Chapter 15

They finally stopped crying, and only their breathing could be heard. Until Heather spoke

“You know Rick did all of that. He swapped your report with a fake one. It wasn’t even believable”

Robert took a deep breath to calm down since he started feeling like his blood was boiling again.

“It’s okay, I just want you to relax and we will get our revenge. They may think they won the battle, but here, there is a greater war happening. I would cut their hands if I could…”

Heather slightly smacked his hand so he would stop talking like that - they were still in the police station after all.

They got up and fixed their uniforms, which were a bit wrinkly because they were sitting and looked at each other.

Robert ruffled her hair and smiled.

“You got such puffy eyes. They are a bit red. They don’t even deserve your tears, I so wanna make them cry-“

He felt a smack on his back. More like a soft punch.

“First off, I will make them cry and then we can continue together. Don’t forget we are a team… Officer Robert.”

She had a slightly twisted smile, but Robert didn’t mind. He loves all her sides.

“Yeah yeah, you can do the honor by starting, and I can finish them off, Miss Heather”

A grin was also on his face. He hugged her for a second, opened the door, and pushed her outside.

"Go out there and give it everything you've got- Own it, Beast! Show the world just how unstoppable you really are, and I will watch over you from behind, I will be your shadow!"

She smiled and then turned her head.

“Thanks Robert, don’t forget, though. We are together on this, so you walk beside me”

The smile then fainted and started walking towards her office. She definitely didn’t want to show others a weakness.

“This woman will be the death of me. I really hope everything will be the same after the true would be revealed.”

He still wondered if the truth behind his lie would change everything, but he decided to put those thoughts aside and enjoy the moment.

He got out of the storage room, closed the door, and also headed to his office. As he was about to sit, he got a notification on his phone.

He opened it and saw who the sender was. He paused for a moment and then looked towards Heather that had already started working on a report.

“Hey I’m gonna make a phone call really quick, I’ll be right back, okay?”

Heather looked at him and nodded her head.

“Sure, why would you even ask permission for this?”

He turned around and got out of the building. He went to the smoking area and lighted up a cigarette.

He took out his phone and called his dad.

“Jackson we need to talk about Sam. We must find his killer, don't forget he also tried to kill your uncle.”

Robert -or better Jackson - took a puff of his cigarette and touched his forehead.

“I know, dad. I will talk it out with Heather, too. After all, this is our case.”
