Tuesday Afternoon, better than a Monday morning but not quite different, it was already afternoon and lunchtime. Students flodded the Cafeteria waiting to discuss their whole period with their friend everyone but Nathan who was unfortunately called by his homeroom teacher to her office for a 'chat'
So here he is, Nathen, the star athlete and sat confidently in his teacher's office, expecting another round of praise and accolades. But when Mrs. Johnson dropped the bombshell
"Nathen, you're failing my class" - his smirk faltered.
"'What?! That's impossible!" exclaimed, his voice laced with disbelief and a hint of arrogance. "I'm the one who always participates, who always volunteers for extra credit!'
"Mrs. Johnson sighed, her expression firm but sympathetic.
" Nathen participation isn't enough. You're not putting in the effort, and your grades reflect that."
Nathen's face reddened, his eyes flashing with indignation.
" You must have made a mistake!"
As the reality began to sink in, Nathan's demeanor shifted from shock to defensiveness.
" It's not my fault! The material is boring, the assignments are stupid..."
Mrs. Johnson leaned forward, her tone firm but gentle.
" Nathen, this isn't about being the "good kid". It's about taking responsibility for your learning. You need to step up your game, or you'll be facing serious consequences."
Nathen's expression darkened, his ego wounded. He stormed out of the office, muttering under his breath, 'This isn't fair.....'
Nathan stormed down the hallway, his face red with indignation. He had just been called out by his teacher, Mrs. Johnson, and he couldn't believe she hadn't recognized his 'exceptional' abilities.
As he turned a corner, he collided with Jayden, who was lost in thought, staring at his phone.
"Watch where you're going!" snapped, shoving Jayden aside.
"I Should be telling you that" Jayden jabbed in stopping Nathan on his tracks turning around to see the being that just spoke to hin
"Do you know who you're talking to?" He asks threateningly staring up at him and the honest reaction on his face was that of 'Do I look like I care?'
"-Or you're just pretending?" he walked closer the height difference prominent as Jayden stared down at him
" Am I supposed to know?? " Jayden answered with a question. Nathan was taken back at that looking in unbelief he stared up at the boy whose eyes hide under his messy bangs
" You're kidding?"
"Look, next time when you're walking use you eyes to see and legs to walk" Not leaving room for response Jayden walked away as Nathan stared him his face reddening with each passing second.
"Sup Nate" Nathan's friend, Calvin, patted his shoulder in greeting only to have his hand swatted away in anger before Nathan stormed off and as his loyal best friend Calvin followed him.
He was heading to the Cafeteria, but he stopped at the doorway
"Y'know that kid?"
"What kid?" Calvin asked truly clueless, Nathan turned around after taking breaths
"It's nothing" He shakes his head putting on a smile
"Nah, don't try to fake it dude, you're obviously mad tell me"
Calvin placed his hand on his shoulder while Nathan looked away he can't believe he lost his cool because of some goth kid or something, it's embarrassing
"Nah I'm good man, just Mrs Johnson failing my class again"
He ran his hand through his head Calvin rose a brow in question.
"What's her deal? I'm sure you nailed that text" Calvin supported his friend like always, Nathan nodded in agreement
"My thoughts exactly, ugh whatever I'm sure Madison will make me feel better plus I'm starving"
"Yeah a hungry man is an angry man"
He chuckled swinging his arm around Nathan's shoulder who was now smiling like he won a lottery or something
"Yeah, that must've been it" he grinned.
