chapter 10: This Psycho!

Oliver

(Flashback)

I was leaning against the side of the police office while smoking when suddenly a man appeared in front of me.

"Kuya Oliver?" she said.

"Hey, it's you Jeff." He is the younger brother of my bestfriend, but there's only a two-year age gap between us. "Don't you have classes today?"

"Ahmm, there are no classes today for all law students because our parents have a meeting due to an upcoming activity."

"Is that so? How's your brother?" I asked before finishing the cigarette and tossing it away.

"Fine," he replied and gave me a smile. "Ahmm, I mean I actually have another reason for being here, that's why I came," he added.

"What is that?"

"About the recent cases, the killings recently"

Well, I expected that for a law student like Jeff, he would really be interested in this.

"And then?" I took her to a chair near the entrance and we sat down so we could talk comfortably.

"I have a friend who is missing right now, her name is Rain Flores. She has been missing for 3 days. Maybe..." He stopped speaking.

"You mean maybe he's connected to the criminal who's killing people now?"

He just nodded. "And I have a photo of the last person he was with."

I was surprised when he said that. I looked around first to make sure no one heard us before I took him to another place.

I have long been searching for the criminal who ruthlessly kills. Everything I could possibly do, I've done, but I still can't find a suspect. And what's puzzling is that all the evidence suddenly disappears, and all the witnesses suddenly go silent.

I've also noticed that I can't trust any of my fellow police officers nowadays. It seems like all of them are greedy for wealth and power.

I'm eager to catch that criminal because...

One of his victims was my father, Tatay Armin. My dad who raised me, us in the orphanage, serving as both our father and mother since our real parents abandoned us.

We entered a coffee shop and sat near the glass wall. Jeff immediately reached for his cellphone, which contained the picture he was talking about.

"It's not very clear because it was a fiesta that day. The one in the black jacket is Rain, and the person with him was the last one he was with the night he went missing. I also confirmed it was him because the day after that night, Rain called another friend of ours and said that he was at that guy's house," Jeff recounted.

While staring at the photo, I remembered a familiar face.

Yes, that's him. Vince Lim. His family is one of the most influential in the Philippines. And I also knew him during our elementary days.

"I know him, he's Vince Lim," I said. I looked at Jeff's face. He was just staring blankly as if lost in thought while looking at the photo.

"Vince Lim, I know him. No wonder his face looked familiar that night," he suddenly said.

I sighed.

"It would be better if you don't get involved for now. I didn't say to hide it from the police, but just don't mention to anyone that I know about that photo."

He just nodded.

"I will make sure we find your friend, and we will bring them home safely. Also, all the victims in our town will be given justice."

Kite couldn't do anything when I showed him the photo from Jeff. He just sat back down and took the picture.

"Because when we find this Rain and discover that this person took him and killed Father Armin, we will catch that criminal and bring justice to all the victims."

He is Kite Mendez, my childhood friend, who became my boyfriend, who is now my ex, and the owner of the bar I am sitting in now.

"I know this person so well, even if they were beheaded. This psycho..." his angry rant.

Another memory suddenly popped into my mind while facing Kite.

I still remember we were in 6th grade back then and twelve years old.

Kite and I were facing a boy who was about our age. But just by the way he dresses, it's obvious he comes from a wealthy family.

"Oliver and Kite, this is Vince, he will be staying with us for a few days because his parents temporarily left him here," introduced Tatay Armin to us of Vince. Vince Lim.

And because we were the oldest in the orphanage, we were the ones assigned to take care of Vince. At first, we didn't feel anything unusual about him; he was a cheerful and lively child, a normal and simple little boy who did nothing but play like us. Until... A week passed, and his behavior and actions became weird; sometimes he would laugh or talk to someone else, and he would wake up at midnight just to draw strange things using crayons. Because of that, all the children in the orphanage are afraid to face Vince, including me, who has a strong sense of bad vibes, but...except for Kite who still shows kindness to Vince.

Then everything changed that night, in Vince's last night at the orphanage.

It was raining heavily that night. While I was coming out of the bathroom, I saw Kite going up the stairs. I immediately followed him and he brought me to the top of the orphanage building. I found two more people there, and one of them was Vince along with another girl, Miran, one of the kids at the orphanage and who was a bit younger than us. They were just standing near the edge of the building, where a small step would make you fall, soaking wet. I immediately hid when I saw the three of them. I noticed they were arguing, but I couldn't hear them well because of the loud noise of the rain. I saw Vince hand a white paper to Kite; it was one of Vince's paintings, but it was no longer very visible because it was getting wet. But just a few seconds later, I was surprised when suddenly.

Suddenly, Vince jumped, and he grabbed Miran. I could clearly see the shock in the girl's eyes; she didn't expect that event.

Because of that, the two of them fell from the building of the orphanage.
