in the classroom when Briana received it.

"Lilly we're in trouble," Deyanira said.

Lilly was observing her manicured nails and smiled at Deyanira because there was no evidence that she had anything to do with this situation.

"Correction Deyanira, because the one in trouble is you," Lilly replied.

Briana's family was very influential, so the school took the incident very seriously, which is why in her previous life Mafalda was in jail for 72 hours while being interrogated.

"Lilly if I fall you come with me," Deyanira warned her.

When Mafalda arrived at her house after accompanying Briana until she made sure she was out of danger, she was greeted with reproaches from her parents.

"I hope your grace doesn't get your sister into trouble," Velasco warned her.

Matilda found the comment curious because she never mentioned Lilly's name.

"Dad, I don't understand what you're talking about," Mafalda replied.

Mafalda felt a strong slap and touched her cheek while holding back her tears because she knew she had to be patient because all these people would pay for what they did to her, this time it would be her and not Joshua the person responsible for making them pay.

Monday, March 20, 2000…

Despite Deyanira's warnings, the astute Lilly manipulated the situation so that all the blame fell on her henchman and since there was only evidence against Deyanira, she was arrested by the police while taking her university entrance exam.

"One down, little by little I'm going to get rid of all of them," Mafalda murmured.

Mafalda was full of resentment and could barely contain herself when she was with her parents or her sister.

"What did you say, Mafalda?" Briana asked.

Mafalda looked at Briana and smiled because her actions led to her best friend being saved.

"I didn't say anything," Mafalda replied.

"Lately, you've been acting strange," Briana said.

"You're imagining things," Mafalda replied.

Mafalda was very moved because she missed Briana so much that having her by her side again was very comforting.

"Sister, are you coming with me to celebrate my birthday?" Lilly asked with feigned innocence.

Mafalda remembered how devastated she was by the loss of her best friend and her dream university when Lilly invited her out and due to her mother's insistence she accepted, which was a mistake because in that place they gave her a drink with a potent drug and took inappropriate photos damaging her reputation forever.

"I don't think so," Mafalda replied coldly.

Lilly smiled because she knew that just by talking to her mother, Mafalda would end up accepting.
