A year has passed since the appearance of the Rift. Those gifted with powers capable of fighting are called Slayers and are ranked from F (the weakest) to SSS (the highest class). The government has established an academy to teach the use and mastery of powers for combat purposes.
As for me, I am at the Slayers’ University. Today is my first day, and I hope to finally get a girlfriend.
University President: "Welcome, students. As you know, it has been a year since the Void Rift appeared, along with its monsters. Fortunately, the Rift also brought the Talkine, allowing us to access mana and facilitate its flow. Thanks to this, we’ve managed to defend ourselves, though we still know nothing about the Rift’s origins. We must continue to grow stronger to protect humanity and survive. Only 80% of the population can access the Talkine, and out of the remaining 20%, only 9% manage to develop it over time. We must protect and support one another for humanity’s survival. I’m counting on you!" (Applause)
Instructor: "Alright, we will now conduct tests to place you into different classes, ranging from F to SS. For now, we lack the resources to train or manage triple-S students. Let’s proceed to the testing hall."
(In the testing hall)
Instructor: "Here, we will evaluate your abilities. First, we will measure the amount of mana you possess. To do this, simply touch the crystal, and we will determine your element. You’ll take turns."
Student #1:
"Yes, Instructor." (Touches the crystal)
Instructor: "Fire element, mana capacity: 2500."
Instructor:
"Student #2: Wind element, mana capacity: 2700.
Student #3: Fire element, mana capacity: 2000.
...
Student #77: Keldis Yeger, Dark element, mana capacity: 7000." (Students murmur: "Wow, a rare element and a mana capacity of 7000! What a genius.")
...
Instructor:
"Student #85: Milim Stigner, Lightning element, mana capacity: 7900." (Students murmur: "Another genius! And she’s beautiful too. She’s definitely going to Class S.")
...
Instructor:
"Student #95: Douriel Kinés, Light and Earth elements, mana capacity: 10,000." (Students murmur: "What’s going on? I didn’t even know that was possible. This guy must be exceptional.")
Instructor (thinking): "Douriel looks promising. This generation is going to accomplish great things."
Instructor: "Finally, Student #99, Diopha Hitari."
Diopha: "Yes, that’s me! Do I just touch the crystal? Should I add my mana too?"
Instructor: "No need, just place your hand on it." (Thinking: "This boy can already manipulate his mana?")
Diopha: "Alright, Sensei." (Touches the crystal, and a bright light blinds everyone.)
Instructor:
"You have Wind magic."
(Students whisper: "All that for wind? I’m disappointed. What a pity.")
(Instructor continues): "Wind magic, Lightning magic, Light, Dark, and even a minor affinity with Fire. With training, you could master Fire magic to the same level as the others. In summary, you possess five elements and a mana capacity of 30,000." (Everyone is stunned.)
Diopha (thinking): "I already knew this, thanks to my video game abilities. I was aware of their stats, but apparently, they don’t have the same skills as me or any kind of analysis feature. However, they’ll probably develop new abilities in the future. I need to figure out how to block their view of my stats. To do that, I’ll need to enhance my abilities and unlock their full potential."
Student: "Wait, isn’t that Artemis?"
Another Student: "Yeah, that hair, that handsome face, and that not-so-athletic body—it’s definitely him!"
Douriel: "Hey, Diopha!" (Hits Diopha on the head)
Diopha: "Who just hit me?"
Douriel: "Calm down, bro. Don’t you recognize me? It’s Douriel."
Diopha: "No, sorry."
Douriel: (Sighs) "What if I reminded you that the great Artemis used to steal meat from the sauce as a kid, and his mom always caught him?"
Diopha: "Arghhh! Douriel, my guy! How have you been? It’s been ages!"
Douriel: "Finally, he remembers. Yeah, I’m good. It’s been, what, four years now?"
Diopha: "Yeah, you’ve changed a lot. I still remember when you used to cry and hide behind me. People really do change."
Douriel: "Of course, and now I’m glad to have found you again, brother. Let’s team up, bro."
Diopha: "Wesh."
Milim: "Hey guys, how’s it going?"
Diopha (thinking): "Ah, a girl is talking to me! This is my moment. I have to charm her."
Douriel: "Oh hey, Milim! Long time no see!"
Diopha: "You know her, Douriel?"
Douriel: "Yeah, and so do you."
Diopha: "Me? Hmm, I don’t remember."
Douriel: "She’s our childhood friend, Milim."
Diopha: "Milim the tsundere? Impossible. Back then, she had massive oppai, and these look pretty average."
Milim: (Punches Diopha’s head) "You never change, do you?"
Diopha: "Ouch! That punch is familiar, Milim. But why is the world so cruel? Where did your big oppai go? They were so glorious. Unfair world." (Falls into mock despair) "Alright, new mission: find the missing part of your chest. But first, can I touch them to see, Milim?"
Milim: (Slaps him) "You pervert! My chest hasn’t shrunk; it’s just the outfit, baka!"
Diopha: "How dare you! I’m not a pervert; I’m just a lonely guy starved for affection and single for years, sniff."
Douriel: "You know, bro, you actually want to be in a relationship."
Diopha: (Clicks tongue and glares at Douriel)
Douriel: "Don’t look at me like that. I’m just telling the truth. You’re a total catch, but when girls approach you, you reject them, saying you’re not in love and don’t want to hurt them. You insist they deserve someone who loves them back."
Diopha: "But it’s true. Don’t you think so, Milim?"
Milim: "Well, you have a point, but on the other hand, you should try it at least once. Anyway, let’s continue this later—we’ve reached the simulation combat room. Time for serious business."
