Episode 9

Confused and still unsure what to do after seeing such a heartbreaking fact, Novan's pride as a man was deeply hurt by Diana. What more could Novan have given her? He had showered his beloved girlfriend with money and gifts.

Yet, now Novan received such a painful response, even though he had never asked for anything unreasonable from his girlfriend. He had even maintained his purity, never crossing the line physically, because Novan wanted to save that for when their relationship was blessed by marriage. But Diana had given herself to someone else, simply because the other man seemed wealthier than Novan.

Diana seemed to have forgotten all of Novan's kindness. Her family never had to buy rice because Novan always provided for them every harvest season, and his generosity didn't stop there. Indeed, he was a selfless young man, thinking they would become a family one day.

Now, Novan was at a loss for what decision to make. He wanted to break up but still loved Diana. On the other hand, he was devastated by her infidelity, which had crossed the line. The fact that they had gone as far as sleeping together was what pained Novan the most.

"Why do you look so gloomy?" asked Erik, his old school friend.

"It's nothing, just a lot on my mind about life," replied Novan, lying about his distress to avoid raising suspicion from his cousin, Purnama, if he were to visit her.

"Don't overthink it, bro!" Erik said casually while taking a drag from his cigarette.

"What would you do if your girlfriend cheated on you?" asked Novan, looking at his friend.

"Black magic!" Erik replied, bursting into laughter.

"Are you serious?!" Novan was quite surprised by his friend's answer.

"Of course not! If she cheats, just find someone else," said Erik, afraid that Novan might believe he was involved in black magic.

Novan sighed again because matters of the heart weren't easy. If the love wasn't deep, it wouldn't hurt so much. But when you truly loved someone, the pain was profound, making it difficult to even consider another woman. That's what Novan was feeling because his love for Diana was immense.

"What's going on with your relationship? Did Diana cheat on you?" Erik asked seriously.

"Maybe I could forgive her if it was just an ordinary affair, but they... they slept together," Novan confessed, his heart aching.

"Who told you that?!" Erik shrieked in shock.

"Nobody told me. I saw it with my own eyes," Novan replied.

Erik felt faint imagining Novan witnessing such a hurtful scene. He knew how shattered and wounded Novan must be, as everyone knew how much he had loved Diana for so long. Their four-year relationship was about to crumble due to Diana's terrible, money-hungry actions.

"You've spent so much money on her, Van," Erik lamented, feeling sorry for his friend's predicament.

"Material possessions don't matter to me. I'm just trying to mend my broken heart," Novan murmured, his head downcast.

"That woman is a disgrace! That's what happens when you're lazy and would do anything for money!" Erik fumed.

"What should I do now? On one hand, I want to forget her, but damn it, my heart still longs for Diana!" Novan expressed his frustration with his own feelings.

"That's because you've just found out. It's better to calm your mind first," Erik advised, trying to soothe his friend's turmoil.

If Erik were in Novan's shoes, he would have undoubtedly gone on a rampage, especially considering how much of Novan's wealth Diana had already consumed. She was utterly ungrateful for hurting the man who was so sincere to her and her family.

"Find me a powerful black magic practitioner!" Novan demanded.

"Hey, don't be crazy, Van! I was just kidding. Please don't do anything rash," Erik panicked.

"Then what should I do to find peace? I can't accept being treated like this," Novan groaned, rubbing his face roughly.

"I'd rather be your drinking buddy than accompany you to find a black magic practitioner," Erik muttered, regretting his careless words.

Ting.

Novan's phone buzzed with a message from Diana, but he didn't open it. He was still angry and hurt by her actions, as she hadn't considered his feelings at all.

…****…

Diana frowned, annoyed by Novan's unusual behavior of ignoring her call. He had never ignored her for even a second. Diana felt deeply loved in their relationship because it was evident that Novan's love was much greater than hers. After all, if Diana truly loved him, she wouldn't have cheated with Beno.

She was merely in love with his money. Being with Novan gave her everything, and yet she was still ungrateful. Diana couldn't stand being ignored. She wanted to ask for two million rupiah to go shopping with her friends in the city.

"Beno won't give me any more money, and I only have three hundred thousand left," Diana complained in frustration.

That amount wouldn't be enough for a trip to the city. If she had more money, she could show off in front of her friends. Refusing their invitation wasn't an option either, as they would clearly see her as a poor girl with no money.

"Mom, I need money," Diana said, approaching her mother who was chopping vegetables.

"What for?" Bu Hasnah looked at her youngest daughter.

"My friends invited me to the city for a hangout. I don't have any money," Diana replied.

"If you don't have money, then don't go. Why force yourself?" Bu Hasnah retorted.

"Just give me five hundred thousand, Mom. I'm your responsibility!" Diana snapped angrily at her mother for refusing to give her money.

Bu Hasnah sighed heavily. All Diana did was spend money and refused to work for an income. Bu Hasnah only had money because Deni or Ria would give her some from their salaries, but Diana was always asking for more.

Diana stormed into her mother's room and began rummaging through the cupboard. There had to be some money hidden somewhere; her mother must be keeping it from her.
