Truth Revealed

It had been a month since their wedding, and life for Xiao Ning and Bing Rong had settled into a comfortable rhythm. They had spent their days working and their weekends together, relishing the peace and quiet that married life had brought them. For the first time, Xiao Ning felt a sense of stability, but a lingering tension remained in his heart. There was still one secret he had yet to reveal to Bing Rong—a truth that had weighed on him for years.

As they sat together in their cozy living room one evening, the soft glow of the fireplace casting flickering shadows on the walls, Xiao Ning knew it was time. He couldn't keep it from her any longer.

Bing Rong, resting her head against his shoulder, noticed his quiet demeanor. She looked up at him with a concerned expression. “You’ve been quiet tonight,” she said gently. “Is something bothering you?”

Xiao Ning hesitated for a moment, gathering his thoughts. He had prepared for this conversation, but now that it was time, the words felt heavy in his throat. He had always wanted to protect her from the truth, but he knew that their marriage couldn’t be built on secrets.

Taking a deep breath, he gently pulled away, turning to face her fully. “Bing Rong, there’s something I need to tell you,” he began, his voice steady but serious.

Her eyes searched his, sensing the gravity of his tone. “What is it?”

Xiao Ning clasped her hands in his, the warmth of her touch grounding him. “There’s a part of my life that I’ve kept hidden from you for a long time. It’s not because I didn’t trust you—I’ve always trusted you—but because I thought it was the only way to keep you safe.”

Bing Rong’s brow furrowed slightly in confusion, but she nodded, urging him to continue.

“You know I’m the owner of Ni Magic, and that I’ve been working hard to keep the company running smoothly. But there’s more to my life than just running the business,” he said, his gaze unwavering. “I also work for the Army Ministry Intelligence… as an assassin.”

Bing Rong’s eyes widened in shock, her mind racing to process his words. “What?” she breathed, barely able to comprehend. “You work for the Army? As an assassin?”

Xiao Ning nodded slowly, his heart pounding in his chest. “Yes. My code name is Night Owl. I’ve been working as an undercover assassin for years, carrying out missions that most people can’t even imagine. But because of a poison I was given as a child, my powers disappear during the day. That’s why I seem like a normal office worker to everyone else.”

He paused, watching her reaction carefully. “The reason I’ve been taking a break from the Army recently is because I was finally able to get the antidote for the poison. But the antidote has caused me to lose all my powers, and I need to train for years to get them back. That’s why I’ve been focusing on Ni Magic—for now, I can’t be Night Owl.”

Bing Rong sat in stunned silence, trying to make sense of everything. The man she had married—the man she thought she knew—had been living a double life all along. An assassin for the Army? The number one in his field? It was almost too much to take in.

But as the initial shock began to fade, Bing Rong realized something: Xiao Ning had carried this burden alone for so long, all to protect her. She could see the weight of the truth in his eyes, the way it had torn at him, and despite her surprise, she felt a surge of compassion for him.

“You’ve been living like this for so long,” she whispered, her voice soft. “Why didn’t you tell me sooner?”

Xiao Ning’s gaze softened. “Because I didn’t want to put you in danger. The less you knew, the safer you were. And I knew you would have tried to protect me… or stopped me. But I couldn’t let you get involved in the risks I was taking.”

Bing Rong took a deep breath, her mind slowly piecing everything together. She could see now why he had kept his distance at times, why he had always seemed to be hiding something. It wasn’t because he didn’t trust her—it was because he loved her enough to keep her safe.

But now that she knew the truth, things were different. She wasn’t just his wife—she was his partner, and she wasn’t going to let him carry this burden alone anymore.

“Xiao Ning,” she said firmly, her voice gaining strength. “I understand why you kept this from me. But I’m your wife now. You don’t have to protect me by keeping secrets anymore. We’re in this together, no matter what.”

Xiao Ning felt a rush of relief at her words, a weight lifting from his shoulders that he hadn’t realized was there. He had feared this moment for so long, worried that she would be angry, or worse, that she would leave him. But Bing Rong was as strong as ever, and she was standing by his side.

“Thank you,” he said quietly, his voice filled with gratitude. “I didn’t want to hide this from you any longer. I’ve been wanting to tell you for a while, but I didn’t know how you would react.”

Bing Rong gave him a small smile, though her eyes were still filled with concern. “It’s a lot to take in,” she admitted. “But I’m glad you told me. And as for the Army, if you need to take time to recover, then that’s what you should do. You’ve spent so long fighting—now it’s time for you to heal.”

Xiao Ning nodded, feeling a sense of peace wash over him. “I’ll still need to practice to regain my strength. But for now, I’m focusing on Ni Magic and spending more time with you. I’m taking a break from the Army until I’m fully recovered.”

Bing Rong squeezed his hand, her expression softening. “We’ll get through this together,” she said. “You don’t have to face it alone anymore.”

Xiao Ning smiled, a sense of warmth spreading through him. For the first time in his life, he felt like he could finally let go of the weight he had carried for so long. With Bing Rong by his side, he knew he wasn’t alone.

They sat in comfortable silence for a moment, the fire crackling softly in the background. Xiao Ning had revealed one of his deepest secrets, and instead of pulling them apart, it had brought them even closer.

“I love you,” he said, his voice quiet but firm.

Bing Rong smiled, leaning in to rest her head on his shoulder once again. “I love you too, Xiao Ning. No more secrets, okay?”

Xiao Ning chuckled softly, his heart light for the first time in years. “No more secrets.”
