CITY L,
Ethan drove towards the villa, which he got as a graduation gift from his elder brother. He never stayed even for once because he never came here or got any chance to stay back but this time it's different.
"Welcome Back Sir. The room has been cleaned and furnished. Do you want to take a bath first or should I ask the kitchen to cook something light for you?" The housekeeper Chen, immediately welcomes Ethan with cheerful eyes and a grinning face.
Housekeeper Chen, in his late fifties, after knowing about Ethan's arrival prepared the master bedroom and asked all the servants to stand in a line to welcome him.
Ethan nodded at him and slowly said, looking at the crowd of servants behind housekeeper Chen, "I'll take a shower. Just send a black coffee to the study. And no need for so many people to be around. Madam does not like crowded places."
"Sure, Sir." Housekeeper Chen immediately replied. Ethan walked inside the villa and strode upstairs towards the master bedroom.
He took off his shirt and stepped into the bathroom to take a shower. The staff came upstairs bringing his luggage.
Ethan stepped out of the bathroom, dressed neatly in a black pant and a white shirt while drying his wet hair with the towel when his phone on the coffee table buzzed.
He sits in a slightly casual manner on the couch before answering the call.
"Hello," Ethan said, continuing with the drying.
There was silence for a second; Ethan lifted his eyes and looked at the screen; it was an unsaved number.
"Where have you been these past few days? Ethan, Don't you think you are pushing me too much just because I don't want to get settled down just now? What's so good about getting married?"
Hearing the sneering, shrill voice of a woman, Ethan immediately recognized her. It's Diana.
At first, Ethan did not answer her calls. Later, he just blocked her number and deleted her U Chat ID from his phone.
Turning back to look, is fine but one should not go back to repeat the same mistakes. Ethan knew this fact and the unspoken rule of moving on.
"You have gone too far this time, Ethan. You even froze my cards and confiscated the car. Who do you think you are to treat me like this? Do I, Diana Gomez look like I lack such things in my life?" Diana scoffed and kept hurdling mean words towards him when Ethan unhurriedly cut her in.
"Then why are you calling me and telling me about these irrelevant things if these don't matter to Miss Gomez? And about the cards, then if I can freeze them, it means they are mine, so why should I explain to you why I stopped my cards?"
He spoke unhurriedly, carrying a hint of oppression in his tone of voice making Diana have second thoughts about Ethan's true thoughts.
This kind of tone Ethan never used in front of Diana, no matter the mess she made in the past; it was always a cold but not distant tone.
"You don't have to find ways or use such methods to call me. I won't bother with you anymore. I'll let you have the freedom that you were yearning for. You should be happy that I won't be an obstacle in your life with fun and entertainment. Don't call me again." After saying this Ethan resolutely hung up the call and put the contact number in the blacklist.
Knock
The maid entered, put down the coffee mug on the table, and turned around to leave. In the room, there was only silence and Ethan. He did not touch the coffee, the wet towel hanging from his hand as his back hunched forward, his mind deep in thoughts and scrutiny.
HIS POV,
I didn't know, just for what I was trying to hold onto all these whole five years. It sounded a bit ridiculous to even imagine that someone could waste five years on someone who did not even care or appreciate them.
Jordan and Isaiah had told me many times just what I was trying to do by doing such stupid things. Well sometimes, I also want to know what I was trying to do.
Maybe I was trying to preserve the memory of the young girl trying her best to save me, encouraging me to not give up.
Maybe I was trying to let the girl I imagined stay alive in my memories because she changed a lot or...was different from what I imagined her to be from the start.
Maybe I was just stubborn and did not want to think that the girl who was like an angel to me was so different in real life from what I had countless times pictured her.
Diana was nothing like the young girl who saved me twice. She is unruly. She is rude to everyone regardless of the gender and age. She does not care about anything but herself. She often scoffed at those girls who were well-behaved and helped their elders, commenting that they were just hypocritical women who pretended to be good and virtuous just to gain something out of it, unlike her who is transparent and says whatever is in her heart but she does not know that those words can sum up as- insulting.
Jordan and Isaiah advised me to just forget about her matter and not waste my time on such a woman who entirely stayed in nightclubs, drinking, smoking and changing boyfriends as she changed her clothes but I was adamant to not give up so easily.
It was not until, the night I decided to send the last message to her, asking her to get married. It was the last stubbornness I was left with.
After the night passed and a new day began, I realized how wrong I was. I was just trying to keep the image of the girl I painted in my mind, keep her alive near me, with me, and I refused to see the reality which was different from the so-called dream I was chasing after.
It was truly exhausting.
It was exhausting to keep a person alive who had never existed in front of me aside from breathing in my memories.
