Episode 1

THe soft rays of the morning sun filtered through the sheer curtains in Tanu’s room. She lay curled up in her bed, clutching her blanket tightly, as the sound of her mother’s voice echoed through the room.

“Tanu! Wake up, beta. You’ll be late for college!” her mom called out, gently shaking her shoulder.

Tanu stirred, groaning softly. “Just five more minutes, Maa,” she mumbled, burying her face in the pillow.

“No excuses! You’ll have to get up now,” her mom insisted, pulling the blanket off her. Reluctantly, Tanu opened her eyes, blinking against the sunlight, and dragged herself out of bed.

She completed her morning routine—a quick shower, braiding her hair neatly, and dressing in a simple hoddie and jeans. By the time she reached the kitchen, the smell of freshly made parathas filled the air.

“Here, have your breakfast,” her mom said, placing a plate of paratha and achar in front of her.

“Thanks, Maa,” Tanu said, eating quickly. Before leaving, she called out, “Bye, Maa! Bye, Papa!”

Her father looked up from his morning newspaper, nodding with a smile, while her mother waved her off. Her elder brother and sister were still asleep, enjoying the luxury of a late start.

The college was just a short walk from her house. The path was lined with trees, and the air felt fresh and cool. As she approached the college gates, she spotted her best friend, Priya, waiting for her under their usual spot—the big banyan tree.

“Good morning, sleepyhead!” Priya teased, grinning.

Tanu rolled her eyes. “You sound just like Maa. Couldn’t you have been a little more sympathetic?”

“Nope. Someone’s gotta keep you on your toes,” Priya replied, linking her arm with Tanu’s as they walked towards their classroom.

They chatted about their day ahead, assignments, and the latest gossip. Priya, always the more outgoing of the two, loved teasing Tanu about her quiet nature.

“By the way,” Priya began with a mischievous glint in her eyes, “have you ever thought about talking to someone interesting online?”

Tanu looked at her, confused. “What do you mean?”

“You know, there’s this app where you can chat with people from all over the world. It’s really fun!” Priya said, pulling out her phone and showing Tanu the app.

Tanu frowned. “Are you crazy? You know how strict my parents are. They’d never allow it.”

“They won’t know unless you tell them. Don’t worry, it’s just for fun. Who knows, you might meet someone cool,” Priya said, nudging her.

Tanu hesitated but couldn’t ignore the spark of curiosity that Priya’s words ignited. “I don’t know… I’ll think about it.”

As they entered their classroom and the lecture began, Tanu found herself wondering about the app Priya mentioned. Little did she know, her life was about to take a turn she could never have imagined.
