At the center of it all stood Elena Vargas, her red suit a sharp contrast to the sleek, glass surroundings.

She scanned the crowd, her gaze landing on Archer Stone, leaning casually against the long mahogany table. His tailored navy suit emphasized his powerful frame, and his expression was cold, almost bored. His reputation preceded him—Archer Stone, the man who turned failing companies into gold mines. And he had the audacity to think he could snatch the deal Elena had set her sights on.

“Ms. Vargas, lovely to see you here,” Archer’s deep voice cut through her thoughts, as he approached her with a smirk. His grey eyes, like a winter storm, met hers. “But I’m afraid you’ll be leaving disappointed.”

Elena’s lips curved into a smile that didn’t reach her eyes. “Confident, aren’t we, Mr. Stone? We’ll see who leaves disappointed.”

Archer’s eyes flashed with amusement, but he said nothing more, turning his attention to the auctioneer. As the bidding began, Elena’s focus sharpened, matching Archer’s with each aggressive bid. The numbers climbed higher, the stakes raising with every word exchanged. The tension between them became a spectacle for the room.

Archer’s final bid echoed like a challenge, and Elena’s heart pounded in her chest. She considered pushing further, but logic and restraint held her back. Gritting her teeth, she conceded the round, her gaze locked with Archer’s as a smug smile curled on his lips.

“Congratulations, Mr. Stone,” Elena bit out, her voice cool despite her frustration. “Enjoy it while you can.”

Archer leaned closer, his voice low enough that only she could hear. “I intend to, Ms. Vargas. And I look forward to seeing what you’ll try next.”

As he turned away, Elena watched him go, her mind already working on the next move. This wasn’t over—not by a long shot.
