Episode 2: The Back Room
Setting: It’s been a few days since Jin Ae moved in, and while Seo Joon mostly keeps to himself, the strange quirks in the apartment only grow. Jin Ae’s curiosity about the mysterious back room intensifies, especially after the cryptic message he left.
[Jin Ae’s Chat with Friends]
Jin Ae
It’s been a few days, and this place just keeps getting weirder. He barely comes out, but I swear he’s around.
Mi Na
Are you seriously telling me you haven’t even tried to peek in that back room?
Dong Hoon
Do you want to get caught snooping? He could be hiding, like, a laser-security system in there or something.
Jin Ae
Look, he left a note practically telling me to mind my own business, but… I can’t help it. It’s like the room is daring me to open it.
Jin Ae is in the living room, browsing her phone, when she hears a soft creak from the hallway. She tenses, realizing it’s the door to the back room. She glances over, and in the dim light, sees Seo Joon standing there, his eyes fixed on her as if assessing her reaction.
Seo Joon
(quietly) Couldn’t sleep?
Jin Ae
(startled) Oh! Yeah, I was just… scrolling through some messages. (pauses, then blurts) What’s in that room, anyway?
Seo Joon
(expression unreadable) Let’s just say it’s… personal. Nothing you need to worry about.
There’s a long pause before he finally closes the door, and Jin Ae watches him walk down the hall, disappearing into his own room. The air feels thick with mystery.
[Jin Ae’s Inner Thoughts]
Jin Ae stands there, feeling more curious than ever. She tries to shake off the nagging urge to investigate but ends up sneaking a glance at the back room door. It’s locked tight.
Jin Ae’s Inner Thoughts: I mean, if it’s so personal, why did he pick the only apartment in town with shared living space? Doesn’t he realize that sharing is kind of implied?
With a sigh, she heads to bed, vowing to ignore the mystery for now…or at least until she has a reason not to.
[The Next Day – An Unexpected Encounter]
The next morning, Jin Ae decides to venture out to the nearby coffee shop. She steps inside, grateful for the break, only to notice someone familiar: Seo Joon, sitting quietly at a table, sipping a coffee. He hasn’t noticed her yet, looking almost peaceful—different from his usual guarded demeanor.

Jin Ae
Guess who I just spotted outside of “mysterious roommate mode”?
Mi Na
Oh my god, what’s he doing? Brooding with his coffee?
Jin Ae
Exactly! But he seems… normal? I almost didn’t recognize him.
Mi Na
You should say hi! Break the ice, you know? See if he’s secretly normal outside of your apartment.
[Jin Ae Approaches Seo Joon]
Jin Ae takes a deep breath and walks over. Seo Joon looks up, surprised to see her.
Jin Ae
Didn’t expect to see you here! I thought you mostly stayed… well, inside.
Seo Joon
(pauses) I like the quiet. And… I didn’t think you’d be awake this early.
Jin Ae
(laughs) Guess we’re both surprising each other today.
They share a brief, almost comfortable silence. Seo Joon seems to relax a bit, and Jin Ae wonders if maybe, just maybe, he’s not as closed-off as she first thought.
