Author's POV:
Ni Ying had a strange feeling as she walked home from school. She wasn’t sure why, but she couldn’t wait to check her phone and talk to Zeipher. It didn’t make sense to her; she never used to feel this excited about talking to anyone, especially after what happened with her ex. But there was something about Zeipher that made her heart race in a way she wasn’t used to.
After changing into comfortable clothes, she grabbed her phone and opened Instagram. Her inbox had a message from Zeipher, and just seeing his name brought an unexpected smile to her face. She quickly opened the chat and started typing a reply.
Zeipher’s POV:
"Really? You had time to scroll through Instagram before school, but you couldn’t even text me?" I typed, feeling a little annoyed. I knew I sounded demanding, but it was frustrating. She’d been online, and yet, she hadn’t thought of me enough to send even a simple message.
Ying apologized, "I’m sorry! I was just in a hurry this morning."
I didn’t want to push it, but I couldn’t help myself. "You know, if you had time to check Instagram, you had time to send me a quick message. It's not like I’m asking for much."
There was a pause before her reply came in. "You're right. I’ll make sure to text you next time."
Ni Ying’s POV:
His words made me feel a little guilty. Maybe he was right. But at the same time, I didn’t understand why it mattered so much to him. I never thought I’d have this kind of conversation with anyone other than my ex. I didn’t know why I cared so much about keeping Zeipher happy, but somehow, I wanted to make things right.
We kept talking after that, and it felt natural. I could tell he was trying to be closer to me, and I wasn’t sure how I felt about that. Part of me liked the attention, but the other part of me was scared. My past taught me that guys always had hidden intentions. They always ended up hurting you.
Author's POV:
Ni Ying had never thought she’d enjoy talking to a guy again, especially someone like Zeipher. She wasn’t even sure why she was doing this. She knew his type—he had told her straight up that he was a playboy, someone who had been hurt before and didn’t believe in love anymore. To him, all girls were the same, just as Ni Ying believed all guys only cared about one thing.
Still, there was something in their conversation that felt real. Zeipher wasn’t trying too hard; he was just being himself, even if that meant showing his flaws. And that’s what scared her. She knew she shouldn’t trust him, but she couldn’t help feeling like she wanted to.
Zeipher’s POV:
The more I talked to her, the more I felt something different. Ying wasn’t like the other girls I knew. She wasn’t playing games, and she wasn’t trying to impress me. It was like she didn’t care what I thought of her. And that just made me more curious.
But I wasn’t stupid. I’d been burned before. Every girl ends up showing her true colors eventually. I didn’t believe in real love anymore. How could I? After what happened with my first love, I’d stopped trusting anyone. Girls cheat, lie, and leave you broken. Ying would be no different.
But that wasn’t the only reason I kept talking to her. Part of me wanted to use her, like I had with other girls before. It was easy to get them to trust me, to feel something. Once they were attached, I didn’t have to stay. Maybe that’s what I was doing with Ying too. But why did I feel like she was different?
Ni Ying’s POV:
I wasn’t sure why I kept talking to Zeipher either. My mind was constantly telling me, “He’s just like the others. He’ll use you and leave you.” But my heart wasn’t listening. I felt like I was on the edge of something new, something I wasn’t ready for. Every time I talked to him, it felt like I was letting my guard down just a little more, and that terrified me.
I didn’t want to fall for him. I didn’t want to fall for anyone.
Author’s POV:
The night ended with both of them still talking, still trying to understand the strange connection they felt with each other. Ni Ying knew she couldn’t fully trust Zeipher, but part of her wanted to. Zeipher, on the other hand, was starting to wonder if maybe he was wrong about her.
But both of them were hiding their true feelings. Zeipher couldn’t forget the pain from his past, and Ying couldn’t shake the belief that all guys were the same. He thought she was just another girl, someone he could use to prove that love didn’t exist. But what if he was wrong?
As they said goodnight, neither of them knew what would happen next. But one thing was clear—they were both stepping into something neither of them could predict.
The mystery remains: Is Zeipher truly just trying to use Ying, or is he beginning to care for her? And will Ying ever let herself trust him, or is she about to face another heartbreak?
