A month passed, and like always, no one cared about Heather.
And then the bell rang, having the teacher come in the classroom with a smile on his face.
"Good morning class, today I have an announcement to make. Ahem, ahem, please come in Jackson. Come, come, it's a great classroom they will love you."
Jackson came in looking partly anxious and partly happy.
"Yea, right, they will love you."
She mumbled. Since she was talking from experience.
Jackson turned his head and looked over to Heather, confused.
"Excuse me, theacher, i want to sit next to the girl at the back, may I ?"
There was no chance that polite speak wouldn't work on the teacher. And it worked.
"Wel, aren't you polite. Sure you can. Have a nice school year, Jackson. "
He went at the back, slowly approaching Heather, and then he stopped when he reached the desk.
"Hey there! I'm Jackson. It looks like I'm your new deskmat-"
" Let me stop you right there. You won't even want to talk to me at the end of the day, so don't waste your time here. "
She cut him off very quickly since she didn't want any attachments. In the end, he would only add up to the people who think she is an orphan.
He didn't finish what he wanted to say and just sat down.
"Feist, huh? I like it..."
He thought to himself, thinking that they would be great friends. Jackson wasn't the type to get swayed easily by rumors, and indeed, he wasn't.
A day passed and then a week leading to 2 months. Jackson stayed by her side, not talking much since that was what Heather seemed to want.
"Good morning, deskmate... How is your day so far?"
She wanted to avoid him. He could be playing with her but...he did stay with her for a long time. At least longer than anyone else.
"Good morning to you too, im good... thanks, i guess."
She said while thinking it was a bad idea, since it would attract attention. But it was her first time talking, so she wanted to continue.
" How is yours...."
Jackson was shocked. Then his face immediately looked happy.
" Im good. Isn't this our first conversation. Im tearing up. I-is this real life?"
" Ok, do you want me to stop talking from now on."
"Nah ah, wha- how could you even say that after you first spoke to me?"
They both laughed and talked for a little more.
But someone's happiness is someone else's hatred. In that case, it was jealousy. Whispers started after the incident between the two deskmates.
" Does he not know?"
" Ugh, how could he be her friend?!"
And they went on and on. They weren't even once kind to her, and they couldn't accept that the new kid would have the orphan as his first friend.
The next day came, and Heather wanted to wake up super early to enjoy the morning breeze. She reached school and sat at her desk with her head down.
She didn't expect anyone this early, and she was for once comfortable in a classroom.
Creak...
The door opened, and Heather didn't know who it was.
"Hmm-hmmm, mmm, and it's new. The shape of your body is blue, the feeling I've got. And it's ohh, whoa... Ahhh!
Jesus, i-is that you, Heather, look, is not what you think. "
She didn't respond, thinking that pretending to be asleep would put him at ease.
"Perhaps he doesn't want others to know he is singing? Nice voice, i guess...." She thought to herself.
He was suspicious whether she was sleeping or not, but he went to sit next to her anyway.
