Ethan (cutting him off) I won’t. Goodbye, Trevor.

Ethan hangs up, feeling lighter than he has in months. He walks back inside, where Lily is sitting by the fire, reading a book. She looks up when he enters.

Ethan: I told him no.

Lily smiles softly, as though she knew all along what he would choose.

Lily: I knew you would.

Ethan crosses the room and sits beside her, taking her hand.
