running away together

The air hung thick with whispers, heavy with disapproval, each glance a dagger, each word a poisoned arrow.

They saw us, two souls intertwined, a love so pure and true, but in their eyes, a storm of anger, a tempest of "no."

My father, a man of steel, his heart a fortress cold, his voice a thunderclap, his words a story told of family honor, of lineage and pride, a love like ours, he said, was a transgression, a tide that would drown our families, a storm that would destroy, a love forbidden, a forbidden joy.

Her mother, a woman of grace, her eyes filled with despair, a love like ours, she said, was a burden we couldn't bear, a path of thorns and pain, a future filled with strife, a love like ours, she said, would steal away our life.

We met in secret, beneath the moon's pale light, our love a beacon, burning bright, against the darkest night.

We whispered promises, carved our names in trees, our love a silent symphony, carried on the breeze.

But whispers turned to shouts, secrets spilled like wine, the walls of disapproval, they began to close in, confine.

Our families clashed, their anger a raging fire, our love, a fragile butterfly, caught in their cruel desire.

One night, beneath the stars, we made our choice, to run away, to escape their voices, to find our own voice.

We packed our meager belongings, our hearts filled with fear, but our love, a guiding star, shone ever so clear.

We stole away in the dead of night, our hands clasped tight, leaving behind the pain, the anger, the darkness of their might.

We drove through the night, the road stretching before us, a path to freedom, a path to a love that was precious.

The dawn broke, painting the sky with hues of gold, our hope, a fragile flame, in the cold wind we held.

But fate, it seemed, had other plans, a cruel twist of the hand, as we rounded a bend, our car skidded on the sand.

The world spun, a blur of colors, a symphony of pain, our love, a fragile thread, snapped in the driving rain.

We woke in a hospital bed, our bodies broken and sore, the dream of freedom shattered, our love forevermore.

She lay beside me, her eyes filled with a vacant stare, her hand, once so warm, now cold, a burden I couldn't bear.

The doctor spoke, his words a chilling decree, "She's gone," he said, "she's gone, she'll never be free."

My world crumbled, my heart shattered, my soul filled with despair, the love we fought for, the love we dared to share, was gone, vanished, a dream that could never come true, a love that died on the road, a love that was lost to you.

Now I sit here, alone, haunted by her ghost, My love, my life, forever lost, a love that cost The price of freedom, the price of our own desire, a love that burned too bright, a love that set our souls on fire.
