Chap 5: Haunted Mansion

Chap 5:

The sun slowly sets, and we arrive at the so-called 'Haunted Mansion', and everyone feels just about ready to head in.

Well, maybe except for Collin. I can't really tell about him he always looks tired.

And maybe Raven as well...

As for me.... the moment I stepped foot there, my entire body was getting goosebumps. I held on tightly on my umbrella as if hugging it like a teddy bear.

Though, as I look at Raven, it seems she's having it worse than me. She's completely shaking and sweating all over.

Freya approaches me and says, "I'm sure you'll do good on your first day, sweetheart." It seems that she knew I was nervous and decided to comfort me.

But thanks to her words of comfort, I eventually gather my courage and go with the rest.

As we approach the doors of the mansion, I still feel a little bit of the uncertainty within me, but just like what Freya said, I'll do my best. Besides, they'll protect me, right...?

Gray slowly opens the doors to the mansion, and what we see inside is nothing but mist at first.

Before taking a set foot inside the home, we try to make out what was inside the mist at first, but all we saw were silhouettes of furniture.

Xander heads in without hesitation, and the mist dissapates into thin air. As the room inside finally clears, we finally get to see what was inside the mist.

From what I saw, everything looked cleaner and not messy for something abandoned.

"It's just as I thought. Everything has already been changed." Said Freya.

Xander tells everyone to split up, except for me and Raven. "Since you're new here, Amelia, you and Raven can go explore the rest of the mansion together." Said Xander.

"Or...do you want me to accompany you instead?" He said. But I'd rather be stuck with Raven even though she's absolutely scared right now than be with some... weird... guy....

I declined him and went to another part of the mansion with Raven. Me and her walked through a corridor full of paintings. Now that I see it, everything actually does look brand new.

These paintings were full of landscape and people in them, though they looked beautiful....They gave off a strange presence, but I decided to pay no mind to it as to keep my composure. Though, as I look towards at Raven....

She was clutching her weapon, which was a sword, but she kept shaking and getting easily scared by things.

"Hey -" but before I could finish, she freaks out and screams, "EEEKK WAS- WAS THAT......" she falls down on her knees, but I calm her down, saying that it was just me.

Raven gets embarrassed and apologizes to me and slowly gets back up. I sigh and tell her that it's alright and that we should keep moving.

As we kept moving, we eventually left the corridor full of paintings and saw a staircase leading upwards. Seeing there was no other way to go, we used the staircase instead.

We eventually reach the second floor, but Raven clings onto the railings of the stairs.

"Raven-!? What are you doing!? We have to do our job!" I yelled out.

"I-I'm sorry!.. I just feel so n-nervous........."

She said. But I told her, "If you keep doing that, I'll have to leave you behind." Of course I knew Raven didn't want that, so she slowly let go of the railings.

We continued moving forward on the second floor, and we eventually saw a room where the door was already open. We checked inside, and it looked like it was an office. But it looked like no one had actually investigated this room yet.

Me and Raven decide to investigate the office and see if there's any useful information inside. Though... why was the door open?

Raven looked through the bookshelves while I looked through the table. The table had beautiful craftsmanship, though I did expect it since this place is a mansion after all.

Raven accidentally knocks a book off the shelf, which causes her to scream once again. But I thought nothing of it and continued looking through drawers.

Suddenly, as I opened one of the drawers, I found a book inside. It was old and was covered in a lot of dust. I brushed some of the dust off and realized it was someone's journal.

"Raven, come take a look at this." I said as she slowly walked over to the table and looked at the journal hesitantly.

"February 2, 1956, The day the construction of this house finally finished.

After all the challenges and hardships I had to face to make my way to the top, I am truly honored at how far I've come."

This was on the first page of the journal

"February 12, 1956, my wife and child and I have become accustomed to living here, and my wife enjoys it very much."

There were happy photos on the second page, but.... all of the faces are crossed out.

We kept flipping page after page through the journal, but Raven and I only saw some happy memories inside until....

"September 4, 1968, the neighbors keep making trouble around my home and making loud noises, and it has been getting very annoying for the past few weeks..."

"January 16, 1969, I haven't been writing much due to the stress I've been handling for the past few days, I've been getting so paranoid at all those faces... they keep coming back... spreading rumors and lies and backstabbing me."

"February 29, 1974, My wife left me and took our child. She said I was going mad and that the paranoia had been getting to my head. She's just like the rest..... they are all just envious of my status..."

The more we flipped the pages, the more it just started to get even more grim, and suddenly, there weren't any dates showing up anymore.

"They.... they're all just jealous, that's why....... that's why they left me...... they all want this...... THEY'RE ALL JUST JEALOUS"

That's where it ends, or so we thought... there were still a bunch of empty pages left in the journal, and I still kept flipping through them.

Then I arrived at the last page of this journal and....

"No one is allowed to tarnish my home.... tarnish what I have built.... NO ONE IS ALLOWED IN MY LEGACY"

The words "no one is allowed in my legacy" starts glowing and suddenly...

A long hand comes through the page and grabs my face, and pulls me inside the book. It was so fast that I couldn't react. My body kept sinking and sinking deeper into the journal, and Raven was going to reach out for me, but she was too startled that she just froze in fear.

Suddenly, another hand comes grabbing hold of Raven's neck and pulls her inside the journal as well.

"No!... NO...!! NOOOO-" Soon, those screams could no longer be heard and we could only await our fate inside the journal.
