After Heather went home, she transferred all the photos to her laptop and sent them to Robert.
"This is all the photos, but as always, something is missing. The killer is way too careful for a murder. Anyway, get some rest, and i will see you tomorrow at the office. -Heather"
After she sent them, she took a bath and then laid down. And then she started thinking about the murders.
There was a secret that Heather was hiding from Robert. She had severe anxiety and suffered from insomnia. It was a miracle that she got accepted in the job without anyone finding out, not even Robert.
She wondered if their dreams would be shattered while trying to uncover the dirty work of certain people or if they would manage to reach the top together this time.
She slept with these thoughts in her mind.
As they say, if you think about something all the time, you will eventually dream about it. In Heather's case, though, it was a nightmare and the reason that kept her up the nights.
The start is always the same. It's midnight, and after a couple of minutes, she and Robert start running away from something or rather someone.
After all the running, the person takes out a gun, pointing at Heather, and then Robert dies, trying to protect her.
That's what usually happens, a nightmare that she never dared to tell Robert.
Today was different, though. They both started running, but no one died. They still ran a lot, but no one pointed a gun.
Until they reached a door.
"Hey Robert, what's up-"
She tried talking to him, but he disappeared into thin air. It was incredible weird how her dream changed today. Nothing special happened, and that made her even more anxious.
Right when Robert left, a door appeared. She opened it, and inside were old memories of her in her middle school years.
"Why would my school years come up now ?"
A look in the past
Middle school. A time period that she was still a kid, and unfortunately, Heather's parents died around that time.
Jessica, Heather's mom, suffered from cancer. She tried to fight until her last breath, leaving the world with a smile while looking at her beautiful daughter.
She was a gorgeous woman that everyone loved. She had long brown hair that she would let down. Golden-green eyes would always shine while looking at the sun.
That's the woman, Max, Heather's dad, fell for. Soft black hair that Jessica would always play with and ocean blue eyes that she drowned in them from the very first moment .
Heather inherited Jessica's beauty and her dad's hair and eye color.
Lovely parents that worked a lot in their life until... Jessica's illness. Max tried hard to keep going for their daughter, but it eventually made him sick, too.
Jessica died when Heather was 10 years old and her dad after 5 months.
All the money they gathered ended up going to Heather to at least be comfortable financially. Since she was still very young, she never mentioned the money to anyone keeping them hidden for her future.
News about her parents' death spread like wildfire at her middle school. Heather didn't want their pity, so she acted tough. Actually, though no one pitied her, instead they didn't even care about her.
Who would want an orphan as their friend? They felt ashamed even at the thought.
And just like that, Heather became an outcast feeling empty.
But it wouldn't be for long....
