chapter 6-GUILT

Chapter 6 (Reign’s POV)

The silence was unbearable. Liliana had barely acknowledged our confession, and the tension between us was growing thicker by the second. Ethan stood beside me, just as lost as I was, both of us searching her face for any sign of emotion. But there was nothing.

"Why... why are you so quiet?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper, as if speaking too loudly would make everything worse. The words felt like a heavy weight on my chest. My fingers shook, and I felt a wave of guilt crash over me. What had we done? What had we become?

Liliana looked away, her eyes distant, as if she were looking at something far beyond the walls of the kitchen. Her face was unreadable. No anger, no tears—nothing. It felt like she wasn’t even here with us. Ethan’s eyes were wide, searching for some kind of response, but it was as though Liliana had shut herself off completely from us.

“Liliana,” Ethan said, his voice desperate, his hands outstretched towards her. “Please, say something. We... we never wanted to hurt you. We didn’t mean for this to happen.”

She didn’t respond. She didn’t even blink.

A hollow feeling settled in my stomach. I reached out for her, wanting to hold her, wanting to make things right. But how could I, when everything had already fallen apart? I was the one who had pushed us down this path. I had betrayed her, and now she wouldn’t even look at me.

“I’m so sorry,” I whispered. “I know I messed up, I know I hurt you. But please, don’t shut us out like this. Don’t shut me out.”

Still nothing.

The room felt suffocating, the air thick with tension and regret. Ethan stood frozen next to me, his face pale. I could feel the weight of his guilt, the same guilt that gnawed at me. We had betrayed her, both of us. And yet, there she was, standing in front of us, as though she didn’t even care enough to be angry.

I didn’t know what else to say. I felt like a coward, standing there, waiting for her to break the silence, but she didn’t. She just stood there, looking out the window, as though we weren’t even in the same room.

"I know this is hard to understand, but..." I started, trying again, trying to explain, but words failed me. Nothing I said could undo what we had done.

Liliana turned away from us, her body stiff. “I need to go lie down,” she said, her voice flat.

I watched her walk away, my heart breaking with each step she took. She wasn’t even angry, just... empty.
