In the midst of the morning, here I am plotting the farm with the children. It seems like they’re enjoying the activity—except for Jade. I notice that the chapel has a spacious area in the back for farming.
Mayene notices me and smiles a little bit.
“Fael, your haircut suits you,” she says, and the other children agree except for Steve.
Jade is minding his own business under a tree, reading a book. He glances our way for a brief moment before returning to his book.
“Huh, nothing changed about him. He’s still that beggar boy,” Steve says with a frown, beginning to plot the area faster.
Is he angry with me? The question runs through my mind.
“Don’t mind him. He’s just jealous because Sister Elizabeth hugged you last night,” Aqua chimes in.
“What do you say, Aqua?” Steve retorts, his face turning red with embarrassment.
Aqua just smiles at Steve, seemingly enjoying the teasing.
“I mean what I say, and you heard it! Ha ha!” Aqua laughs.
This makes Steve turn even redder, and he starts chasing Aqua, who quickly reacts and takes off running.
Lizzy and Mayene are left behind as the two chase each other around the chapel.
“I’m sorry for my younger brother’s behavior,” Mayene apologizes.
I notice that Mayene seems somehow more mature despite her appearance as a child. Perhaps there are circumstances that have made her more responsible.
“Don’t mind it,” I reply.
She just smiles and continues plotting the land.
I’m curious about why Mayene approached me and offered to help. It’s not like she does this for every beggar.
“Mayene, why did you approach me?” I ask her.
My question brings her to a stop as she looks at me with her brilliant yellow eyes.
“It’s because you’re a kid. I don’t mind helping you; you look pathetic out there,” she bluntly states.
Right, I am a kid. That was a stupid question, I think to myself.
“Also, kids don’t deserve to live in such harsh environments,” she adds, looking up at the sky with a hint of sadness.
We stay quiet for a moment before she breaks the silence.
“Okay, enough of that. Let’s get back to work,” she says, changing the subject.
I notice Lizzy is still focused on her job, diligently plotting the land—she’s really committed.
After several minutes, we manage to finish, but I realize Jade hasn’t helped at all. I feel a bit ashamed leaving this labor to the girls.
“Why isn’t Jade helping?” I ask Mayene to better understand his situation.
Mayene glances at Jade, who is still reading under the tree.
“Jade will join us later,” she says, handing me some seeds to plant.
I nod and accept the seeds. Along with Mayene and Lizzy, we plant the seeds, and after watering them, our work is complete.
“Jade, it’s your turn now!” Mayene calls, her voice slightly raised.
Jade notices and leaves his book under the tree, walking over to us. He stands at the front of the plot we created.
“What’s he doing?” I ask, intrigued.
“Doing some fertilization,” she replies casually.
Fertilization? Where’s the fertilizer? I don’t see him holding anything—what's going on?
After a few minutes, he raises both arms and begins to chant:
“The goodness of harvest heed my prayer,
the grace of your mercy, please bear on us.
Let our crops grow with integrity,
let the light shine upon your goodness... Growth!”
As he chants, I feel the atmosphere around him shift, and a faint yellow light swirls in the air, moving toward the plot where we planted the seeds. Suddenly, small leaves begin to emerge from the ground, followed by a sequence of sprouting leaves, then it stops.
I can’t help but shake with excitement. At last, my dream has become reality. A smirk forms on my face—I can’t hide it.
“Magic,” I whisper to myself.
“It’s Magium—the power to work miracles,” Lizzy says as she approaches my side.
I notice Jade looking at me for a moment before returning to his book.
It seems I’m starting to understand Jade. He’s a magic geek—an otaku, it appears. It look we able to understand each other..
