Kim Eun-Jung froze.
The name was all too familiar personally to her and to her memories. Images she knew were not her own flooded her brain, making her experience every single emotion she knew was not hers.
A tear slipped by involuntarily due to the roller-coaster of emotions that now settled within her. Every single grievance she felt made her heart ache. This was a foreign feeling. All her life, Kim Eun-Jung has been busy either studying or doing something related to her studies. She had never been free to do what others did, her life and memories had all been work-related.
Never had she experienced all those memories that now settled in her head. Kim Eun-Jung knew that the memories were not hers. All these scenes, she knew happened. They did happen because she was the author. She wrote them in her book Sparkles of love and the memories she held weren't the protagonist's. They belonged to Kim Eun-Jung, the antagonist of her novel.
This realization sent a cold chill down her spine. She turned her head to look up at the elderly man in front. She recognized him from memories she knew didn't exactly belong to her. He was the dean of H-City hospital.
Her face serious and voice cold, she asked, "Which city is this?"
The girl wanted to know if it were as she had assumed, then the answer would be-
"Cheol City."
With the doctor's words, her body went rigid. She knew her hypothesis was right. She was indeed in the novel. Kim Eun-Jung had transmigrated into her own book.
From her memories, she could tell that the last scene she had experienced was exactly as she had edited in her draft. That is, except in her novel, originally the antagonist had fallen off the building and died, but that was before she edited the draft. In her newly edited draft, the two had not yet gotten into the building. So how had the antagonist died?
Holding her head, she recalled a scene where she felt someone push her. It was Kim Ju-Won, the female protagonist who had pushed her off. To save herself, she tried to reach out to the female lead, who also inexplicably ended up falling off.
How was it possible that she had gotten into her own book?
What she remembered from memories of her own was her encounter with the fortune-teller. Kim Eun-Jung recalled her handing her the death card, then she left, heading to her car. After that, she felt the sudden change in the air and the card glowing. She also thought of the meteor shower before her collision with the truck. Might all those occurrences be the reason for her transmigration?
The dean, keen, noticed her distressed look. Immediately, he dismissed the board to give the girl some space. After they had left, the older man walked closer to the girl, a little worried about her.
"How long have I been passed out?" She inquired, looking at the doctor.
"You weren't just passed out, you were dead," he spoke slowly, hoping he wouldn't scare the child.
"I was dead, for how long?" Kim Eun-Jung asked, wanting l to know the timeline she had been knocked out.
"About two weeks and a day now," uttering his own words, the dean couldn't believe them. He was talking to a resurrected person. But how?
Fifteen days she was dead. The girl lifted her hands, her fair skin had bruises caused by damage to the skin tissue due to injection or piercing. Kim Eun-Jung knew by the marks, they had drawn blood out of her. Images of times she'd donated blood for the Kim family resonated in her head. This wasn't the first time. With the memories, she could feel her heart shutter, but she wasn't the kind to show her emotions. She remained unfazed.
"What about the Kim family?"
The dean halted, unsure of how to answer. The Kim family did not even bat an eye after she was pronounced dead. Would they care now that she was alive? Under her scrutiny, the old man knew she read him like an open book. She could see through his visage.
Of course, they didn't care. After finding out about her death, they didn't want anything to do with her. The patriarch had even asked the hospital to dispose of the body. They had Kim Ju-Won, their long-lost precious heiress.
The dean couldn't do it. He couldn't just improperly dispose of her body. The dean, due to his past relations with her, stalled a bit as he contemplated preparing a proper send-off.
In her mind, she tried to think. Where was she going to go? She knew no one around. Of course, she didn't. This was Cheol, a make-up city she'd just randomly thought of before adding it to her novel. Kim Eun-Jung did know though that she had to find a way through, she couldn't stay with those green-eyed people that used and tossed her aside immediately after using her.
She was now part of the plot. Kim Eun-Jung knew if she weren't careful, her fate would just be the same as the original owner's, the real character. She didn't want to end up dying in her own novel. It had to change, her plot had to change.
The girl contemplated where she would stay after her discharge. It would be unreasonable to keep on staying at H-City hospital. Thinking for a while, a long thought popped into her head, this was something she hadn't exactly pinpointed on before. If she recalled correctly, it was in the same hospital that the original owner of the body was born before she was swapped at birth.
So, the hospital probably had details of the original owner's parents. When she was writing her novel Sparkels of love, she had not majored more on the female antagonist as the novel was mostly about the two protagonists, Kim Ju-Won and Yoon Min-Hyuk. To think of it, she had never really added any details about the antagonist's birth parents. She had to find them if they existed.
Kim Eun-Jung's thoughts were disrupted by someone clearing his throat. She looked up to see that the doctor was still in the room. He looked at her still a little baffled, the young mistress's demeanor seemed to have changed, she was now composed and spoke little.
"Doctor, can I get details about the other women aside from Nam Jang-Mi?" she asked.
The dean looked at her astounded. This was actually the first time he heard the girl call her adoptive mother by her name. He knew who she was referring to, she referred to the Lady of the Kim family. However, what he took an interest in was her first words. She wanted a record from seventeen years ago.
Privately, the dean had also wondered, but she hadn't dared to dwell his thoughts there. He wasn't one to poke his nose. Nonetheless, it didn't mean he wouldn't. The girl was born seventeen years ago and due to a mishap, the hospital switched the two newborns. That was a mistake that had never occurred before. Because of that, he, together with the hospital, were indebted to the Kim family and the unknown family that was Eun-Jung's family.
I'll arrange it for you," he promised earnestly.
His words made Kim Eun-Jung genuinely smile. He was the only one who truly cared about her. If only there was a way to get him out of Kim Beom-seok's grasp.
After the encounter, the head dean decided it was best to leave the girl to herself.
For someone like her, accepting such scenarios was totally unbelievable. This time she didn't think it was only her. Anyone who would be in her place, she was sure, would never make sense of this. Kim Eun-Jung took a deep breath, leaning back in the comfort of the bed her mind made up. She was not going to suffer the fate of her character. Kim Eun-Jung was not going to let anybody bully her. She was going to fight back.
