Romina looked at Marcelo, who had a serious expression, with a playful smile, determined to tease him. Her mouth slowly approached his and gave him a soft, quick kiss, barely touching him, like the touch of a butterfly.
That simple gesture made Marcelo start breathing heavily, and his eyes filled with desire.
He didn't know what had provoked this behavior in Romina today, but what he did know was that her action had reignited him inside.
Instinctively, his hand wrapped around Romina's waist, while with the other he took her head, deepening that kiss.
Marcelo kissed her passionately.
For her part, Romina only responded awkwardly until she couldn't breathe anymore and, panting, begged for mercy. Only then did Marcelo stop, though with obvious reluctance.
Comfortably nestled in Marcelo's arms, Romina felt her lips were swollen.
She looked up, her wet eyes looking at Marcelo: "Marcelo, can you trust me one more time?"
"I know I've changed very quickly, and it's normal that you don't trust me."
"But, even so, I want to tell you that I hope you can believe in me one more time. Give me a chance, and give yourself one too, can you?"
"Okay."
With a single sentence, Marcelo relived that thought a thousand times in his mind.
He feared it was all a trap, that she wanted to find a new way to get away from him.
But, no matter how many fears he had, he couldn't resist her words.
He couldn't lose her. After so long together, not even she had been the one to throw herself into his arms.
At first, she wouldn't even let him hold her hand. When he tried, she washed her hands with such intensity that she seemed to want to remove a layer of skin.
Over time, Marcelo stopped trying to touch her. He was afraid of hurting her and was content just to look at her.
That's why, this time, for him, it was a dilemma with only one answer.
In his heart there was no other option.
Only to love her.
He could only trust her.
"Great!" Romina jumped off Marcelo's lap upon hearing his answer, a warm sensation running through her heart.
Seeing the expression of loss on Marcelo at the sudden absence of her warmth, Romina smiled and, in an unexpected gesture, raised a spoon with soup, trying to feed him.
"Stop, witch!"
The sudden voice startled Romina, causing all the soup on the spoon to spill.
"Did you burn yourself?" Marcelo, worried, quickly took Romina's hand, checking it in all directions.
"I'm fine, the soup isn't hot anymore." Seeing that Marcelo was still as attentive as always, Romina felt her heart melt.
While both were in their own world, Leonardo came running towards them with some documents in his hand.
Finally, Romina and Marcelo realized the presence of Marcelo's personal assistant, Leonardo.
Leonardo, upon entering, saw the "witch" feeding Marcelo something he couldn't identify, but he was sure it had poison.
"Damn witch! You dare to poison him? You are ruthless!"
"No wonder Marcelo didn't go to the meeting and left early! I knew it was you, witch, plotting something!"
Romina, hearing Leonardo keep calling her "witch," threw her spoon down hard, and her eyes filled with tears.
Frustrated, she pointed at Leonardo and, with a pout, looked at Marcelo: "Who is he calling a witch?"
"Who else?"
Before Leonardo could answer, Marcelo's cold voice echoed in the room.
"The project abroad needs someone in charge, Leonardo. It seems you're too unoccupied!"
"No, I'm not." Leonardo closed his mouth instantly and began pointing at the documents, showing how busy he was.
Seeing Marcelo come to her defense, Romina stuck out her tongue and made a mocking face at Leonardo from behind Marcelo, feeling victorious.
Although Romina knew that Leonardo was loyal to Marcelo, she had caused so many problems in the past that not only had Marcelo lost confidence in her, but also the people close to him.
"Romi, go rest. I still have work to do."
"Go to work peacefully, don't worry about me." Romina responded quickly, knowing that he was busy.
"Good." Marcelo gently caressed her face and then headed to the office on the second floor with Leonardo.
Romina, feeling bored alone, returned to her room.
The servants, seeing the mess in the kitchen, only hoped that the young lady wouldn't try to cook again.
In the bedroom on the second floor.
"Ding!"
Romina had just arrived in her room when her cell phone rang. Seeing the message, she realized it was from Sofia.
"Sister, how have you been these days? Have you tried what I taught you? Has Marcelo told you yet when you're getting divorced?"
Divorce? There will be no more divorce with Marcelo!
Without thinking, Romina blocked and deleted Sofia.
Now, the most important thing was Marcelo. She only wanted to reconcile with him. Revenge could wait.
Recovering from the disgust, Romina took a relaxing shower.
Upon entering the dressing room to find clothes, she realized that she didn't have anything suitable to wear. What had she been wearing before?
The entire closet was somber, full of black clothes without any kind of adornments, nothing that fit her style.
Looking at herself in the mirror, she saw her excessive, almost vulgar, makeup, and felt like vomiting.
She couldn't understand how Marcelo had continued to love her seeing her like this. She could only say that love had blinded him.
Knowing that all those clothes had been Sofia's idea, Romina's anger increased, and she decided that the next day she would throw all those clothes away along with the closet.
As for the makeup, she could take that off right now. If Marcelo really liked that style, it wouldn't cost her anything to continue wearing makeup like that.
Determined, and without finding suitable clothes, Romina wrapped herself in a towel and sneaked to Marcelo's bedroom.
After rummaging around a bit, she found a white shirt, put it on, and looked at herself in the mirror, finally satisfied. Now she did look like a Romina in her twenties.
It was already past ten, and Marcelo hadn't left the office.
Romina crept up to the study door and pressed her ear to it, trying to hear what was happening inside.
Everything was quiet, only the occasional turning of pages and Marcelo's short answers were heard, sometimes affirmative, sometimes negative.
Not wanting to interrupt him, Romina returned to her room, but while waiting, she fell asleep without realizing it.
In her dreams, she relived the events of her past life. She saw Marcelo die in the fire to save her, and she couldn't stop crying.
Meanwhile, in the study, Marcelo finished his work and headed silently to Romina's room.
Because Romina had not allowed Marcelo to enter her room before, he always waited for her to fall asleep to take a look at her.
Upon arriving at the door, he noticed that it was not completely closed. Peeking in, he saw that in the huge bed, a small body was shrinking while sobbing.
"Romi, what's wrong? Did you have a nightmare?"
