The Mafia Don's Second Chance
Episode # 2
Cigars burned lazily in ashtrays, the smoke curling in the air, mixing with the low hum of murmured voices.
MARCO VIKTOR (ML)
*he sat at the head of the table, his sharp eyes scanning the room, his mind was elsewhere*
The doctor's words echoed in his head more vivid than any business conversation or threats from rivals.
He clenched his jaw now, trying to focus on the matter at hand, but his thoughts kept slipping back to that sterile office, the doctor delivery the news.
VINCE FEIN ( Marco's underboss/ Friend)
*he cleared his throat, snapping Marco from his reverie*
Boss?
MARCO VIKTOR (ML)
*he blinked, slowly returning to the present, the faces around him waiting*
There was concern in Marco's eyes, the others watching him carefully.
VINCE FEIN ( Marco's underboss/ Friend)
What is wrong? You seem so distant.
*he asked*
MARCO VIKTOR (ML)
*he sat up straighter, his eyes narrowing, he forced a smile*
Nothing. Just... something on my mind.
His men weren't convinced. Vince exchanged a glance with the others, sensing something deeper, but no one dared to press.
VINCE FEIN ( Marco's underboss/ Friend)
*still, sifted forward in his chair, leaning toward Marco*
Are you sure, boss? If something's wrong...
MARCO VIKTOR (ML)
*his eyes flickered to Vince for a brief moment, the lie didn't feel like enough, his gaze hardened*
I'm good. It's nothing. Just...a bad night's sleep.
*he inhaled sharply, standing up from his chair*
Meeting's over for today. I'll be in my office. We'll talk later.
There was a brief silence, the men exchanging glances, but they knew better than to argue. They rose, murmuring their goodbyes as they left the room.
VINCE FEIN ( Marco's underboss/ Friend)
*for a moment, his gaze lingered on Marco with concern, but even he knew when to step away*
Marco waited until the door shut behind them, he remained standing in the center of the room.
Slowly,he moved to the window.
MARCO VIKTOR (ML)
*let out a quiet breath, then ran a hand through his hair, staring at out at the city below*
The thought of never having children, never passing on his name, left a cold ache in his chest.
The bus was nearly empty, the soft hum of its engine mingling with a low murmur of distant concessions.
At the back, near the window, Angela cradled her Five-year-old son in her arms.
His small body was limp, his breath steady and deep in the peaceful sleep of a child who had known only too many restless nights.
ANGELA (FL)
*her fingers gently brushed the soft curls on his forehead, as if to reassure herself that he was safe*
Beside her, Kate stood in the aisle. She had helped in the quietest way with money, enough for a bus ticket, enough to get her away, away from him.
KATE (FL's manager/Bestie)
Remember, you don't have to do this alone.
*she whispered, glancing at the little boy's sleeping form*
I'll be here when you need me. I'll...
ANGELA (FL)
I know.
*she interrupted softly, her voice breaking despite herself*
I'll be fine. I just...I just need to get away. Somewhere far. Somewhere...safe.
KATE (FL's manager/Bestie)
*she hesitated momentarily, then leaned in, pressing a kiss of Angela's forehead*
You're strong. You've got this. You deserve better. Both of you.
The bus's wheels squealed slightly as it slowed for an upcoming stop.
KATE (FL's manager/Bestie)
*she gave her one last tight hug before pulling back, she nodded her voice steady*
Take care of him, okay? And take care of yourself.
ANGELA (FL)
*she managed a small shaky smile*
I will.Thank you for everything.
As Kate stepped off the bus, the doors slid closed with a hiss.
The bus lurched forward, and she watched as Angela disappeared into the dim streetlight, with teary eyes.
