Chapter 1: A SHATTERED LIFE ( ・ั﹏・ั)
The rain lashed against the windowpane, mirroring the storm raging within Anya. She clutched the worn teddy bear her grandmother had given her, the only tangible connection she had left to her past. At fifteen, Anya had already endured more than most could fathom.
"Mom?" Anya whispered, her voice trembling as she stared at the faded wedding photograph. Her father, Dennis, smiled back, his eyes crinkled at the corners. She barely remembered him.
Her mother, Rachel, had been a fleeting presence in her life, vanishing when Anya was just seven. The memory of their last goodbye still stung.
"I'll be back soon, baby," Rachel had promised, her voice laced with tears. "Take care of yourself."
But Rachel never returned.
Anya's world crumbled further when she was fourteen. Betrayed by the man she had trusted most – her uncle.
"The things I do, Anya, are for your own good," he'd whispered, his breath hot against her skin.
The violation burned like a brand, a constant reminder of her vulnerability.
Seeking refuge with her aunt Esther, Anya found herself trapped in another abusive relationship. Esther's husband, Kevin, mirrored the darkness she had fled.
"You're just like your mother," Kevin sneered. "Useless."
Now, at the end of her first year of secondary school, Anya found herself on the run, a fugitive from the very people who should have protected her.
Life had become a desperate fight for survival.
As she huddled under a tattered blanket in an abandoned building, the rain drumming a mournful rhythm on the roof, Anya wondered if she'd ever find peace.
But then, a flicker of light pierced the darkness.
A woman, her face obscured by the rain, approached the abandoned building. Anya's heart pounded in her chest.
"Who's there?" Anya called out, her voice shaking.
The woman didn't respond.
Anya's grip on the teddy bear tightened.
Was this the end?
Or was it a glimmer of hope?
The woman stepped closer, her features slowly materializing through the rain-soaked veil.
Anya saw kindness in her eyes, a gentle smile.
"Hello, child," the woman whispered. "You're safe now."
For the first time in years, Anya felt a spark of hope.
Maybe, just maybe, she'd found a reason to keep fighting.
"Who are you?" Anya asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I'm someone who cares," the woman replied, her voice soft. "My name is Sophia."
Sophia's eyes locked onto Anya's, filled with compassion.
"You don't have to run anymore," Sophia said, her voice firm. "I'll help you."
Tears streamed down Anya's face as Sophia wrapped her in a warm embrace.
For the first time in years, Anya felt safe.
