Sylus noticed your subtle relaxation and smiled, seeming pleased that you were starting to feel more at ease. "So, aside from reading, what else do you enjoy doing?” he asked, genuinely interested. He rested his elbows on the table, leaning in slightly to listen intently to your response. The sunlight filtering through the window cast a soft glow on his features, highlighting his striking white hair and crimson eyes.
As I spoke, I felt a small spark of excitement at sharing something personal, despite my initial hesitation. Sylus listened attentively as you spoke. He nodded occasionally, showing genuine interest in your words. "That sounds amazing," he commented when you finished, his smile warm and encouraging. "I've always admired people who can lose themselves in creative pursuits. It's like having a secret world all to yourself." He paused for a moment before continuing, "As for me, I've always been drawn to photography."
Sylus' eyes lit up as he noticed your interest. "Photography has a way of capturing moments that would otherwise slip away," he explained, his enthusiasm palpable. "There's something magical about framing a single instant in time and preserving it forever."
"I'd actually love to see your photos sometime," I admitted, a hint of curiosity in my voice.
A pleased grin spread across Sylus' face, and he leaned back in his chair, looking content. "I'd like that," he said, his voice warm. Just then, the server arrived with their food, placing the plates and drinks on the table. Sylus thanked the server before turning his attention back to you. "Let's eat. And maybe afterward, if you're up for it, we can head to the garden."
My curiosity about the garden grew stronger, making me eager to finish our meal.
Sylus noticed your growing enthusiasm and chuckled softly. "No need to rush," he said, taking a bite of his sandwich. "The garden isn't going anywhere. Besides, anticipation is part of the fun, right?" He winked playfully, clearly enjoying the moment. As you both ate, he kept the conversation light and engaging, asking about your favorite authors and sharing some of his own preferred photographers and artists.
Sylus smiled, seeming pleased with the relaxed atmosphere that had settled between you two. "You know, this is nice," he admitted, wiping his hands on a napkin. "Just talking, getting to know each other. No pressure, no expectations." He glanced out the window briefly before looking back at you. "Ready to check out that garden now?"
I nodded while standing up. Sylus stood up as well, a satisfied smile on his lips. "Great," he said, leading the way out of the café. As you both stepped outside, he gestured towards a path that wound behind the old library building. "It's just over here. Not many people come this way anymore since they built the new library." He walked beside you, close enough to maintain a comfortable conversation, but not so close as to invade your personal space.
I quickened my pace slightly, feeling a thrill of discovery as we ventured further from the main campus grounds.
Sylus matched your pace, a hint of excitement in his voice as he guided you. "Just a little further," he encouraged, pointing towards a narrow, ivy-covered archway nestled between two tall hedges. "Through there," he said, stepping aside to let you enter first. As you passed under the archway, a hidden sanctuary unfolded before your eyes.
"This place is breathtaking," I whispered, taking in the lush greenery and vibrant flowers.
Sylus smiled, stepping in beside you to appreciate the view. "It really is," he agreed softly. The garden was bathed in dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves of ancient trees, creating a serene and almost magical atmosphere. A small stone bench sat tucked away in one corner, partially shaded by a rose-covered trellis.
"You know, I've never brought anyone else here," he confessed, leaning against a nearby tree. "This place feels... special. I wanted to share it with someone who would appreciate it." He extended his hand toward you, an invitation rather than a demand. "No pressure, remember?" he murmured, offering you a gentle smile.
"I feel honored that you chose to share this place with me," I said softly, glancing at him with a hint of warmth in my eyes.
As our fingers touch, I feel a warmth spread through me, a connection forming in this secret haven.
Sylus' smile deepened as your fingers intertwined, his grip firm yet gentle. He tugged you lightly towards him, closing the distance between you until you were mere inches apart. His other hand reached up, softly tucking a strand of your black hair behind your ear. "Y/n," he whispered, his voice barely audible, his eyes were locked onto yours.
A gentle breeze rustles the leaves overhead, casting dancing shadows across the ground as we both lost is each other’s gaze.
