Alora couldn't get a wink at night. She kept thinking of the kind young man that walked her home. He had been so nice, and her spirit had been disturbed.
She decided to get some water and on her way to the kitchen, she found her six years old sister, Allison, drinking milk.
"Allie, how long have you been awake?"
"Long enough to know that you roll over 43 times in two minutes."
Alora went to the kitchen tap to fetch some water. Allie was smarter than kids her age. "Who was that man that escorted you home last night?"
"How do you know?"
"I am not stupid. Tell me."
Alora walked to the table, dropped her cup of water and stared at her sister. What was she supposed to tell her? 'I met a kind man who walked me home.'
"He is a friend." She mused under her breath.
"I see. Why haven't you introduced us to this friend?"
"God, Allison." Lora said, drowning down her cup of water and Allison snickered. "You mustn't know everything."
"Fine, fine." Allie stood up and gazed outside the window.
"Aren't you going back to sleep?"
"No, I have insomnia. It isn't easy sleeping."
"Sure. How can I help?"
"Just go to sleep, and I will help myself."
"Are you sure?" Alora had always been worried about her sister's sleeping.
"Yes, I am." Allie didn't look back at her sister.
Alora stood up, kissed her sister's cheek and went back to bed. Tomorrow was Saturday, and she was staying at the café from seven in the morning till nine at night. She had to save as much energy as possible.
Alora woke up, feeling groggy and distorted, but she had work to do. She wore a pink gown and a blue sweater. Maybe her satin bow will complement her eyes.
They were gifts to her by her grandmother as well as the pair of diamond earrings. If she wore them today, it would bring good luck and surely please her grandmother's spirit.
Those two things were very important to her and had immense value. How her old granny got the money to buy it was still a mystery to her.
She wore her cover shoes and hurried to the dinning table where she met her parents.
"Joeun Achimieyo, Omma" Alora said, rushing to the table and drinking her coffee.
"Good morning to you, Lora. I told you, no Korean in the house. Just English. I understand that you are learning it but the house rules state don't use foreign languages"
"Yes, Mum. I have to hurry to work."
"Alright. Go, go, go."
"Greet Dad for me." Alora ran out of the house and walked to the cafe. She placed her earphones in her ear and let Jungkook's voice ease her mind and she began humming.
She swung the café doors open and her friend, Leslie Bertelli, waved at her.
"Someone's in a good mood." Leslie said, dropping her mop stick and walking to Lora.
"Jungkook's voice puts me in a good mood." Lora pulled the earphones out of her ear and dropped them in a drawer where she kept her bag.
"A cutie with black hair and green eyes came earlier to look for you." Leslie said, after hugging Lora.
"Did he leave any message?" Lora inquired.
"No, but he said if you come around, that 'Ace' had come."
Oh." Lora whispered and wore her apron. "What time did he come?"
"Pretty early, around 6 am. Is there something wrong?"
"No, not at all." Lora answered and began cleaning tables and counters.
Lora and Leslie were the only waitresses at the café and Lora was quite happy with her job, is not as if another one will drop on her lap.
