Episode 4: Birthday surprise

I woke up to my alarm blaring. Stretching, I yawned and swung my legs over the side of the bed. My birthday. I had almost forgotten. As I climbed the stairs, I was met with balloons and a banner reading "Happy Birthday, Leo!" My mom and dad stood smiling, holding a cake with candles lit. "Surprise!" they chimed.

Friends congratulated me at school, and teachers wished me well. But Luna was absent. I tried calling her during lunch, but she didn't pick up. Assuming she was busy, I sent a text: "Hey, where are you?" No response.

After school, I invited Luna to my birthday party tonight. She picked up after a few rings. "Hey, Luna. It's my birthday today," I said. "Happy birthday, Leo!" Luna's voice was subdued. "Thanks. I'm having a party tonight. Want to come?" I asked. "Uh, yeah...I'll try," Luna replied hesitantly.

But Luna didn't show up. The next day, I asked Luna, "What happened? You said you'd come." Luna's eyes dropped. "Sorry, Leo. Something unexpected came up." I sensed there was more. As we parted ways, I noticed Luna's wrist wore a beautiful, intricate silver cuff.

"Luna, that's beautiful," I said. Luna's eyes sparkled. "Thanks, I...uh...got it from my aunt." I wondered about the story behind the cuff. Luna seemed distant, preoccupied. "What's wrong, Luna?" I asked. "Nothing, Leo. Just family stuff," Luna replied. I wasn't convinced.

At lunch, I sat with friends, but my mind wandered to Luna. Why was she distant? What secrets was she hiding? As I walked home, I pondered Luna's mysterious behavior. Little did I know, Luna's secrets would unravel soon.

As the days passed, Luna's behavior became increasingly puzzling. She'd smile, then quickly look away. Her laughter seemed forced. I sensed a deeper struggle. I vowed to uncover the truth, to help Luna overcome her secrets.

One afternoon, while studying together, Luna's phone buzzed. She glanced at the screen, then hastily excused herself. "I need to take this," Luna said, rushing out. I followed, curious.

Outside, Luna spoke in hushed tones. Her words were indistinguishable, but her tone betrayed worry. I retreated, not wanting to intrude. Luna's secrets were complex, intertwined. Patience was key.

Days turned into weeks. Luna's behavior remained enigmatic. But I refused to give up. Our bond strengthened, despite the mystery surrounding her.
