The Farewell

The cool morning breeze brushed through the clearing, carrying the scent of dew-covered grass and distant mountains. Ravihiro and Haruno stood face to face, the air between them heavy with unspoken words. Haruno took the jade in her hands, feeling the power radiating from it. She could sense how much effort Ravihiro had put into crafting it, and it warmed her heart. She slipped the pendant around her neck, but Ravihiro’s expression turned serious.

“Haruno,” he said, his voice lowering with intensity, “you must only break this jade in a life-or-death situation. No matter what happens, do not reveal your true identity as a beast to humans. There are those who will seek to hunt you, to capture you. They won’t care about who you are or what you’ve achieved—they’ll only see you as a prize.”

Haruno’s heart clenched at his words. She knew Ravihiro wasn’t being overprotective—he was right. The world outside the forest was full of unknown dangers, especially for someone like her. She nodded firmly, her resolve strengthened.

“I understand,” she said. “I won’t let anyone know.”

Ravihiro studied her face for a moment longer, then sighed, the weight of his responsibility lightening slightly. “Good. You’ve grown strong, Haruno. Stronger than I could’ve imagined. But remember—strength alone won’t protect you. Stay smart. Stay hidden when you need to. And if you ever find yourself in a situation you can’t escape from—break the jade.”

Haruno touched the pendant around her neck, feeling its warmth. “I’ll remember, brother. I won’t use it unless there’s no other choice.”

They stood there in silence for a few moments longer, the reality of their parting sinking in. Haruno had always looked up to Ravihiro as both a mentor and a brother, and leaving him behind felt strange, even if she knew it was time.

Ravihiro’s eyes softened. “You’ll always have a place here. This will always be your home.”

Haruno smiled. “I’ll come back someday. And when I do, I’ll be stronger.”

With those final words, she turned and began walking into the forest. The trees slowly swallowed her figure, the jade pendant gleaming faintly against the morning sun. Ravihiro watched her go, his heart heavy but filled with pride. He had given her everything she needed to survive, but the rest was up to her.

As the silence of the forest returned, Ravihiro stood alone, his mind filled with both hope and concern. He knew the dangers that lay ahead for her, and though he trusted her strength, the world was unpredictable.

The spirit inside Ravihiro’s ring stirred. “Do you think she’ll be safe?” it asked, its voice a gentle whisper in his mind.

Ravihiro closed his eyes, exhaling deeply. “She’s stronger than she realizes. But the world out there... it’s cruel. She’ll have to learn that on her own.”

The spirit was silent for a moment before responding. “You’ve done everything you could. She’ll make it.”

Ravihiro nodded, though his heart was still conflicted. “I hope so. But if she’s ever in danger, I’ll know. And if she breaks that jade… I’ll come for her.”

With those words, Ravihiro turned back to the clearing, already thinking of his next steps. There was still much he had to do, much he had to prepare for. Haruno was out in the world now, but Ravihiro would continue watching over her, even from afar.
