Alexander groggily woke up while wincing in pain. His head hurt like crazy. He slowly opened his eyes and tried to adjust to the room lighting. A constant 'beep' sound kept irritating him and he slowly tilted his head towards the direction of the sound.
His body was connected to multiple machine and for the first time, he noticed he was putting on a gas mask. Unflinching, he yanked the mask off and took a deep breath. He turned his head and scanned the room. Everything was bland and white.
The door swung open and Cain walked in. upon laying eyes on the awoken Alexander, he smiled and walked towards the bed.
" Still in pain?"
" A little." Alexander replied and tried to sit up. Cain helped him and placed the pillow behind him.
" How do you feel?"
" Like a dying man." Alexander groaned. Cain nodded and raised his hand, bringing it down hard, at the back of Lucien's head.
" The fuck man!" Alexander held his head.
" Why did hell did you jump in front of that bullet? Who takes a bullet for a stranger?"
" You tell me! My body moved faster than i could think, it was instincts! Why the fuck will I take a bullet for you, let alone two?! At this rate, even the position of executive won't cut it. I should ask for the position of chairman instead." Alexander kept on lamenting while holding his ringing head.
He has been asleep for three days straight and his slim figure looked even slimmer than before. The thin hospital gown and IV drip connected to his left hand, made him look pitiful yet mesmerizing at the same time.
" Forget it." Cain waved it off " just get better soon. I have a better offer for you."
" Don't sugar coat it too much. Only the position is chairman can be called a better offer." Alexander glared despite his blinding headache.
" Really?" Cain raised an eyebrow " Not even the position of the chairman's son can be called a better offer?"
" I told you not-"Alexander's eyes grew wide.
" I'm adopting you as my second son. " Cain felt satisfied with Alexander's dumbfounded look " you already met my son, Jason. He'll be your elder brother from now on."
" El... Elder brother?"
fuck it can't possibly be that guy with blue eyes right? I mean they do look alike...
" So what do you say?"
" I.... Why would you adopt a grown up teenager who's a trouble magnet just because he took a bullet or two for you?"
" Too many questions. I already made the procedures and all I need is your answer."
Alexander was baffled. Why would a billionaire like Cain want to adopt a street urchin who doesn't even know his own background? Even though he wants to have a proper roof over his head and live a comfortable life, Alexander was torn.
" I..." the door swings open and a tall figure walked in.
" Dad."
" Oh Jason why are you here?" Cain turned around and raised an eyebrow.
Jason stood at the door for a moment before walking in with a fruit basket. " I came to drop this off."
" Ah alright. I'll be at the office in a while." Cain said. Jason nodded and turned towards Alexander.
" Thanks for everything. One more thing."
" What?" Alexander asked with a small voice.
" It's foolish to block two bullets for a stranger." Jason said and nodded at the two before walking out.
The room was silent for a few seconds before Cain burst into a laughing fit. Alexander was furious at the father and son duo.
" That little bas-"
" Hey his father's standing right here." Cain said " So have you thought about it? Give me an answer already."
" Only a fool would reject such an offer from one of the richest men in the country." Alexander deadpanned.
" Good, Good. We'll get you discharged in a few days."
" How about tomorrow? I hate the smell of hospital."
" This is a VIP ward, there's no smell apart from flowers and incense."
" Tomorrow. One more day here, and I'll lose it."
" Alright then."
Two Days later, Alexander has all his stuff loaded from his apartment and into a flashy black car driven by Cain. They drove off from the suburbs and towards a mansion at the end of the city.
" What's with you rich people and mansion?" Alexander murmured " Would it kill you to build a normal house?"
" It's rich people's mentally, we have to always show off our wealth." Cain laughed " Besides, this is a family mansion. It was built by my grandfather of six generations ago."
Cain pulled up in front of the gate and pressed a button on the dashboard. The giant black gates, opened automatically and made way for them. They drove along a long road lined with trees and flowers of different kind before stopping in front of a white colored mansion.
They got off and a few maid and two butlers walked out of the house and bowed slightly.
" Help him take his loads to the room I prepared." Cain said and guided Lucien inside.
The mansion was pure white, both in and out. Though not overly huge and gigantic, it was big on the inside. The living room was far too spacious with a huge silver chandelier hanging from above. The room was lined with different white sofas and a side table each. A young man was sitted on one of the chairs, his earphones blocking out all sounds. He kept adjusting his glasses and his face was scrunched up in a frown as he stared at his laptop.
" Jace." Cain called out.
Jason snapped his head up and took out his earphones. His hair was still wet and his bangs were down.
" Dad." Jason stood up and greeted.
" Again with the games." Cain grumbled before dragging Alexander forward " Meet your new younger brother, Alexander."
" My new brother?" Jason frowned " Dad what is this about?"
" I adopted the little rascal so from now on, he's your younger brother. You have to take care of him and look out for him properly. He is your new responsibility now but I'm sure you two will get along just fine."
" It's a joke right?" Jason asked in a dark voice " You didn't adopt him right?"
" Why would I joke about this?"
" You adopted a street urchin from nowhere, brought him home without informing me beforehand and you expect to accept it?"
" And what's the issue?" Alexander asked in an equally dark voice " Street urchin? You've been sheltered and cared for your whole life so you know nothing about the world. Don't act like we orphans are not human just cause we we live in the streets and try to fend for ourselves while fighting for our lives as well. Being a rich, spoilt, second generation heir with a weak backbone, what gives you the right to insult me? You think you're qualified to talk to me like that?"
