The graduation ceremony felt like a victory lap. I'd finally escaped the clutches of Economics, my nemesis, and the bane of my existence. My arch-nemesis wasn't even there to witness my triumph. It was a sweet, sweet freedom. I could finally breathe easy, knowing I'd never have to face him in a lecture hall again.
A year later, my parents announced their plan for my future. "We've found the perfect match for you," my mother declared, her eyes twinkling with excitement. I groaned inwardly. This was the part I dreaded. My parents had been on a relentless quest to find me a suitable spouse since I turned twenty.
My heart plummeted. The man who had made my life a living hell with his constant teasing and competitive spirit?
The meeting was scheduled for the following weekend. I spent the entire week rehearsing my escape plan. But as I sat across from him, his face softened by a genuine smile, I realized something had changed. He wasn't the arrogant, condescending jerk I remembered. He was... charming.
