CHAPTER NINE.

 " Jace! Alex! Get your asses down here!" Cain yelled from the living room.

 Alexander nearly dropped the cup he was holding. He quickly hid behind the door and watched as Cain's face flashed through a mirage of colors.

" Dad." Jason walked down and stood in front of Cain.

" Where's that--"

" Dad did something happen?" Jason asked, successfully diverting his father's attention.

" What the fuck did you chaos duo do? Do you know what you've done?!"

" No not really, and I probably won't get to know if you keep shouting at me like that."

" Take a good fucking look at this!" Cain shoved his phone at Jason.

 Jason took the phone and frowned slightly at the headline before playing the video. The more he watched, the more annoyed he became.

" No matter how terrible the relations between our two family are, you two can't go around, bashing people's head."

" Why not?" Alexander walked out from his hiding spot with a slight frown.

" You fucking little--" Cain raised his hands. Alexander's was stunned. He quickly cowered and shut his eyes close.

 " Dad!" Jason's eye shrank, and he dragged Alexander behind him.

" What are you yelling at me for? It's not like I was really going to hit him. Why are you being all overprotective?" Cain lowered his hand. " If you had cautioned him properly, the situation could have been easy to stable, but he had to add salt to the injury, and send the son back to the father. You spoil him too much!"

" I didn't do anything wrong. If it was left to me, I would have beaten the living daylight out of him."

" Say that again!" Cain shook with pure rage.

" First the father tries to trap us and make us sign a fake contract, now the son goes around, insulting you and big brother. I take a lot of shit from people, but I also have a bottom line. I shouldn't have stopped at a wine bottle." Alexander said darkly.

" Fake contract?" Cain frowned " when was this?"

" Couple of months ago. That motherfucking bastard came to the company with a very ridiculous contract. Brother was able to see through it and we had a fallout with him. He threatened to sue us for defamation or some shit but I told him off." Alexander folded his arm across his chest.

" it's nothing to worry about." Jason spoke up " if the Kingston really want to go to war with us, I'll gladly welcome them with open arms."

" You two.... you're just... forget it." Cain turned around and walked out while lamenting " I came here with such high spirits but they both shut me up with a few sentences. Brothers indeed. They'll be the death of me."

  Alexander stepped out and stood beside Jason. He lowered his head with guilt and started pondering.

" Don't be foolish." Jason said " if you do anything to the Kingston's heir, they'll come after you and won't stop till you're dead."

" I wasn't planning on doing any--"

" Save it. Your thoughts are always surfacing on your face."

  " Brother! Hurry up." Alexander yelled from the ground floor.

 Ever since the day he was able to convince Jason to go to the aquarium with him, he had been floating on cloud nine. Even though he knew Jason only agreed because the date chosen was a day to his birthday, Alexander was still happy. He even got them matching, brothers outfits.

" Alright let's go." Jason walked down the stairs. He was putting on a light blue polo with ridiculous cartoon figures strewn on it and a dark-colored jeans. He had a black head warmer on and a pair of black sneakers.

" Would have been better if your hair was as long as mine." Alexander commented.

 " I look ridiculous."

" No fucking way. You look like my dashing, handsome, elder brother."

" You going or not."

" let's go, let's go!" Alexander dragged Jason out.

 The two brothers walked out of the car and approached the gate. The blue building was way too bright for Jason, and he frowned slightly.

" What's wrong?"

" Nothing. Just a bit too bright." Jason said and went to the ticket booth. He brought out his card and was about to hand it over, when his phone rang.

 " I'll handle it." Alexander took the card from him. Jason nodded and left.

 After getting the tickets, Alexander ran out to find Jason. He found his brother standing a bit far away, under a tree. Jason's entire body was shaking and even the hand holding up the phone felt heavy. Alexander ran towards him.

" Brother? What happened?"

 Jason looked at Alexander, the rims of his eyes, pure red. He opened his mouth but he couldn't say anything. Alexander panicked and took the phone from him but the call had disconnected already.

" A.. Alex... Dad..."

" What happened to Cain?"

" He's in a coma." Jason managed to squeeze out " they... they said..."

" Calm down. Let's head over first." Alexander held his shoulders and guided him towards the car " I'll drive."

  Alexander sped all the way towards the city's central hospital. Jason somehow snapped out of his trance and led them to the doctor who called.

" Mr Petrov." the middle-aged man called out

" Dr Calvin." Jason walked up to him " where's my father?"

" He's in a private room, but I think it's best if you don't visit him for now." the man replied.

" Why can't i?"

" He's in a coma. A vegetative state."

 Alexander reached out and held his brother steady. He didn't really understand what was going on, but seeing Jason's reaction, he knew it was a life_threatening situation.

" Jason, I don't think I need to explain to you what a vegetative state is." the man sighed softly as he patted Jason's shaking shoulders " Mr Petrov's chances of waking up are below ten percent. He suffered acute brain damage,and we already took his blood for testing. I could have called sooner, but I wanted to know the result of the surgery before calling you. Even though we were able to save him, a vegetative state is no different from death. We're keeping him on life support for now, but if he shows no sign of waking up after the first six months to a year, his chances of ever waking up again, might drop to below five percent."

 Alexander's heart went cold. He stared at Jason who looked like his entire world fell apart in a single night. He was trying to stay strong but his dilated pupils and pale face, told Alexander a different story.
