The tension in the air lingered long after Vikram's departure. Aradhana sat in the café, her mind racing. What had he meant by those words? The way he had spoken about Reyansh’s family, about secrets, left her with more questions than answers. She couldn’t shake the feeling that something sinister was looming over them, and she was standing on the edge, about to step into something far deeper than she ever anticipated.
Mohit sat opposite her, his eyes narrowed in thought. "Aradhana, you need to talk to Reyansh. This isn’t something you can ignore. If there’s a secret about his family, it might be the key to everything that’s been bothering you."
"I don’t know, Mohit," she replied, her voice tinged with uncertainty. "What if Vikram is just trying to manipulate me? What if he’s making all this up to stir trouble?"
"I don’t think he’s lying," Mohit said seriously. "Vikram might play games, but he’s not the type to invent things out of thin air. You know him better than that."
Aradhana rubbed her temples, the headache creeping in again. "I just don’t understand why Reyansh hasn’t told me anything. Why does he keep hiding his past from me? We’ve been through so much together already, but this... this feels different."
Before Mohit could respond, her phone buzzed on the table. She glanced at the screen, her heart skipping a beat when she saw Reyansh's name. It was a text.
Reyansh: Can we meet tonight? I need to talk to you.
Aradhana’s stomach fluttered, and for a moment, she hesitated. She had been trying to avoid confronting him, but after everything that had happened, there was no way around it now. The knot in her chest tightened. She had to know the truth.
She looked at Mohit, her decision made. "I need to meet him. I can’t avoid this anymore."
Mohit gave her an encouraging smile. "You’ll figure it out. Just... don’t let him get away with anything. You deserve to know the full story."
Later that evening, Aradhana found herself waiting at a quiet park bench near her apartment, where she and Reyansh had shared so many moments in the past. The sun was beginning to set, casting an orange glow across the horizon. The soft rustling of leaves in the evening breeze did little to calm the storm brewing inside her.
When she saw him approaching, her heart skipped a beat. Reyansh looked different tonight—his usual easygoing demeanor replaced with a visible tension. As he neared her, she stood up, not sure what to expect.
"Aradhana," he said softly, his voice laced with worry. "We need to talk."
She nodded, her eyes searching his face for any hint of what he was about to say. "What’s going on, Reyansh? Why have you been keeping so many things from me?"
Reyansh hesitated, his hand running through his hair in frustration. "I didn’t want to burden you with it, Aradhana. But I can’t keep lying to you. You deserve to know everything, even if it hurts."
"Then start from the beginning," she said, her voice firm. "Tell me about your family. Tell me what Vikram meant when he said there were things I needed to know."
Reyansh took a deep breath and looked around, making sure no one was eavesdropping. "It’s complicated. My family, Aradhana... they’re not who you think they are. My father—he’s involved in some things that I wish I could change. I’ve tried to distance myself from it all, but it’s hard when they hold all the cards. And Vikram... he’s not lying. There are things I’ve kept from you, things I couldn’t share because I didn’t want to drag you into my mess."
Aradhana felt a surge of anger and confusion. "So, what? You thought you could just hide all of this from me? Keep me in the dark and expect me to accept it when everything comes crashing down?"
"Aradhana, please," Reyansh pleaded, his voice desperate. "I didn’t want this for you. I didn’t want you to be caught up in my family's drama. But I can’t keep running from it. It’s part of who I am, and you have every right to know. My father’s business dealings—they’re shady. He’s been involved in some illegal activities for years, and I’ve been trying to sever ties with him. But every time I try to break free, he pulls me back in."
Aradhana’s heart raced as she absorbed his words. "What does this have to do with me, Reyansh? Why didn’t you tell me sooner? And why is Vikram talking about all this now?"
Reyansh's eyes darkened. "Vikram has his own agenda. He’s been involved in some of the things my father’s been doing. And I think he’s trying to manipulate you—trying to get under your skin and turn you against me."
"But you’re not telling me everything, are you?" Aradhana said, a cold chill running through her. "There’s more to this, isn’t there?"
Reyansh didn’t answer right away. Instead, he took a step closer to her, his expression filled with remorse. "There’s one more thing, Aradhana. Something I should’ve told you a long time ago. It’s about my sister, Neha."
Aradhana’s pulse quickened. "What about Neha?"
Reyansh’s gaze faltered, and for the first time, Aradhana saw a flicker of fear in his eyes. "She’s not just my sister, Aradhana. She’s the key to everything. My family’s secrets—everything that’s been going on behind the scenes—it all connects back to her."
Aradhana felt a sense of dread build in her chest. "What are you saying, Reyansh?"
He took another deep breath, his voice barely above a whisper. "Neha is more involved in this than you realize. And if you keep pushing for answers, you might find yourself in a situation where you wish you hadn’t asked."
The words hung heavy between them, and for a moment, all Aradhana could do was stare at him in disbelief. What was he hiding? And why did it feel like the walls were closing in around her?
"Reyansh, what aren’t you telling me?" she whispered, her voice trembling.
But just as he was about to speak, his phone rang. He glanced at the screen and his face went pale. "No... this can’t be happening now."
Aradhana’s heart pounded in her chest. "What’s going on, Reyansh?"
He swallowed hard, looking at her with a mixture of fear and regret. "I don’t have much time. I need to go. There’s something I have to fix before it’s too late."
Before she could say another word, Reyansh turned and rushed off, leaving Aradhana standing alone in the park, her mind spinning with unanswered questions.
